I was excited to try a restaurant with creole influences, but i was very much underwhelmed with my selection. I ordered the muffuletta sandwich that came with a side of "smash potatoes". I only got 1/4 of the sandwich. The bread was soft and the olive spread didn't make the sandwich overly salty. The potatoes were very basic. For what I paid I expected a more filling portion. I had the seasonal lychee lemonade, which was very good; I highly recommend. There was only one waiter and he did a phenomenonal job keeping up. Casual atmosphere and decor was reminiscent of nola.

Good spot for Southern & Creole food in Durham! We got the:- Fried Green Tomatoes (Served with Cider-Lemon Baby Spinach, Succotash, Roasted Tomatoes, Bavarian Soft Feta and Drizzled with Smoked Tomato Remoulade): My favorite item! Loved the crispy, juicy tomatoes.- Red Beans and Rice (Slow-cooked with Beef Sausage, served with Garlic Bread): Good, could have been more flavorful.- Smoked Brisket Plate (w/ Smashed Fried Potatoes & Slaw): Brisket was SO tender & smokey. Loved this item!- Southern Fried Chicken Plate (w/ Smashed Fried Potatoes & Slaw): Tender, juicy, crispy chicken. Overall enjoyed this.- Jambalaya (Cajun Roasted Chicken and Rice with Andouille Sausage, Tomato, in a Spicy Broth with Garlic Bread): Pretty classic. - Seafood Plate (w/ Fried Shrimp, Smashed Fried Potatoes & Slaw): Good, but nothing special. I'd probably opt for a fish option like grilled Mahi Mahi or fried Catfish next time. Good service; very aesthetic ambiance. 7/10 would recommend!

"Louisiana-inspired foods in Durham"Came here on a Saturday evening at around 5:30pm. The restaurant is tucked back in what seems a mostly residential area, but they have a nice outdoor patio as well as indoor space. Since it was raining, we sat inside. We didn't have a reservation, but we were able to get a table, though I don't know that we could have gotten a table if we came an hour later. There was also some live jazz music slated to start at 7pm, but we left before that time. The space is large and rustic, with a bar-like area near the door and tables to the side. It was a bit loud inside-- the recorded music was playing loudly, but the room was also a bit echoey inside, so we had a little trouble hearing each other if the person speaking was looking away. Service was friendly-- we were seated promptly, told of the specials, and given as much time as we needed to order.I had the catfish plate, which came with smash-fried potatoes, house pickles, and cider-lemon slaw. My wife had the southern fried chicken sandwich, and my son had the smoked brisket sandwich.Food came out in about 15-20 minutes, and it was hot and fresh. Every dish was great. The fried catfish was some of the best I'd ever had-- two very large pieces of it. The potatoes were quite good-- flavorful with some zing. We also got some as an appetizer that had sour cream or something similar on top, whereas my side version didn't have that. The slaw and pickles were good (the pickles were thinly sliced, not quartered or whole). My son loved his brisket-- I had one bite, too, and it was great. HUGE quantity of moist meat, which did mean the sandwich kind-of fell apart, but in deliciousness. The chicken had a great thai chile sauce that was quite yummy. The staff regularly refilled our drinks and took plates away as we finished the dishes. And once we asked for the check, payment and leaving were pretty rapid.Price was moderate-- not a "cheap" dinner, but appropriate for the quality. I think my catfish dinner was $17 or so.Overall, really liked everything here. Definitely a place we'd consider coming back to if feeling like some cajun or similar food. I'd love to try the more traditional Louisiana dishes next time.

There is a small parking lot outside of the business. I came here on a Sunday afternoon and sat at the bar. There were not too many people dining in the restaurant during my visit. I ordered the fried chicken platter with double potatoes instead of the coleslaw. The potatoes were good & the skin of the chicken was seasoned but a little too salty however the inside of the chicken wasn't seasoned at all. I was asked if I wanted to get the two sauces for my potatoes that are offered for the potatoes but was not informed that there was an up charge. The bartender didn't refill my water and talked to another employee a majority of the time I dined in. She was nice during our limited interaction.

I'd go back! I thought the service was good. And I loved how I was able to walk in and get a table without a reservation on a Saturday! It's also easy to park in the parking lot.The ambiance was nice and they have live music sometimes on weekends! The food was good too. I really liked the catfish and the smashed potatoes. I'd love to try the fried green tomatoes and the fried chicken. I'd also love to try the desserts!

Succotash, succotash, succotash - where do I begin? At the beginning, duh!Succotash has been in my collection of must try for some time. When I partnered with a local foodie group, this location was featured. So, here we are. This restaurant is nestled in a community of established homes with some businesses dispersed here and there. The location offers musical acts on some nights, but on this particular visit we were greeted with a small and cozy environment. Upon being seated, we ordered the Fried Chicken Plate with Succotash, the Catch of the Day Po Boy w/ (salad), Red Beans - to go, and Gumbo (chicken) - to go. To be honest, the Po Boy was the biggest disappointment. The fish was not fried, as assumed, and had a suspiciously fishy smell. In addition, it was beyond oily. The chicken appeared to have been cooked in a cast iron skillet, and the crust was incredibly crispy (yay!). However, it veered toward dry and could have benefited from a tad more seasoning. What saved the show were the creole elements. We really enjoyed the succotash dish for its flavor-fulness. The red beans and rice were outstanding. The tender simmered beans were kissed with an ample amount of smoke via the brisket. In addition, the andouille sausage added a savory touch that couldn't be beat. So good! We decided not to purchase the gumbo and we regret it. Also, the server was phenomenal! In hindsight, I should have tipped more. If I'm in the area again, I look forward to trying a fried Po Boy, Gumbo, Red Beans and Rice, and/or Jambalaya. Rating: 3.3

This place is such a hidden gem and very underrated, at least to me because I've never heard anybody talk about this place. It is a cute restaurant inside with plenty of outdoor seating. It wasn't that busy for a friday night and I placed a to-go order that came out hot and fast. The prices are very generous too because I got 6+ items for only around $120! You honestly can't beat that price with generous portions. You are also able to substitute their coleslaw side for great sides like asparagus, gumbo, potatoes, etc. I got the brisket plate, and substituted the slaw for potatoes and got a side of asparagus. I also got 2 brisket empanadas which came with 2 sides of succotash. Along with that I got 2 shrimp po boys, a fried catfish plate with asparagus, and a side of gumbo. Everything was SUPER seasoned and delicious.I thought every dish was presented amazing, even for being in a to-go box, very flavorful, and satisfying. I was stuffed after trying every dish. This was my first time having succotash and I really liked it. Their brisket was super tender and juicy and so was the brisket empanada. Most dishes had some sort of remoulade sauce drizzled on it which I really enjoyed. The shrimp po boy had a generous amount of shrimp on it too. I guess some dishes had a kick to it which some people may consider spicy but it was great to me.

Stopped by while touring the local universities. Immediately loved the eclectic vibe, warm and genuine staff. Chef took the time needed to make our brisket plates and southern fried chicken with a side of succotash to perfection. Tastes were intense in the right way, wide-ranging, yet balanced especially with a local brew. Textures were perfect, brisket was tender with a crispy layer, chicken was hot and juicy with crispy skin. Slaw was tasty and nicely balanced with pickled red onion. Presentation was beautiful. This is a restaurant that is all about the food and people. We loved it. Thank y'all!
