This place lives up to the hype for sure! I've been over 10 times since I loved to the area and they never miss with not just the food but the service as well! One thing that definitely stood out is their variety of sauces! Try the spiciest one if you dare! It's awesome seeing thriving family businesses

Why 5 stars? Because the birria tacos were about as good as it gets. --- --- ---There was once a food truck that is now defunct that had the best birria tacos I've ever had. I recently wrote about another truck that was probably just one tier down from that spot, and I think Tacos Dona Lena is in that similar vein. Very good, but not the best ever.I've had this place bookmarked for probably two years and finally had the opportunity to visit. I wanted to try about 10 different things, but figured I would just go with typical quesabirria. I also ordered a side of rice and beans and really enjoyed those, as the beans had a great smokey flavor. I washed it all down with some decent mango drink. Did all of this collectively give me some pretty epic indigestion later that night? Yep. But that's the price you pay for tastiness.

Being in the top 100 and somewhat close to home, I had to check this place out with the family. In short, everything was phenomenal! Before our food came, the manager (I think? Maybe owner?) came by our table, asked if it was our first time there, how did we hear about them, gave us some background and just showed a genuine love of the restaurant, their food, and service.Right before the food came, another lady stopped by with their six salsas and went through them from mildest to hottest. We tried them before the food came out because we're weird like that and our favorites were the second green salsa, the red salsa, and the habanero. Here's what we tried:Birria quesadilla: Out of everything, this was my husband and son's favorite. You can dip it in the consommé or not, but they absolutely loved it.Birria torta: Also very good, the quesadilla was just a bit better. My husband mentioned that avocado slices could have made it epic.Enchilada with chicken: I thought this whole meal was so good. Everything went together nicely and the different salsas all worked.Horchata: Honestly, my husband and I initially did not enjoy the horchata. It was a little less creamy than we are used to. However, when drinking it with the food, the flavor complimented the food perfectly and it tasted great. This restaurant has such a unique vibe and flavor- what a gem for HTown!

After not one, but two absolutely delightful visits to Tacos Don Lena, it's clear to see why this spot is hailed as one of the best birria taco places in the entire US. The birria tacos here are nothing short of AMAZING. Every bite is a perfect blend of juicy, tender meat, richly flavored sauce, and perfectly crispy tortillas, creating a taste sensation that's hard to find anywhere else. What makes the experience even more special is the staff. They're incredibly helpful, ensuring that your dining experience is as enjoyable as possible. Their recommendations are spot-on, and they serve everything with a smile. And let's not forget the cokes in glass bottles - it's those little touches that make the whole experience feel authentic and just downright enjoyable. The birria tacos themselves are a masterpiece of flavor. The meat is slow-cooked to perfection, meltingly tender and infused with a blend of spices that's bold but not overwhelming. Paired with the crunch of the tortilla and the freshness of the accompanying lime and cilantro, it's a taco experience that's hard to beat.Tacos Don Lena doesn't just serve food; they serve an experience that stays with you long after you've finished eating. For anyone looking for the ultimate birria taco experience, this is the place to be. It's a well-deserved five stars from me, and I can't wait to go back for more.

This was my first time trying this place based on yelp reviews and it didn't disappoint! We ordered the chilaquiles verde, and the quesabirria tacos, Everything was delicious but the item that beat everything was the chilaquiles taco! The service was fast and friendly and everyone here was so helpful. When you enter the ambiance makes you feel like you're back in a cantina in mexico which is awesome. If you are looking for the best atmosphere friendly service and delicious tacos this is the place!

Absolutely phenomenal spot. Service and vibe is great. Food is super good. They have a lot of options and I definitely want to come back. I recommend this place even if it's a 30 minute drive. The birria is delicious. And so are all the sauces.

This place was a revelation. Delicious delicious delicious. Crowded and packed as well. The secret is out. Wemt around 11 and there was alreadyime. Decent swatijg inside and out but there's a few tables inside where you are gonna be surrounded by people in line. Once we ordered it didn't take too long to get the food. The staff is so amazing and attentive. All the food was delicious. Fajitas, quesadillas, birria tacos. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Seems everyone around us did too. Do yourself a favor and drop in Houston!

Wow, I've been searching for a place like Tacos Dona Lena and I'm so glad I finally found it! It makes sense why it's recognized as a Top 100 restaurant for Yelp nationwide. We came on a Saturday for lunch. It got packed at noon - so I'd definitely recommend coming a bit earlier or later to avoid a line. You order at the counter and then find a seat. Seems like they're known for the birria, which my wife ordered. I got the chilaquiles - they recommended the red salsa since I wanted something spicier. I was able to get soy pastor instead of chicken/beef. And added 2 eggs. It was great to see that there are options for vegetarians and vegans - they have soy pastor, nopales, and calabacitas as vegetarian options.Once seated, they bring out 6 of their salsas, which are all very flavorful and pack some heat! The food was delicious. So flavorful and fresh. Prices are reasonable. We'll definitely be back again for more!

We just finished eating here and we give it a 10 out of 5. We are birria people and neither of us come from a culture that embraces and employs such a phenomenal culinary experience in a singular dish. You get to enjoy an authentic Mexican ambiance, decorations, music and all. The service, phenomenal. No matter where we go, birria is food made with love. Try their salsas regardless of your heat tolerance. Drink the consume to the last drop. If you do neither of these things, you're doing the food, the establishment, and the family who puts their soul into the dishes an absolute disservice. We were asked when we'd be back in town and to that we do not know, but what we do know is that we now have our spot to come every time we're in Houston.

Update: Yesterday we actually went inside, and the service couldn't be better! They bring you the cleaned up sauces in a little bucket and they tell you which one is the mildest to spiciest. My 10 year old got the tomatillo and he felt cool. I got the second to last spicy one, cry baby or moco one. the best. I got a huarache with Al pastor meat. Reminds me of the ones in Mexico City. We also got some Al pastor tacos, and a lengua one.Mexican born and raised, I'm very biased when it comes to Mexican food They have not failed me! The food is consistently homey, delicious.I've tried most of their menu but my go-tos are the birria quesadillas, the chilaquiles (with it without meat). If I HAD to say anything for improvement is. Don't post about chanclas (huaraches) and not have them!
