Soy Pinoy

It had been a minute since we meandered into the Post, where this spot is located.For those who are just venturing to the Post, it's important to note there is some city metered parking around the facility's parking lot. During M-R, the price is free for the private lot up to I believe 75 minutes, then it's $5+ after that time allotment. On Friday through Sunday, only the first 20 minutes is free in the private lot, presumably for to go pickups. Inside, there is communal seating while some establishments have a few tables for themselves. Soy Pinoy is not one of those spots. Be prepared to look around for seating on the weekend when the Post seems to always busy. Soy Pinoy is one of many spots to choose and we had never tried their BBQ Pork. It didn't disappoint. We noticed the rice was a bit dry, but the spicy sauce and veggies were well prepared. The bbq pork itself was great, very flavorful, crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside.I'm knocking this one star as the price is a little steep in my opinion for what you get. Though that goes for most the spots in the Post.

There are definitely some menu items that stand out, but alas, there are equal counterparts. Service, however, was super solid. The gentleman working the register answered our questions confidently and did not shy with giving his personal suggestions.I will admit, out of all the southeastern asian foods, Filipino food is probably what I eat the least, so I know very little about their cuisine. In fact, I'm rather surprised that they use pickled vegetables. It had a very "new american" flare about it. Anyway, we only tried a few items so I'll go into detail of each dish as this review will be somewhat short.For drinks, I wanted to get to know what locals like so we grabbed what appeared to be canned nectars.The (slightly lemongrassy) skewered chicken rice plate was rather plain. Even the rice, as rich as it looked with sauce and fried onions/garlic, it just didn't really have much flavor or depth. The acidic, limey sauce that came with seemed misplaced. We already have pickled cabbage so the dish was poorly balanced as a whole.The bbq pork pancit, though? Oh my goodness. That is a proper dish. Nice sweet and salty cuts of pork cooked with dark soy sauce-- easily can say is their best protein option. Seasoned glass noodles with stir fried vegetables? Yum. Oh, its rich with mushroom flavor, and their spicy chili oil condiment is quite good, too.Their tapioca, coconut milk dessert was delicious and not overly sweet, but at a price point of $9 for a small cup, it's a bit extreme. I'll be honest and say I'd rather hike a few steps to the icecream parlor for a couple large, high quality scoops for a smaller price tag.Their lumpia dish comes with shrimp crackers that are seasoned with, once again, some kind of lemon salt of sorts... lemon zest, perhaps? It's crazy overpowering and hides the subtle salty umaminess of the cracker. As someone who grew up in a Vietnamese household, I'm no stranger to shrimp crackers, and I can say with a lot of confidence that it can be done "better." Lumpia is served with what tastes like a homemade banana ketchup.A bit expensive for what its worth to me, but there was definitely a shining light in the pancit and tapioca dessert.I'd love to try most Filipino restaurants, so if you guys have any suggestions, hmu!

The food is yummy! Definitely a must try in the Post Houston food hall! The Pinoy chicken plate is in point. Chicken is juicy and packed with flavor.Today I tried The veggie lumpa is stuffed with pancit, carrots and mushroom. They had a good crunch. My favorite part was the bites of mushroom inside. Not sure what mushroom they used, but it was yummy when I came across those. You get a dipping sauce that has a little spice.

The food, service and atmosphere is vibe for sure.The food is bomb.com no lie. The chicken was cooked to perfection and was very moist and tender. The white rice and purple cabbage combo compliment the entire entry. As for the service besides the mishap at the beginning the service was fast and good after that. The vibe here is definitely a foodie vibe and you can come and get almost anything your stomach desires. The lumpia's are amazing as well and coupled to a crispy, crunchy perfection with great flavoring of the meat. Honestly I'd come back and try it again for sure.

