Why 5 stars? Because this was my favorite meal of 2024 so far. --- --- ---It was the wife's birthday and she was close to declaring that she didn't want to do anything at all, which would been a real bummer. Fortunately, she got really into researching the best Omakase spot, and the place she landed on was Sushi By Hidden. They offered it for lunch and for significantly cheaper than any other place, while not sacrificing quality, according to reviewers.Spoiler alert: The reviewers were correct. Quality was not sacrificed. As we walked in (FYI, the lobby looks like an art gallery, not a restaurant), someone was there to greeted us by name. It turned out, we were the only people there for Omakase on a Tuesday afternoon. We had two seats in the middle of the bar, which had about 8-10 seats in total. We were quickly greeted by the chef and offered a free cocktail as a birthday present. We both ordered the mango option, which was the perfect thing to pair with our sushi. The omakase itself had 11 servings. My plan was to rate each one individually, but it turns out, I can do this very efficiently:All 11 items were 5-stars. If you ask me what my favorite one was, my answer is: all of them. Legitimately, every bite was special in its own way. I wouldn't change a thing about the experience. We also added on a Patty Melt at the end of the experience, and no surprise, it was also amazing. The way they keep the costs down is that they really do limit you to 30 minutes. As soon as we were done with our last course, there were multiple subtle reminders (in a nice way) along the lines of "you don't have to go home but you can't stay here".We're only a few months into the year, but it's going to take something really special to dethrone Sushi by Hidden as the best food experience of 2024.

My friends and I snagged a lunch reservation, and it was more like a private experience! We were served the 12-course omakase for $60, as well as sake and an a la carte piece of scallop foie. Every piece was tasty, and the best one was the engawa (apparently a crowd favorite). We were in and out within the 30-minute time frame, and the lobby was a fun place to take photos. While this express omakase dining style isn't for everyone, I'd love to return with my other friends.

We were lucky enough to get the last service by Chef Jonathan. We had his Kobe fair well tour! And he made our experience amazing! We had recently had their parent restaurant Hidden Omakase and we enjoyed it but was recommended to try this joint for a lower price point and shorter meal.So for dinner they do 45 mins and they start on time so make sure you come a little early and take some pictures in the nft gallery out front. If you park it's to the left of the Italian restaurant and has no signage.Once seated they get started right on the dot. But even though it's a short service Jonathan explained what we were getting in great detail. We got better interaction here with the crew than at Hidden Omakase. It's a younger group and more fun and lively. The Engawa was the best thing I have ever eaten at any sushi restaurant. This thing is life changing. And you're able to get an extra piece as an a la carte add on. Do it!!! You will not regret it.My wife and I were so impressed, we will definitely be back and at this price point we can come more often. Best of luck on your next Journey chef Jonathan your skills will truly be missed here.

Sushi by Hidden is one of my top choices for Omakase in Houston - it's affordable (~$60/person), the quality is amazing, and the staff are super friendly.I love the interior as the waiting room is an art gallery and the entrance to the sushi bar is through a secret painting. Sushi by Hidden is reservation only and you'll enter and leave as a group. The sushi chefs are very informative and friendly. They'll crack jokes that will make the experience 10x more enjoyable. They definitely know what they are doing and will field any questions you have.Onto the main course - the omakase comes with 12 pieces, each topped with its beautiful garnish. Each sushi melts in your mouth and leaves you wanting more. I will say that, comparatively, their sushi is a tad bit smaller than typical sushi establishments, however their flavor more than makes up for it. At the end of your course, you also have the option of adding a la carte menu items.Overall, I enjoyed the experience, flavors, and people and expect to see me again.

My favorite omakase spot! When I went it was $65 for 12 or 13 courses (prices have probably gone up because of inflation). You can't beat the quality of sushi for that price! The chefs are so personable and entertaining. The quality of the sushi is amazing. I've been to Toyosu/Tsukiji market in Japan and this definitely compares! My favorites were definitely the engawa and salmon. Service was fast, they really get you in and out within 30 mins. Some people might complain because they feel rushed, but 30 mins omakase is the standard in Japan if you're on a budget. Looking to come back again soon!

Snuck into this speakeasy sushi counter place on a Wednesday night so we were able to dine without a rush or with a crowd. It's a small ish 10 counter space setting that allows for the experience to be very intimate. We had a great, almost one on one time with the sushi chefs who were really easy to talk to and just overall very chill. The sushi was delicious! I especially loved the topping pairing with the fish here, it was very unique and quite bold in my opinion. As far as omakase goes it's almost like an express as most people say but if you have time (or you're the last time slot of the day) you can stay and get more sushi a la carte style at the end, which we did. We always try out the wagyu pieces whenever we go and the nigiri piece here was very good. I mean I know it's hard to mess up Wagyu but like I mentioned the topping pairing made it pop even more. They have the nigiri names on the wall on the right in order of the course so that was very helpful in remembering which pieces I especially loved. I always have such a hard time keeping track and it helped that I didn't have to note that on my phone the whole time. The fatty tuna, wagyu and mackerel were our favorites.Overall 4.5/5 in my opinion. Would love to return here on another night when it's more full to see what that experience is like!

They stay true to their word of this being a 30 minute omakase. You're in and out before you know it so this is perfect for a quick lunch or dinner. While you wait for your reservation, you can admire the various artwork they have hanging before entering the restaurant through the Mona Lisa. I absolutely love the concept of an omakase speakeasy, quite the experience. They only take reservations so be sure to make one! The omakase is $60 for lunch and included 12 pieces. Each piece was skillfully executed in a short amount of time. As soon as you finished the current piece, it was immediately followed up with another. It was a good combination of nigiri pieces, but there was nothing particularly special about the sushi here. Also, don't expect to leave full. Overall, if you're looking for an affordable omakase then Sushi by Hidden is it.

I've been to Sushi by Hidden twice and it's been a great experience every time. It's a quick affordably-priced 45 min omakase in Rice Village.Even though time is short, the sushi chefs take their time in explaining what we're getting and they're all fun and personable. My cousins and I had a great time.I can't remember everything we had. I will say the innovation in flavors was amazing. There were infusions of Tom yum flavoring, even pizza essence that somehow worked so well with the nigiri. I will definitely keep coming back to see what else they come up with in their omakase menu.

My partner surprised me for our anniversary an omakase dinner reservation at sushi by hidden! I have always heard great things about this restaurant so I was really excited to give it a try. The reservation he selected was for dinner and featured 13 courses that included 1 crudo, 10 nigiris, and 1 handroll for 45 minutes at the base price of $75.You could definitely tell that they had a system in place as all of the pieces came out one by one in an efficient manner. The chefs were very engaging, and were answering questions and making sure we were all having a good time! At one point, one of the chefs offered everyone a shot that was pretty good! In terms of taste, I really enjoyed the unique flavors they curated for each piece of fish. I thought it was very well curated and everything seemed to balance well. If you ever decide to eat here, be sure to get here on time as they are very prompt with the reservation times. We did street parking and paid $1.45 for 1 hour. You are given the option to order a la carte at the end, however I would take a glance at the menu ahead of time (or while eating) so you can have an idea of what you might like. Will definitely be back! Great experience.
