I went to Soul Food Vegan with my daughter. I really wanted to order something because I had not eaten all day. When entering I noticed that there was a strange smell. Maybe they needed to change the oil, a lot of things they sell are fried and you may leave smelling like food despite not eating there. We had eaten here before on other occasions and the food was well, but we cannot judge this time. I went to the window to order, the hostess who had been helping a male customer before us had said give her a moment, which we did not mind. After waiting over 6 minutes, I told my daughter let's go somewhere else due to the fact no one would take our order or was in the building who worked there. We went to the car and the hostess was outside laughing and joking with male customers in their vehicle. We would have just liked professionalism, but it may have just been a bad day.

This place always serves really fresh & warm food. It stays busy but the wait time isn't outrageous. Ample parking in their lot and across the street. The restaurant is right across from Emancipation Park. Their food definitely makes your soul feel good and guilt free. Lots of options to choose from. Some of my favorite dishes are their BBQ mushrooms, boudain balls, mac, & collard greens. You really can't go wrong with anything here. They also have desserts sometimes as well as smoothies and juices. Kids meals available for the little ones. Staff is always friendly and helpful. There is space to sit indoors as well as outside when it's warmer but it is a small intimate space. Great place overall. 1000 out of 10 recommend if you're in Houston and looking for some quality vegan comfort food.

Came around 5 pm on a Monday and waited 5 minutes to order and 10 for the food. We ate inside. We got the platter with cauliflower steak and some jambalaya. Food was very flavorful and delicious. The cauliflower steak was very very difficult to eat with a plastic fork. It would have been great if they also gave out plastic knives. If you can, take this to go and use metal cutlery or BYO. I also would've loved it if it came with some kind of sauce. Gravy, bbq, etc. Overall great experience and would recommend.

I don't have enough words to express my gratitude for this restaurant!! Words aren't enough to express how tasteful the food is. Every dish that I've ordered from here had me lost for words. The environment inside is peaceful and the cooks work extremely hard and care about what they service to their guests. This is greatly appreciated and I commend you all for working diligently behind the counter!! Keep it up. Blessings!

It was alright. Just simply okay but certainly not worth the wait. Waited like 45 minutes for 2 cauliflower platters and jambalaya. The cauliflower was breaded and fried well but bland. It definitely needs some bar-b-que sauce or hot sauce to make it palatable. Otherwise. It's just bland and dry. You've got to mix it with the greens and Mac and cheese to get even an ounce of the full effect. I've had vegan greens, Mac and cheese and dirty rice at several vegan soul food restaurants and this place doesn't compre. Bottom tier. The Mac and cheese was a bit too sweet for my liking. The greens weren't acidic enough and the rice was mushy. Not to mention $10 for lemonade and $4.5 for a small bottle of "alkaline" water.

The food was delicious and I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. The service was great and the food came out quickly. To be completely honest, I was worried due to reading some of the other reviews as I was not sure what to expect. However, as a vegan and someone who is extremely particular about my food and service, this is a wonderful place and a must to try. I cannot wait to go back to Houston to try the various dishes Soul Food Vegan has to offer. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant for not only vegans, but for anyone who wants some good home cooking food.

Rude employees. Food was way overpriced for what they actually serve . I ordered a kale salad and honestly with the $12 I paid I could have & should have just went grocery shopping and made a better & bigger salad. There was no wait when I came to order but for some reason i waited well over 30 mins for a to go box with kale onions and cashew dressing. I wanted to love this place & maybe I should have tried it a second time but the employees and the simple salad won't allow me to. It's hard enough to find vegan options but finding good vegan options is damn near impossible.

I came in from Arizona to try this place. I went on Saturday May 4, 2024.Now the Customer service was a 10. The vibes, the smiles, the energy was all 10/10!!!! Truly enjoyed the space. Here is what I ordered and how I would rate it on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being amazing:Mac and cheese: 6 (it was not the traditional baked Mac and cheese when you think soul food, but it was the only thing I liked that had seasoning. But it gave more like a cheese pasta)Collards: 2 (no seasoning, no flavor, just collards) Catfish: 1 (breaded well, but no seasoning on the mushroom and the batter was bland)Peach cobbler rolls: 2 (lacked flavor and peach cobbler sauce) Dirty Rice 2 (no seasoning, and the brown rice wasn't my personal fave choice for dirty rice, but even with seasoning it would have been fine)Overall, I would give the entire experience 3 stars. I tried to add hot sauce to give it flavor and it just wasn't there. I date a vegan chef and there are just a few things that could have made the dishes better. I really believe with a few tweaks this place could really be some bomb Soulfood. Because all the food was presented very well, cooked well, and had the right textures. However, NOTHING but the Mac and cheese had seasoning. And when you use the name soulfood in the brand, it has to deliver exactly what big mama's kitchen would deliver after church on a Sunday.I hope this review is read and received because there is so much potential here. The main thing is seasoning. The way the food is cooked and prepared is on point, the measurements on seasonings has to match the name. Soulfood insinuates a ton of flavor and seasoning. Wish you all the best!!!

Well I usually get the mushroom platter which I enjoy very much, this time I opted to try something different. Kale salad and the supreme burger. The burger was very tasty. I feel like I inhaled it in about 2 minutes flat. I did think it could have been a bit larger, with the name " supreme" I was expecting a larger patty or at most generous toppings. That was not quite what I received and with the price being around $15 I was a little sticker shocked. The kale salad was NOT kale, it was no where to be found, it was a spinach salad... not even close. I guess I will stick to the mushrooms
