I tried this place for the first time and it didn't disappoint! The first thing that gave me a solid impression of them was that I called twice to try to place a takeout order and it went to voicemail both times, so I decided to try to place an online order. While I was placing an online order, they actually called me back? Have you ever had a restaurant call you back? The man on the phone was very personable. I got drunken noodles with tofu which is my go-to dish at Thai restaurants and priced comparably to other places at $17 including tax. When I came to pick up my order, I believe the same older gentleman who answered the phone rang me up (his name is BJ) and asked if I liked spicy and wanted extra spice. I thought it would be a little packet but he actually told me to wait so he can go get it and he put some of their spice powder/seasoning(?) in a little container for me which was so sweet of him! He also threw in a free Thai tea for no reason at all! The drunken noodles were delicious because the sauce was perfect for me, it was not too salty and not bland, which I have had before at some other places. I got my dish mild, and unlike so many other restaurants who interpret "mild" as "0 spice" which makes it confusing for anyone who wants a kick but not burn their mouth, this was ACTUALLY mild spice! You could tell there was very slight hint of a kick later on that is not really noticeable initially! The noodles, tofu, and veggies ratio was perfect. Thai tea is normally very sweet anywhere you go, and is normally too sweet for me, but this was a tolerable sweet level and I enjoyed it as well!I love supporting friendly small businesses and with the delicious food and reasonable prices, I'm so happy I found it and I definitely plan to come back!

This is my favorite place to eat in Durham. My personal favorite item (so far) is the chicken noodle bowl.Great portions, if you leave hungry, it's your own fault. It's very clean. The owner is so friendly. They moved about a year ago which threw us off since their old sign is still up at the old location and we drove an hour and a half for lunch; luckily gps brought us to the new location. The chicken noodle bowl appears on the lunch menu and we arrived after lunch but the owner was willing to serve us a dinner portion, which was huge compared to the lunch portion which was already huge.

I do not have enough words on how incredible Thai 55 is! Recommended by an incredible friend, we came here together and you can tell how great the people are the moment you walked in. The absolute kindest and most intentional people work here, they really make the entire experience elevate to another level. HUGE shoutout to Tommy- he is so warm and welcoming, also very fun and funny! He greets everyone with a smile and warmth, truly incredible. The inside is also very cute, spacious, and very clean. The menu is filled with incredible dishes, I found it hard to narrow what I wanted down cause everything looks so good. I found myself thinking of wanting to come here every week so I could have a little bit of everything. I'm also a huge fan of eggplant, Tommy recommended I get the lunch special (which usually range between $10-$13 per plate, huge portions and comes with rice- incredible deal). Worry not about the spice levels- you can choose! You MUST get their Thai tea! I'm a fan of it coming in a mason jar with a handle, looks very pretty (aesthetic, you can mix the cream into the tea- sadly my photo is too blurry to do it Justice). Super delicious! For dessert- you have to get the mango sticky rice. A top tier dessert, not too sweet, tastes really creamy and refreshing. Always a beautiful balance of flavors. Be sure to come here to check them out! 10/10 would recommend :)

Always good, always fast, usually not overcrowded makes this a go-to spot for me. There are a lot of takeout/delivery orders but I've never seen more than 20 people in the dining room. Service is always friendly and prompt.

Ambiance : they did their best to take a small place to look and feel like an Asian atmosphere. The food was good, not distinguishably great. They do a good lunch business. I enjoyed my food ; price was fair, meaning not too pricey. Wait staff polite. If I lived or worked nearby I'd go more often but It's not a favorite so I don't go out of my way.

Excellently consistent delicious real Thai food. Try anything on the menu but my favorites are BBq chicken, salmon noodle bowl, and drunken noodles. I've been going to the red for years and have never been disappointed.

We had a delicious dinner at Thai 55. The owner welcomed us into his restaurant and seemed to remember us from last year. We ordered a new dish of barbecue pork with tamarind dipping sauce and sticky rice. So yummy! Then we ordered the duck in a red curry sauce which was also delicious but spicy. The last dish was pad Thai with shrimp. It was so good, really!!! We were much too full for dessert. And the corner came over with the bill and we talked for a while. He made us feel like family. What a wonderful evening. Thank you!

The food was below average, and the customer service was rude. I ordered takeout and specifically requested that my order be well done. Instead of accommodating my request, the owner went on a rant about how all their food is well done and that they don't serve raw meat. When I arrived at the restaurant 40 minutes later, I was informed by the owner that they didn't have half of my order - the very dish he had been ranting about. He then tried to upsell me on more expensive dishes, pressuring me to choose something else from the menu.I witnessed the same tactic being used on a young woman a month ago. It's shocking that a restaurant would wait until the customer arrives to inform them that a significant portion of their order is unavailable. This behavior demonstrates a lack of honesty and integrity, and it seems driven by greed. Most restaurants would notify you immediately if an item is unavailable, giving you the chance to cancel or adjust your order. However, this owner waits until you arrive, pressuring you to choose something else on the spot. If I had been informed earlier, I would have ordered from another Thai restaurant that could fulfill my order. This approach shows a complete disregard for the customer's time and money. After experiencing this myself, I will never order from or patronize Thai 55 again. These tactics are dishonest and greedy, and I cannot support a business that operates this way.
