TL:DR... Good food. Great service (ask for Ryan, tip him well.) Inside has higher tables and chairs. It was chilly but we sat outside. It was nice outside because they have ac. Don't get there too late. Try the coconut shrimp. Try the crispy Brussels sprouts.We came here tonight (July 4th) for my sister's birthday and it was a great experience. We sat outside because my mom and I don't like bar-height seating. We were not really wanting to sit outside because it's July in Texas which is HOT... however, the outside deck is somewhat closed in at times and there is ac outside too. It was really nice and it didn't feel like we were outside. We enjoyed watching some boats park while we were eating.Our service was fantastic. Ryan was our waiter and he was not only helpful with the menu, but he had some great suggestions as well.There was 3 of us. We all got fried shrimp. My sister had the coconut shrimp. I would get both again, but the coconut shrimp was definitely the better choice! The truffle au gratin potatoes were good, the veggies were good, but the crispy Brussels sprouts were by far the best option. I'm so glad I got them!Because we were celebrating my sister's birthday, she got a free dessert. She went for the cheesecake and it did NOT disappoint. My mom got the crème brûlée and it was SO good. We just got back from a cruise 2 weeks ago and the crème brûlée on the ship had NOTHING on this one. I would get either one of these desserts again.It was right after 6 when we arrived and I'm glad we got there at an earlier time because it was easy to find parking and also the restaurant started filling up towards the end of our meal. They didn't have a wait list yet, but I'm sure it was coming. I don't know whether it's due to the holiday or just their normal traffic.We also found out that they have a whole new menu starting tomorrow so I look forward to going back to try some new things.All in all, I'm happy I ate here and I'm excited to go back.

Nice place more sports bar restaurant. Not the romantic place used to be when it was opus. The food was good. Enjoyed ourselves out on the deck. Service was excellent. Drinks a little pricey. Had a great time will be coming back

Definitely recommend this local food spot. Try the fish tacos, grilled or blackened. They are the bomb with the outrigger sauce. Bammmm, you will go back.

We got the crab cake, lobster bisque, chicken fried steak and blackened red fish, everything was delicious the service was good. We sat outside on the water the ambiance is great. Will definitely be back!

Shafer's Coastal Bar and Grill in another life was on the water under another name; I like Schafer's better. It is also on the water and has a few slips for smaller boats. Our preference is to sit outside. They had a great happy hour and specials every night. The inside stays very busy and has a large bar crowd. We always have great service.

The minute you walk in you are greeted with a welcoming host. We were quickly seated on the outdoor patio by request next to the water. We have been here on busy packed day but today was nice and lax. Our server, Hector, was friendly, fun and just an awesome guy! The music was nice and the restaurant and restrooms very clean. Tables clean with cloth napkins awaiting you when you sit as well as a bread plate. My son saw disco fries and gave me his big brown puppy eyes so I gave in. They were sinful. (Photo) but good. Then we got our usual fish tacos that are always perfect. THE best fish taco in Houston hands down! Shafer's is a great place for a casual lunch or dine inside for a nice intimate experience.

Great little gem near Clear Lake Shores/Kemah area. They have a small outside area that is closed in with a view of the canal, and an upstairs area. The specials are great. Food is delicious and the service is top notch. On Sundays they have a killer bloody mary bar with bacon, okra, green beans, and all the fixins! The outriggers blackened fish tacos are my favorite.

The service was amazing and honestly the best service I've ever had. The lobster bisque was amazing as well! I don't recommend the Mac n cheese it was flavorless but we had snapper and that was great. The drinks we also great and came out quick! Recommend highly!

I have mixed feelings about this placeThe soup was more of a tomato bisque with a few lobster shavings than an actual lobster soup

I carefully and thoroughly reviewed my reviews to see if I have ever given this restaurant a review...to my surprise I have not...which is frankly shameful as is probably one of the most durable and dependable dining experiences in or around Kemah (actually in Clear Lake Shores).Firstly let's start with the ambiance which is by no means trendy but is really quite charming especially if you are able to sit out on the patio which overlooks a series of boat docks...not a great deal of boat traffic however if you enjoy dining by the water this will do it...even if you can't sit on the patio. The drawback is the place is noisy however this is due to its popularity and the hustle of the servers which takes me to the 2nd redeeming aspect of this establishment.For as many times as I have been to Schafer's, and it has to be no less than 20 times have I ever had a bad service experience regardless of where I sat be it the bar, the main dining area or the patio. I'm not quite sure how such a service level is possible...I'm assuming great hiring and training but I suspect there is something within the corporate culture which is inherent. It's a great service experience regardless of the activity levelThe food and its cost is likewise well matched. Please don't view this as a criticism of the quality of food as it is not but other than the oysters during season I will describe the food as reliable. The oysters on the other hand are outstanding when in season and if they tell you they are not good hence don't have them even if others (other restaurants) do trust these folks...they are quite expert in the arena of high quality raw oysters on the half shell.In any case if you find yourself in the Clear Lake, Kemah region don't miss this dining experience. It's well worth it.
