I appreciate the openness to discourse on this issue. We have communicated via email and I now believe the owner is trying to be transparent. I still believe that the implementation of a separate surcharge by its nature shifts the onus to the consumer to notice the added fee and no matter how you communicate it, it will always be less transparent than listing the full price directly on the menu. That said, I do believe that Underdogs is genuinely listening to feedback and committed to making improvements where they feel is possible.Despite disagreeing on the necessity of separating the fees, I wish Underdogs the best!

Came by on a beautiful Sunday afternoon for lunch after a morning of riding bikes up and down Great Highway. Love the outdoor seating with the wooden tables and bench seats in cubbies - I like that the bench goes all the way around on the inside to add an extra seat there! Service was friendly and efficient. Hibiscus agua fresca was delicious, and my son enjoyed his pineapple agua fresca. * chips, salsa, guac: the chips are thick cut and tasty. I wish the pico and guac were on the side instead of on top though, to make it a bit neater to eat (plus one kid likes guac but the other doesn't). Having the guac dolloped on top kind of hides that it's not a big portion of guac for the price, ha. Pico is fresh and tasty though!* carnitas tacos - generous amount of meat with crisped edges. My eldest ate up 3* fish tacos - my friend got two. Each taco had a very generous amount of fried fish, to the point we joked he got fish and chips* chilaquiles rojo, add carne asada. Same thick cut chips that I like, sauce was ok, good amount of cotija, crema, guac. I was disappointed the egg was scrambled (like scrambled separately and then sprinkled into the chips) instead of fried and runny on top, which I prefer. Generous amount of carne asada, which was tender and quite tasty. * kids bean and cheese burrito: just a heads up it was on a whole wheat flour tortilla (my youngest much prefers white) and it's whole beans instead of refried. I like the bottles of salsa verde and the red/orange salsa. I'd definitely come back again and try something else - tacos seemed solid, and the meats were all good.

We ordered a delightful appetizer that had guacamole. That was five stars. Also, French fries for the two-year-old. I ordered the Mexican burrito, which had chorizo and ground beef. The burrito should be taken off the menu because you could float a boat in the red-colored grease and oil it had in it.Service was very good, five stars.Ambiance that of a bar with tables to eat food. The burrito just knocked everything downwards, rating wise.

As much as I miss Bashful Bull, I like this new location for Underdogs (2). Parking can be tricky, since it's residential and street parking can be hit or miss. There's lots of room and space inside, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.I liked my al pastor quesadilla. Very affordable, flavorful, and not overly greasy. It was a nice meal/snack to enjoy while watching a sports game on one of their many large TVs. Drinks are a bit pricier though. Service was friendly but lacking. Had to ask our server three times for the check and a to-go box, even on a non-busy day. Otherwise, I'd probably go back.

Probably the best Mexican I've had outside of mission! Very inexpensive compared to normal SF prices. The nachos were amazing, came w guac, beans, pico de gallo, steak and sour cream! The quesadillas were almost burritos shaped, but absolutely amazing! Service was wonderful!

I would give our experience 2.5 stars but the food is so darn tasty so I rounded up. My wife, 6-month-old, and I stopped in for the fall 2024 SF Restaurant Week (RW).The evening started off on a good note by finding a premium parking spot on the same block as the restaurant. We grabbed the diaper bag and baby, then made our way into the restaurant. There were only two spaces available for us at shared tables--one next to the door and the other more inside the restaurant with another family. Gone are the days of pounding shots and chugging beers, so we decided to sit with the other family (it was also cold by the door ).The experience slowly went downhill from there. First off, we were given menus and the RW option wasn't even printed. What's the point of participating if the menu isn't socialized? Strange but whatever. We showed the menu on our phone and ordered an Option 2 (skinny guac, 2 tacos Nick's way, and any dessert) which was supposed to be $30, along with carne asada nachos and a couple of beers.Beers came out almost immediately, which was awesome, and the food came out as it was ready. It ended up being delicious, by the way--strongly recommend the carne asada! However, they didn't give an extra plate for the nachos or any forks until we asked. As the evening went on, the beer glasses emptied and the water cups ran dry. Maybe a portion of the experience is the casual vibe, but we spent almost 2 hours at dinner and nobody came around to refill waters once. There was a lot of chit-chatting and messing around amongst staff as they should from time to time, but it honestly made us feel neglected. So we thought, "okay, it's a bar/restaurant and very casual. Maybe they don't check in on tables after the orders come out." Except when the waitress came back around about the dessert for the RW option, she let us know that "only the churros" were available, despite the menu clearly saying "any dessert item." We reluctantly agreed, even though we really wanted to try one of the pies. The last couple of straws were: (1) it took like 15 minutes to get the bill; (2) the RW option ended up being $31 vs. $30; and (3) standard tip options ranged from like 18% to like 30%. My in-laws have a restaurant, and my wife grew up working in the restaurant, so I/we have a healthy respect for how hard the staff work and have no problem tipping accordingly, even in excess of 50% if it felt warranted. Because it was nearing our son's bedtime, we didn't really have much time to debate the semantics of dessert, manually adjusting the tip, etc.Unfortunately, all the little things really added up here and turned what we thought was going to be a 5-star experience into a 3-star at best. :(

For the ambience, proximity to the beach, sports tv's, and of course the shot and beer $10 combos, 5 stars! Friendly customer service here.Have not tried the food, but I did see they serve skinny guac! *heart eyes*This time around, I got a mezcal cocktail. Smoky and delicious.

Been ages since I've been here and I was craving a fish taco so I decided to head here for lunch with a friend the other day. We got 2 Fried Fish & 2 Carne Asada tacos Nick's Way, Suiza Al Pastor quesadilla, and 2 Horchatas. I was really hoping it was gonna hit that nostalgic foodie spot for me, but nope... The fish taco was just ok, fried tortilla inside was hard and fish seemed smaller. The Al Pastor didn't taste like Al Pastor, but was still good. It was more so of a Smokey bbq take on Al Pastor. They forgot my sour cream and guac for it tho, but was charged. The carne asada tacos were ok and horchata was the powdered kind and super sweet.

Haven't been here since the pandemic? So it was good to be back. Had the pozole, because it was getting cooler and the Nick's way taco with al pastor. The pork was tender in the pozole and tasty in the taco. I also had the frozen margaritas with mango and strawberry, which was really good. Service was attentive and helpful. We asked to switch tables because it was a little breezy by the entrance. Overall, good times and good food. Got to catch some of the games on the TVs too.

My opinion is that this place has the best house margaritas. If you go M-F 4:30p-6p, they're half priced at $5 each. Get a Tecate for $3 too at that time. Their burritos are amazing. I usually get the SF Mission style with pollo. And their home-made style salsas are suprime. Honestly anything's just hits right from this place. They have great vegetarian options too. Try their Elote and veggie burrito. There are other locations too. The OG one is near the baseball stadium and the other is at inner Irving off the N line. Perfect for solo dates or whatever you have in mind. Cheers, enjoy!
