Smokey Joe's Tavern

Haven't eaten here but have come a few times to drink and hang out and it's a great spot. Nina the bartender is my absolute favorite! She even let us eat some dragon fruit the other day at the bar when no one else was there. This is also a great venue for watching tv or sports - my bf and I were in a game show and they let us air his main episode there. It's spacious and can fit a lot of people so it's good for a show premiere as well. Good selection of beers and drinks with friendly service.

I LOVE SMOKEY JOE'S!!!! What a great vibe here. I love showing friends this bar when they visit town. It is such a nice and casual place and the bartenders are nice and attentive. The drinks are reasonably priced and they do some sort of specials or event every night of the week! Haven't tried the food here yet, but I definitely will at some point, especially if I want a small bite to snack on. Their menu looks bomb and I am excited to try it and will update my review once I do. 10/10 recommend Smokey Joe's for a casual bar in University City!!!

Best kept secret in Philly. Fab cheesesteak. Delicious beer. Absolutely outstanding service (shout out to Halo!). 5 stars. Would 100% come here again

This place has mixed reviews but for me and a friend, it was a good hangout place. We just chatted and I had just come from a big banquet. Plus the kitchen was closed anyway and I only had water which surprised him. He shouldn't have been surprised as be knew where I'd beforehand. He had wine and said everywhere else he goes, a glass is at least $8-12. An older crowd was here. Maybe because it was a Mon night. The Eagles were playing but it wasn't packed but it was a good crowd. Apparently this is a college student joint too but on this day it wasn't. The pepperoni pizza looks decent if I am around when the kitchen is open.Added 11/17/22:Also, thank you for being open so late when most other good places closed in the general area!#ThankYouThursday

I heard that Smokey Joe's tavern served really good Enjay's pizza, so I decided to stop by when I was in University City for a movie screening. I clearly walked into a dive bar when I arrived, so I was beginning to doubt I would get good pizza there. I had a chance to try a couple of drinks while I sat at the bar and waited for my pizza. I ordered a rum & coke and a moscow mule. The moscow mule wasn't even served in the right cup, even though I saw they had the correct cups behind the bar. Both drinks were poorly mixed with the improper ratio. My food expectations were lowered even more. Then my pepperoni & sausage pizza finally arrived. When I picked up the first slice I was happily surprised by the firm crust without much flop. They I took my first bite and was even more surprised that it tasted so good! The sausage was nice juicy Italian sausage that mixed well with the pepperoni. It could have used more sausage though. It was cheesy with a crispy crust. It was a top of the line pizza. I ate an entire pizza and had to resist licking my fingers at the end. But with drinks so bad and the poor ambiance, I would only go back to pick up a pizza take out order.

We came here to grab a few drinks and head over to a friends place, but decided to stay for some quick bites. The bartenders were super attentive and quick with getting us drinks that were delicious! We also grabbed a pepperoni pizza and Buffalo wings. I'm so happy we did, they were absolutely delicious. The pizza crust was cooked perfectly and it had the right amount of crisp. The buffalo wings were breaded and was coated with the right amount of sauce. This is a super chill bar with great energy from the serves and bartenders. It wasn't too busy or packed but that could be because we went on a Wednesday night.

They had food? How long have they had food? Who is Enjay? What is the circumference of the Earth? They have FOOD?I got invited to stop by and hang out with a buddy who I didn't know worked the bar here. Anyways, she asks "you want anything to eat?" and I'm like "in general?""Nah, we got food. Enjay's."Turns out, Smoke's has some REALLY good food. And that stuff is still sub $10 per person on average.And the beer is still cheap.You know what? On a Summer weeknight when there's a small chance that I'm not the oldest person in the bar (36 right now, I'm 2 fake ID kids glued back-to-back years old), this place slaps.I've had their burger 2 nights in a row and I'm still thinking about it. I thought my burger binge phase for the year was over, but here Smoke's is PULLIN' me back in.I have stared in envy at their pizza because I haven't brought friends to share one.Anyway, check them out again if you haven't been. Just avoid Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, unless you're a college student, in which case have fun, chil'rens.

The vibes here are great especially when it's with a lot of people. In regards to the food, the pizza I had was okay - it's quite cheesy but pretty oily and dough just doesn't taste the most high quality. Rumor has it their tequila sunrises are pretty stellar though

I came expecting much better oh how sad I amThe beer is hot and they don't know what getting it dressed is? Hmm this is a bar is it not. I asked for Ice water I did not receive it. The enjoys fries are almost cooked (almost). If you want a pizza which is the second reason I came could not be rated. They have no beef option the only meat choice is pork. And do not try and ask if they have a non pork option they will suggest pepperoni, bacon, sausage etc.
