Date night dinner and concert at Fox Theater, I would highly recommend enjoying a meal and pre-gaming libations at Yonsei! I thought I had taken photos of our drinks but alas I didn't.The espresso martini and Hana G+T are must tries! Think delicious purple Kool-Aid for adults only. The espresso martini was balanced not too vodka strong but just enough bitter and sweetness of the coffee/espresso.Each handroll delivered the right amount of rice-to-topping, allowing your palate to get the maximum flavor of the prepared sushi fish. The micro cilantro with ponzu and fennel oil for the hamachi carpaccio was a flavorful delight, would love to have a whole bowl on its own as a side to the handrolls.Would definitely come back again to try the other handroll flavors and enjoy the ambience!

Came here during lunchtime on a weekday to grab some food with my husband. I think they're opening a location in Albany so my husband and I wanted to try this place out before it opened in Albany. The interior of this place is really cute and gives cozy vibes. The seats itself aren't very comfortable and they do make a lot of noise when they go against the floor. This restaurant is known for their handrolls so don't expect to get "sushi rolls" here. My husband and I got the lunch special that had three handrolls ( cod , salmon, and albacore) that came with a salad, sunomono, and edamame. I would say that the food here is pretty good, 3.5/5. The cod was the best handroll out of the three. The salmon tasted fresh, but was missing flavor like spices or something to make it better. Service here was good although our server didn't give me the yuzu lemonade until I was basically done with lunch. Overall, this place is pretty good.

I heard about this place from a popular tiktok foodie I follow and I was so excited to try.... but alas didn't really meet expectations :( I wanted to come here for an anniversary date to splurge a bit on food. We made reservations for 8pm here and were seated a few minutes after. Upon walking in it was a cute small spot, but were weren't greeted by anyone- fine it was packed but that was the first impression coming in. Once we got seated, we knew what we wanted so while we waited we just observed. While we were waiting we noticed the people who sat down after us got their order taken before us..... whilst we were sitting at our table... parched... because they didn't bring us water a while after we sat and I had to make eye contact with a server to get a pitcher.... I tried to overlook the first interactions because I wanted to enjoy this spot and give them the benefit of the doubt as it was later in the day and they told us they were busy. As a food service worker I 100% understand the exhaustion after a busy day so was not trying to let that ruin the experience. We got the "Baller" Omaka- set which was decent, honestly only 2 out of the 5 hand-rolls stood out; the Toro & Caviar and Black cod & Truffle butter. We also got 4 drinks; Hana G&T, Yonsei-rita, Dewazakura Oka Ginjo, and Sohomare Karakuchi. The cocktails were actually delicious... if they were just a bar I'd probably come just for those 2 drinks. Sake was good too but... those cocktails... I really wanted to like this spot and give it a 10/10 because the bill came out to ~$230 for 2 omakasets and the drinks. I get it's probably paying for presentation, but honestly if you were going to spend big bucks for dinner I'd go elsewhere.

Wow! Delicious! Reservations are important on a Friday night. We saw people get turned away because they were fully booked. We arrived early for our 5:45 PM and were seated immediately. We were in a tasting mood. We ordered the sake flight and by the end all three of omaka-sets. We split every single handroll. The ballet was by far my favorite. The uni was wow. The cod delicious. Tako tender. Yum yum yum!Taylor was attentive, friendly and a great server. The venue is small but well organized. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience.

We had a 7 pm reservation and were seated at a 2-seater high top with an open window to the streets. This is perfect for date nights, celebrations, or just a private dinner! Service was friendly and handrolls came one by one. Great selections of drinks. The menu offers a few apps and all handrolls. We got the salmon, salmon belly, snow crab, toro/caviar, and uni/Ikura. I would have to say that their uni is fresh, creamy, and umami. It's the best ones I've ever tasted (including ones that I've had in Japan!). I loved how the seaweed doesn't get soggy and they aren't shy with the fish portion. However, the snow crab on the other end was particularly too salty for me. I would definitely come back here!

Made a 6:00pm reservation for the Monday before Christmas through Resy. Since it was a weekday there was plenty of street parking (note that the closest parking garage closed at 7pm).The restaurant is easy to find as it is right across the street from the Fox Theater. It also seems like the owners are the same as Itani Ramen next door (but I could be wrong). There were quite a few tables seated when we arrived. We awkwardly stood by the door for about 3-4 minutes before a calm waitress came from the back to seat us. Not sure if it was the seating arrangement or the lack of music/conversation, but the ambiance was a bit awkward. The waiters/waitresses stayed in the back of the restaurant, away from the dining area, and only came out to deliver the hand rolls, pour water, etc. The menu is very straightforward with appetizers, hand rolls (individual and eats), and a vast array of alcoholic beverages. My partner and I both ordered the OG Set + the optional black cod hand roll. I liked how they delivered each hand roll individually so the rolls were fresh. They came at a good pace, and I also really liked that they had two different options for soy sauce dispensing (random I know, but I've never seen this before!). One was a dropper and the other was a normal pour spout. My favorite hand rolls were the Negihama and the Black Cod. The Negihama wasn't chopped as much as a traditional Negihama would be, it was more so chopped into cubes. But I actually really enjoyed it, as the texture was better this way. Although I wish there was a bit more green onion. The black cod surprised me. I was expecting to be overwhelmed by the truffle butter but the ratio was spot on. The fish was flaky, buttery, and sweet, and paired well with the umami and salt of the truffle butter. Special shout out to the Snow Crab as well, as they were quite generous with the crab portion. I spent about $113 for the two hand roll sets + 1 sake flight + tip. The price isn't bad for the quality of ingredients but is a bit steep for a regular night out. Maybe more so a special occasion type of night IMO.

High quality sushi, very cool hip vibes in uptown. Ignore the transplant nerds who say the area is unsafe- maybe Iowa is more their vibe. The rolls are very good but a little small, and they only have 3 vegetarian options. The drinks are very good and they have a wide japanese whiskey selection too. Service was good but there were only 2 servers it seemed. The rolls are great for 2-3 bites, but you're always wanting a little more. This is the perfect place to go before a show at the Fox or doing some partying afterwards- it'll fill you up but isn't a gut-buster like many places can be. There are so many rolls on the menu it's hard to tell, but the dungeness crab one was out of this world and worth a trip on its own.

Came here on February 5, a Monday night. This handroll restaurant is a great experience if you want to savor and enjoy some authentic handrolls. Don't expect a big meal here though, this is definitely better for tastings, so come here if you want to simply enjoy handrolls. We tried an Omaka-Set, which comes with 5 handrolls. We went for OG, Tried & True Classics. These were the flavors we went for (from what I can remember): Zuke Maguro - soy cured ahi tunaNegihama - yellowtail, green onionsBlack Cod & truffle butter (an extra +$8, and also a very popular choice)Spicy Tuna, tempura crunchSnow Crab, garlic chivesThese were all solid choices!

The yonsei handroll set was very good! I ordered a set with the addition of a wagyu handroll and a lemonade. The lemonade was great to cut through the handrolls, as each one had its own unique flavor profile. Service was attentive and friendly and ambiance was definitely meant for dates (or with friends having a classy moment).
