RUN, don't walk, to St. Roch! This New-Orleans style restaurant had amazing vibes, from the interior decor, to the service, to the central downtown location, to the outstanding food. This is now one of my new favorite food spots in Raleigh. We came while they were running a happy hour special on oysters, so we started off with a half dozen NC oysters (Sea Swan) - they were perfectly cleaned, briny, and meaty. These came with fried saltines, which i've never had before and LOVED - not greasy and extra crunchy. We then moved onto the pickled cauliflower caesar. This lettuce-less salad was unreal, so creative, and made my taste buds dance - The pickled, salty flavor was balanced out perfectly with the richness and creaminess of the Manchego cheese and lemon-anchovy dressing. Our last starter was the gumbo which was also packed with flavor - rich and delicious smoked flavor from the andouille (tastes delicious with the fried saltines dipped in the sauce). For entrees, I got the market fish which was a pan roasted, skin-on golden tilefish. The fish was thick, meaty, and moist. The marinated peas had a delicious salty, pickled flavor which paired perfectly in a bite with the curried labneh and crispy shallots. My husband got their SIGNATURE 'gator bolognese and let me tell you, this was delicious. The bolognese had a unique taste, almost a lick of sweetness on the front end which rounded out perfectly with a the meatiness and hint of spice on the back end. A dollop of burrata makes everything better, and the bucatini was cooked nicely and sopped up all the saucy deliciousness in one perfect bite.
