If it wasn't for someone sticking the restaurant's business card on my windshield; I would have never know that this place existed, and after googling the address, learned that it's practically walking distance from my house...but it's hot so I'll drive the 0.2 miles. There's not any big sign on the business for an easy spot. You just have to be on the lookout for a Jamaican flag in the window and remember that it's next to a Haitian restaurant. There's also limited parking.Located along Pembroke Rd.; Taste of Portland is a small Jamaican restaurant with a few table seating for customers that offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner at reasonable prices. You can also get lunch specials during the week from 11am-3pm for $4.99, soups, sides, and cold beverages. The restaurant sells various snacks and products native to Jamaica as well. I was greeted by a pleasant female who took my order of the brown stew chicken lunch special. It came with rice & peas, steamed vegetables, plantain, and surprisingly a can soda of my choice. The food looked and smelled delightful. Now for the taste... The chicken was tender and browned nicely with a mild flavor. The rice & peas was cooked to a soft consistency. The steamed vegetables was soft and a bit of crunchy. My only problem was the food had one plantain which was sweet. Come on now, why be stingy with the plantain? They could have at least added 2 or 3 nice pieces. Overall the food was enjoyable. Reminds me of my grandma's cooking back in the islands. Look forward to return to try other dishes.

The oxtails for one , was $20 for a large and $18 for a small , which didn't make sense to me. But anyway. The meat did fall off the bone , however they gave me about 5-6 pieces mostly small ones. The taste was very strong . ( too much of a certain spice)The rice was hard and cold. The cabbage was hard as well. Also there was long stems as if the cabbage wasn't chopped up. Overall I was disappointed. First and last visit .

Me and my friend tried this place for the first time. The food was watered down and so so. I ordered curry goat ( the worst curry goat I've experienced so far) and she ordered Oxtail ( the oxtails looked like oxtail soup). Everything was just bland in taste. They will never see me again. I am Jamaican and this place ain't it.

I am very grateful that I found and discovered a great Jamaican restaurant in Hollywood, Florida called "TASTE OF PORTLAND" that made a splendid jerk chicken meal. The taste was very rich with bold flavors. It was so delicious that I ordered a second large meal to go home with. The decor of the restaurant is welcoming and spacious. It took less than five to ten minutes for my order to be taken from the cash register and to be prepared in the kitchen. I will definitely come back to support this restaurant with my hard earned money. P.S. The chef named Mr. Brown is a top notch person to be recognized for his cooking skills.Sincerely,Glen Gonzalez

All around excellent food. I had the jerk chicken and the oxtail. Both melted off the bone. They have some authentic Jamaican choices of drinks as well. Daily special to switch it up if you want. Definitely check this place out.

Doesn't look like much when you pull up. We were a little taken aback. But we took a chance and went in. Boy were we thrilled. The food is outstanding. My family is Jamaican and this is the real deal delicious delicious delicious! Go on in Takeaway or stop by for a quick bite with not a huge crowd.
