I hadn't come here in a while. Tampico's right off 45 S. feeder road. Big signage out front, so you can't miss it. You wouldn't think so by looking from the freeway, its pretty big. They even have a separate area that can be reserved for private events. My recent visit was a random, mid day drop in with my bestie. We grabbed seats at the bar & chilled there. They had a really good special on margaritas that day. Think $4.99 for the large. The chips & salsa were pretty good. I ordered a couple of fish tacos & my friend had fajita tacos. Neither of us had complaints. Service was fine. Was a bit slow, but not horrid. Think the waitress was working the bar & the main dining area. Midway through our snacks, the bartender came on to her shift & it picked up. The menu had some pretty tasty sounding items & I think they've adjusted some of the pricing to be more reasonable. If I remember correctly, I didn't come here much because they were a bit overpriced. Definitely worth giving a try.

They have Mexican Coke! Wait, let me rephrase that...they have Mexican Coca-Cola!I must say that they have great atmosphere for a bar and restaurant combo. You are started off with chips and warm salsa. This common snack was surprisingly decent. Something about the warmth of the salsa combined with the slight heat from the spice level worked really well. The chips were really fresh and crunchy. I read that they charge you a small fee after your second order of chips and salsa, so that lets you know something about the desirability factor of their chips and salsa. I decided to order the "Tampico Botana" as my appetizer. That is 4 jumbo shrimps, chicken quesadilla, flautas, avocado slices and sour cream. They garnish the plate with jalapeños. First of all, those are not jumbo shrimp...they are butterflied shrimp. Overall, the flavor is good with all items. There is nothing outstanding about this appetizer; it is just a good appetizer. For my entree I ordered the number 42 with the upgrade of special fried rice. The number 42 is a 8oz stuffed snapper fillet stuffed with their homemade crab stuffing and topped with cheese. You have option to do salmon the same way. The special fried rice is fried rice with shrimp, pork and chicken in the mixture. The snapper was decent but slightly overcooked and rubbery at parts. The crab stuffing was not much, I prefer my stuffing to really be stuffed in there, and like everything else, just decent. The rice was good, but once again, no real wow factor. The included lime really made extra flavors pop when squeezed over the dish. I have to mention that the bar and restaurant area are both smoke free which makes the dining experience way better for a non-smoker such as myself. No WiFi, so come here to dine and be reality based sociable. This is a decent place with price to portion size slightly out of whack, and just slightly better than average Mexican food. I can't see me paying $10 for exactly 8 nacho chips with toppings. That isn't nachos to me! There is pleasant cultural music playing in the background that does not blare over the many televisions that are in the place. If you are underneath one of the many televisions that are around the place, you can actually hear what is being said on the boob tube. If decent Mexican food at slightly high prices is your thing, then this place is for you.NOTE: If you stay at the Quality Inn & Suites, which is a 3 minute walk away from them, you get 10% off your bill.

My wife, her friend and I went because it was close to where we were staying. Truth be told I wasn't expecting much but boy was I wrong. The food is good, portions are plentiful and I didn't take out a loan on my house to eat here. Next time I in Houston I will definitely eat here again.

This reason to come here is their snapper a la plancha.Quite simply, this is one of the top dishes in Houston. The fish, served whole on a cast iron skillet, it lovingly grilled and served with a shrimp. We added a lobster tail.I prefer it to the famous and more expensive stone crab in the Galleria area.Sadly, the margaritas were below average. Easily to solve for that with a cerveza.Definitely dunk your fish in their garlic butter. It's wicked good.

Came for lunch with the boyfriend! Their Airline location was closed. We were craving the whole fish dish, so we drove to the North Freeway location! Got the grilled Whole fish with shrimp which was AMAZING! Best dish on the menu! Worth every bite and the wait for it to come out! I enjoy the verde y jalapeño salsa with it! Also got guacamole and tostones which was absolutely amazing especially waiting for the main course! Will be back! I love this dish and place! Our spot!

Food and service was excellent, we had fajitas for two, quesadillas and a couple of other dishes. Drinks were on par in comparison to other restaurants. To get 5 stars something ha to standout nothings did, it's on par with other family restaurants of this caliber.
