Rec Room

We came during Halloween weekend. My friend was DJing. The staff were very friendly! We got "vip" which is two little tables in the back. They did not come and check on us. But it's ok. No biggie. I had to go to the bar to refill our water pitchers a couple of times.The vibes were good! Lots of Halloween costumes so I enjoyed looking at them. I don't order food so not sure what that would taste like. I heard they serve brunch!

Bar prices not too bad and great drink offerings I love all the different shooters! I also like the free water cuz it's definitely needed. It's a small space but doesn't ever feel too cramped. The cover fee is around five dollars if I remember correctly which is reasonable. Great music!

Quite honestly, I'm having a difficult time understanding how this place has four stars. I've been here once before, but immediately left. Rec room is incredibly small for the amount of people they let in. More importantly, compared to other bars in dtsj, this is quite ghetto and I don't say that lightly. Anyway, the reason why I left was because I felt someone was gonna shoot up the place lolHOWEVER, last night, a really good dj was spinning and my friends and I were willing to risk it all to see him lmao We were fortunately put on guest list so we didn't have to pay cover. My friends and I needed to use the restroom and we discovered that there's a SINGLE unisex stall for the entire place. Whose bright idea was that? Because I'd like to have a word. We waited nearly half an hour bc the line was so long. Then I had a brilliant idea - let's go use a bathroom at another bar and come back! But security stopped us and said there are no in and out privileges, which is unheard of. No other bars in dtsj have this policy. And I'd understand if it was a super nice bar, but it's NOWHERE close to that. They would've made us pay cover if we did leave. So we ended up staying. Finally, security decided to open up bathroom stalls underground, which was super sketch and quite a walk. Still had to wait, but it moved much faster. Security is INCREDIBLY rude and on a power trip. Several of my friends got kicked out by security for no apparent reason. Sounds like this is an issue from reading other reviews. I'm only giving one star because it's the only option Yelp will allow. Even then, one star is quite generous for my experience. 10/10 NEVER coming back. I will never understand why people willingly go here.

Rec Room is easily one of the best bars in Downtown SJ for a night out on the town. But have you considered them for their Sunday brunch menu? Don't think I had the right idea of what this place was. I thought it was a cocktail bar, expected a nice/cool bar vibe with great cocktails, got a small room with some liquor on the wall and heavy promotion of well drinks. Went on a Wednesday evening during happy hour, we were the only ones there for about 45 minutes when finally one other person came in. We sat downstairs at one of the 3 tables since the upstairs portion was closed. Happy hour menu didn't include the cocktails, only draft beer (which they said they didn't have that day), wine, and well drinks. There were only 5 cocktails on the menu. I asked which of two was the less sweet one, and ended up ordering that - which was the Ron Ron Juice. WOW was that drink sugary! It was a citrus based drink and was very tart, so I understand why the bartender would say it wasn't sweet, but I felt like I was drinking lemonade with a few extra scoops of sugar. It was so sugary in fact that my stomach hurt for the rest of the night. There were multiple reviews that said people who didn't like the taste alcohol liked the drinks here and after having one I can totally see that. Overall a pretty disappointing experience, could've just been a wrong perception though. I could see this being a good place for college students to come on Friday/Saturday night to get the well drinks! That's not my scene anymore though, so don't think I'll be returning.

Overall this place is okay, I have been here twice and I feel the first time the music was better and fit more of the dancing scene The first floor is the bar and the second floor is the dancing area (but this time there was not a lot of dancing going on, mostly head bobs)Music: overall it's okay it's a mix of genres but does not have enough dancing music to keep everyone moving. They play animated show on the screen which is a little random The floors are always sticky from spilled drinks and the drinks are pricy Also if you want to leave and explore the area they will not let you back in so make sure that you want to leave before you do I only liked this place because I ran into my younger cousin and an old friend at this location

I checked out Rec Room for dinner during Happy Hour and the food here was top-notch and amazing! Instant good vibes upon arrival seeing the cool bright red RECROOM signage in front, and when you enter there are lots of hip décor and a spacious back patio to hang out.For my entrée, I got the Rec Room Burger and added bacon. The bun was perfectly buttered and soft, high-quality burger patty tasted moist and delicious, billionaire bacon was thick, sweet, and savory, and the gorgonzola was creamy, funky, and so delicious. Each bite tasted heavenly! The Rec Room Burger was one of the best burgers I've tasted in SJ in a while. I also ordered the Truffle Fries, Elote Fritters, and Brussel Sprouts. They all tasted great, but the Truffle Fries stood out to me most. The fries cut was uniquely shaped and super crisp. It was perfectly seasoned, got the perfect amount of pungent and earthy truffle oil, and so darn addicting!Finally, I couldn't dine here without checking out the Como La Flor signature drink. The subtle spice from the jalapeno tequila stood out and I loved how strong tasting the drink was and it wasn't overly sweet. Very enjoyable!I can't wait to go back to try their amazing-looking brunch menu!!!

We had such a good time here! The DJ was really good, drinks were delicious, and it wasn't too far from our hotel. Definitely will revisit next time I'm in the area!

My boyfriend and I thought it would be fun to revisit our first date spots from 10 years ago. We've known that the Thai restaurant and Gordon Biersch restaurant have been long gone, but we recently noticed that the Rec Room popped up in their places. We went for dinner around 5pm on a Friday. The establishment had just opened, and we were the only guests at the restaurant for quite some time. Despite us having the place to ourselves, the food took a really long time to be served. I had the Rec Room burger, and my boyfriend got the Billionaire Burger. We both thought our burgers weren't particularly special, and we both thought that the buns on our burgers were too dry. I upgraded my side of fries to truffle parmesan, which were very good. The truffle parmesan seasoning had the perfect balance and wasn't overwhelming. I appreciated the unique cut of the fries. They were like thick cut chips.The elote fritters were enjoyable. The cilantro lime cream nicely complimented the hot honey. I ordered the Como La Flor cocktail based on the rave reviews, and it definitely lived up to the hype. I would go as far as say that it's the best cocktail I've had in a very long time. It reminded me of my favorite drink from Singlebarrel called the Cactus Flower.

Heard so much about this place and decided to go for the first time recently. Came here with a group of friends and we did not have a great time. A few in our group were asked to leave rudely for no reason. Security should COMMUNICATE, not accuse and act so hard. There are certain situations where they need to be serious, but this was uncalled for. 1 star for having self serve water available.
