Several things caught my eye: good reviews, excellent prices, and the building that houses Shee Yuan. Unlike your typical strip mall joint, the building is old. It has character.Our takeout order? Four stars is an exaggeration. Hot and sour soup was too peppery and lacked body. (It actually tasted better the second day.) I prefer their egg drop wonton soup. Chicken chow mein has the right ingredients .... but little taste. I doctored it up with soy sauce, but still quite bland. Mongolian beef was good .... but I don't think it was really Mongolian beef. If so, their spin is different than any I've had. Shee Yuan is far from gourmet. In business for almost thirty years, it's an old fashioned restaurant -- takeout only -- adjacent to the Overbrook train station. We'll come back, but not likely to duplicate this order. As others have said, the owners of Shee Yuan are very nice (which may be why I gave 'em an extra star.)

For some reason a had a taste for some egg foo young & I hadn't had it in years. I found this spot & decided to try it out, not to mention that yelp had given them some good reviews. Needless to say that "I was not disappointed". It actually brought back memories from my old school days when I survived off of four wings & fried rice. My food was delicious & don't judge me, I was on a budget back then.

I'll keep it simple: This is quite possibly the best Chinese food I've ever had. Affordable, sizable portions, seasoned and cooked perfectly, and a menu that has some special items I haven't seen at other places.I ordered the tofu and broccoli entree with rice, a vegetable spring roll, and an order of Chinese donuts. Most places don't have broccoli AND tofu, you get one or the other, so that was already a plus. The tofu was crispy on the outside and the broccoli was cooked but still somewhat crunchy. The sauce reminded me of the Chinese food I used to get back in New York...but was somehow better. The spring roll was not greasy and the veggies inside weren't the same chewy stringy things I usually get. The donuts were pretty incredible, especially because you get TEN of them for $3.49. They weren't overly sweet or greasy - just a perfect end to a great meal. I'm nervous that I live near this gem - but nervous in the best way! ;)

The food quality itself is just average. It's good and I would have no problem eating here again, but it's definitely not something to write home about nor is it a place I can say to go out of your way for. The big pro and the reason I gave it a 4 stars is the price. We got enough food to feed 6 people and have leftovers for less than $50.Average food at cheap prices is a 4 in my book any day of the week and if you live in the area it's worth going.

I mean, they're not the best, but they're one of the better in the Overbrook Farms section. The food is usually consistent with flavor and preparation. Portions and prices coincide very well. Now I do wish their wings were bigger, but that's always hit or miss at most places. Good for a carry out spot.

I love this restaurant. They have an extensive menu, kind workers, and great food. It is amazingly cheap without losing anything in the meal- and so nice that it is situated by saint joseph's university because we cannot afford expensive meals! This isn't the kind of restaurant where you could sit inside to eat, strictly takeout- and that's okay!

I also was in the mood for egg foo young and was truly disappointed by the tasteless brown gravy. I also order steamed chicken and vegetable for my husband, the sauce on the side was salty and tasteless. Will never go here again
