I've been to Tarbell's three times recently. The first one was outstanding. The last two were horrendous! The service was good the first of the last two times, but the very last time it took over an hour to get our food. I ordered their special 10oz steak burger, which initially (from the first visit, was uneditable; I would go as far as disgusting! The only decent thing from that meal was the bread and herb olive oil. I was offered another choice from the menu, but everyone was finished eating, and frankly I had zero expectation that anything else from their menu would be palatable. That said, the same can't be said of their next door less formal restaurant, The Tavern. The Tavern has been fairly consistent and delicious. As for their namesake, Tarbell's, I wouldn't go back if I was paid. This is based on the food first and the service second. It gives me NO PLEASURE to write this review. Tarbell's is very close to us, which made it a go to option. Not any more. Give Tarbell's The Tavern a try. That's my best advice for people looking to try it out. I don't like leaving bad reviews. It makes be uncomfortable. However, I feel it's my responsibility to share these experiences. Please Tarbell's, get your act together! Thank you.

Absolutely delicious food and great service in a elegant/modern dining setting!I recently had dinner here with some colleagues. This location was recommended to us, by a few folks that live in the area or visit frequently. I 100% know why.Staff greeted us as we walked in the door, with big smiles and a gentle hello. It was like visiting a friends house. They verified our reservation (which I highly recommend) and took us to our table. As we walked to the table the other staff members also greeted us with "Hellos" and smiles as we walked by. So incredibly friendly and welcoming. We were brought fresh glasses of water menus within seconds of sitting down and our drink orders were taken. While we waited for our drinks we were brought delicious bread. We enjoyed the bread while perusing the menu. The menu is not pages and pages, in fact it is well thought out and curated to over special meals that all read like a chef special. I can speak for our table that all were wowed by their meals.I ended up with the 4 day bolognese which was absolutely incredible. and I was "sold" on the add on of a 10oz meatball. It did not disappoint. the pasta was perfectly al dente and the sauce was flavorful, not greasy, it was thick and stuck to the pasta. SOOOO GOOD!! The meatball was incredible. Tender flavorful and hearty. I couldn't finish my food, it was just so much, I wish I lived locally as I would have taken it home for next day leftovers. The service was so very attentive and offered suggestions for drink and food to my colleagues. Great recommendations that went over well and didn't seem forced. The chef came by to check on us. and The owner came by to check on us and chat for a bit. He was very engaged and walked to each table. Such a friendly atmosphere.I 1000% recommend this restaurant. There is something for everyone on the menu.

Easy to make reservations here, beautiful atmosphere and attentive service was perfect. I had the carpaccio and it is the perfect appetizer. Very thin cuts with arugula and Parmesan. The salmon was perfectly done. Cheesecake for desert cause it's my birthday!

Salad was good and the drinks were good, but my meal was way too salty. I had the salmon and I felt like there was a salt block on top of it and I love salt so if that doesn't tell you how much salt was on it. Service was great, and I love the ambience as well.

We came in for drinks and a snack. We ordered the clarified tea cocktail and it was so tasty! Perfect way to end the evening. We also ordered the chipotle sweet potato soup and it was tasty but a little on the salty side. The service was amazing! Everyone we interacted with was so kind and attentive. Ambiance was cozy yet sophisticated. I love it here and will be back!

Mark's restaurant is a must if you are In Phoenix! Every single item we had off the menu was absolutely delicious and the service was unmatched! We enjoyed several appetizers including the caviar, escargot, and the duck. Several of us ordered the seafood stew. It was the most delicious dinner I had during my time in AZ and the setting was beautiful with art work and the perfect lighting and table setting. The Tavern and wine shops next door, also owned by the chef, Mark, looked great too. On my way back home today, unbeknownst to me, I enjoyed Mark's Tavern restaurant at the Phoenix airport in terminal 4. It was the perfect breakfast before boarding my flight home. I will definitely return to Mark's restaurants on my travels back to Arizona.

Nice ambiance. Friendly but somewhat inept service. Mixed reviews on food and drink. At servers' recommendation went with Caducius Orange Malvasia. Wine came to table minutes before Ceasar salad in a half full ice bucket. We were told it would need to be on ice for a while before ready to drink. Caesar salad was good but would have liked black pepper but server never returned until after we'd gone ahead and eaten after waiting about 5 minutes. They also brought us a complimentary rock shrimp appetizer that was delicious.Server did return as finishing salad and poured wine. Even after having been on ice for about 10 minutes this white wine was still above room temperature. Server took away and filled ice bucket to top. Shortly after our "Chilean Sea Bass" arrived server came back to repour wine and temp was just getting slightly cool. Wine was flat and tasted off, but we went ahead and accepted. Upon looking at bottle later discovered they had served us a 2016 bottle, while the latest release is a 2022. This 8 yr. bottle of white wine obviously stored at high temps should never have been served. Regarding the "Chilean Sea Bass" was surprised by the strong fish smell. Haven't had that happen before. Fish was cooked well but didn't have the buttery quality we're used to. Wonder if this might have been Sea Bass instead of Chilean Sea Bass. Accompanying tomato sauce and vegies were delicious. Also brought us a complimentary Happy Birthday cheesecake for my wife. It was delicious. Shared these issues (except the wine vintage which we noted later) with the Maitre de when he asked how everything went. He was very receptive, professional and friendly. Even with the low rating we gave, based on the friendliness of Maitre de and server, we're still open to trying again and hoping for a better overall experience next time.