This place is a sleeper! You've got amazing chefs on this project. Putting out high quality food to a food hall location. Some of the best Filipino bbq pork I've ever had. Most definitely the Lumpia was the best I've tried. Watching them make it in front of you was also a treat. There's not too many Filipino food spots in Houston. And this place just set the bar. It's located inside the Post building. I really enjoyed the food and service. Would definitely recommend it. 4.5 stars.Ever since POST opened, I've been been excited since Paul Qui decided to open up Soy Pinoy. I had my doubts since while he's very good at his Asian fusion concepts, his last Filipino restaurant Qui just wasn't up to par in my opinion. He unfortunately proved me right when soy pinoy opened at first, but now that Tom Cunanan kind of took over this place has been a hit for usEverything we've had here has been super good. Don't expect a super traditional plate with inexpensive price tags- this place is a good blend of traditional cooking with a bit of a modern twist to entice non Filipinos to enjoy our food. My favorite for sure is the lechon that is now served everyday. The grilled liempo is also good, and it's served with a traditional vinegar dip that I grew up eating it with. The spaghetti is also very good, and the vegan bbq was well liked by my vegan sister in law. Overall, it's a pretty good option especially at the diverse food hall at Post. Only gripe is that the prices are on the high side, but considering the location and the quality of food it's really not a bad deal.

I thought I was going to have a difficult time finding this restaurant when I entered the food court area but I found it fairly quickly!I ordered vegetarian pancit as that was the only vegetarian option for elite treat and it was quite good! I thought it was little bit greasy but it had very nice flavor, saltiness with hint of tartness from lemon! I can definitely have it again! :) Keep up the good work!

Big whoop for finding Filipino food, I feel like you definitely don't see that very often! Pretty extensive menu to choose from with a lot of options. I opted for the vegetable pancit noodles and added fried shrimp. This plate was delicious! The noodles were well made and seasoned. The fried lacked flavor, I do wish they had some zing to it. The spicy sauce is SPICY! But yummy. I went back to get the halo halo for dessert. The little cup was $13 which is ridiculously expensive, the same price as my noodles! Despite costing a lot, it was delicious! Loved how creamy it was and the balance of textures was incredible!

The lumpia and service was outstanding! That will be our new go-to place. The servings are huge as well.

Being Filipino and growing up with a mom, grandmothers, aunties, and myself all cooking delicious Filipino dishes, I am no stranger to the cuisine. So, whenever my hometown introduces a new Filipino restaurant, it's always a bucket list goal to check them out.At Soy Pinoy, flavors are familiar but "new," inspired by native concepts but some seasoning & ingredients are less traditional. Like many of the other stalls in the Post HTX food court, they seem to have a "fusion" approach. Sometimes the recipe works, but sometimes it's risky... And to be honest, I'm not sure my tastebuds enjoyed it here. Not sure if it's the oil, vinegar, or seasoning (msg?) used, but everything left an offensive taste in my mouth that lingered for hours...And price-wise, you don't get a whole lot of value-for-the-money. I paid over $22 for a combo that consisted of a plate of mediocre veggie pancit (noodles), cold & stale lumpia (spring rolls), and a few small pieces of pork bbq, with a fountain drink. Not to mention - if you're only coming to Post HTX to eat, be prepared to tack on a parking fee of $5 per hour. I can't justify the price, when there are far better dining options nearby.Besides being unimpressed by the cost and taste of my meal, I couldn't say much better about the overall experience. Service was extremely slow for food that didn't taste fresh off the stovetop/grill. I waited almost 20min for the notification on my phone to text me that my food was ready. Nothing on my tray was hot & fresh; more like pre-made & room temp. On top of that, some standard menu items weren't available. We arrived just before noon on a Sunday, but we were told the highly coveted Lechon wouldn't be ready until 2pm. Advertising says it's only available on the weekends, but nowhere do they specify a time of day.... This was extremely disappointing for a first-timer who drove over an hour from the north side of town and didn't have the time to wait 2hrs for the dish they were looking forward to trying the most. Sadly, with such a formula for disappointment, I don't think we will be back anytime soon.
