Decided to try a new sushi spot in the Palo Alto area and was pleasantly surprised! We missed the daily happy hour for discounted drinks, but even so, the regular prices were reasonable. We ordered salmon blossom roll which came with a generous serving of rich protein. The salmon here may be the best I've ever had in the Bay Area. We also ordered a sushi plate which came with an assortment of chef-selected nigiri. Some of the options were too exotic for us and we ended up not finishing them but I would recommend if you are the type to enjoy omakase. The waiters were super friendly and attentive - would definetly come back here again.

I'm sorry to say this but I don't recommend coming here. We had come two years back and never returned until recently, but now I remember why:- Food: The food was not good. We ordered a $36 omakase nigiri (12 pieces), three item bento box (teriyaki chicken, don katsu, chicken kaarage - yes for our little kids!), and two rolls. The kaarage was clearly overcooked so much that my kids didn't even want it. Chicken teriyaki and don katsu were not memorable and portions fairly small compared to other places. Sashimi was not good - fish did not seem fresh and in fact a little warm. Rolls were ok. - Prices - This place is not cheap, so I would expect the food to be better and/or portions to be larger!!- Service - The place was completely empty when we got there and for the first 20-30 min so I was a little taken aback that they weren't a little more attentive. Not horrible but waitress definitely seemed like she did not want to be there. Seems more like a takeout option for those not picky but wanting quick Japanese option- Ambiance: Inside is fine, small and intimate. - Other: Parking available in the back.

My friend and I stopped by for dinner. I love that there is parking in the back! The staff members were friendly and our waitress was attentive. There are two bathrooms, and although the restaurant itself is small, there are quite a few tables inside! We split the vegetable tempura, my friend had the sushi platter, and I had the two-item bento box with teriyaki steak and tuna sashimi. The tempura was great! It was crispy, hot, and had a good assortment of vegetables. My friend enjoyed her sushi. My teriyaki steak was good, but the rest of the bento box was not memorable. Neither of us ate the salads that came with our meals because they were drenched in the dressing (the dressing was tasty, but there was just so much of it).

They charge for siracha. They're clearly cutting costs, barely any avocado on my roll, overly sweet, it was called a lava roll but there was nothing spicy about it, it was sweet and brown, nothing looked good or vibrant. Mediocre at best. Much better places within walking distance.

This is a cute little quaint Japanese spot in Menlo Park. They have some cool wall art paintings of octopus and other things. There is street parking, but not too sure if there is a parking lot we didn't see. My boyfriend and I went on a weeknight and it was about half full or so by the time we left around 815pm or so. We sat in the back and there were a few people picking up takeout orders from a back door.So the food - pretty much everything we tried was good. We got the sashimi omakase; I liked most, but some pieces were a bit fishy for me. Their vegetarian pieces is what actually blew my mind. They did not have a serious amount of items to choose from but it was pretty decent. All of the ones we tried were phenomenal!!! I am not even vegetarian or vegan and I loved it!I told the server my allergies, and I believe it was related to the chefs, however, there was an item that made it to my table that I could not eat that I was told I could eat. Luckily, I did not eat it. I told the server I am allergic to chilis of any sort, tomatoes, oranges and anything related to an orange. An item with paprika, a type of chili, made it to my plate. When the server asked "what is that?" referring to the paprika, we had to educate the server what paprika is.

Octopus Japanese Restaurant is a hole in the wall restaurant with an extensive menu, which includes sushi, bento boxes, tempura, soups, specialty rolls, octopus specials, and salads. We showed up to the restaurant without a reservation, but we were seated right away. The restaurant has a cozy vibe. Our server was very nice, attentive, and knowledgeable. My friend and I decided to try their omakase nigiri. There are 3 different options for omakase nigiri-1. 8 pc. for $282. 10 pc. for $323. 12 pc. for $35We both got 12 piece omakase nigiri. This included 12 different fish nigiri-1. Halibut2. Mackerel3. Shrimp4. Yellowtail5. Salmon6. Albacore7. Sea clam8. Sea bass9. Octopus10. Tuna11. Skipjack Tuna12. SquidOur meal started off with complementary miso soup and salad. The miso soup was decent. The omakase was good for the price we paid. It would be unfair to compare it with any premium omakase experience. We were pleasantly surprised by the sizeable portion of fish that crowned each piece of nigiri. With that being said, some of the nigiri smelled very fishy. We had to call our server to enquire about all the different types of fish that we were served. The omakase came with ginger and wasabi on the side. The soy sauce was a bit salty.

Delicious food and good service. It's very dark and mysterious inside. Most people seem to get things To-Go.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! My favorite casual sushi spot in the bay area! Their food is always so fresh and the rolls are so well made! My favorites are the starburst roll, and the JJ's special roll! The place is a bit small and can get busy sometimes and they don't take reservations so be sure to come early! The service is normal, nothing super special. But the sushis are just soooo goood!!

Friends and I walked in to Octopus Japanese for dinner and were really surprised by the quality! It was pretty empty when we visited so I got to talk to the owner and his son and they explained they'd been hit pretty hard during the pandemic. Reporting back that the food here is DELICIOUS and I'm definitely planning to be a regular (already been back and I appreciate that it doesn't break the bank!)My favorites:- Firecracker (spicy salmon, albacore, and tuna on crispy rice! I could eat this every day)- Kraken (it's a roll but the octopus on top was so unique and delicious! I usually don't even like octopus )- Hamachi Carpaccio (always a fav!)- Korokke (Japanese style croquette!)- Chirashi and Unagi-don (generous amounts of fish and super fresh!)- Nigiris (these were the best indicator of the fish quality and I give them a triple thumbs up!)- the Orange Blossom!I would recommend every one of the dishes we ordered! Even the service was lovely and everyone was super sweet! Five stars from me!

Update September 2024: I just stopped my today, and their service was amazing! I love their new staff!!!May/June/July 2024: (2 stars) I have been there 3 times. Each time a got a new server. 2 of the 3 times, the servers were just rude. They asked me to seat myself (totally normal) but it was a good 10 minutes before the chef saw I was waiting on a menu and left his station to get me one. The server completely ignored me. I had to stop them to even put my order in. I would not be mad if they were busy but I did notice other customers who came after me were being seated, given a menu, asking what the want to drink, explaining the menu to them, and even asked which soy sauce they preferred. I hate to say it but the people that were being served was of a different race and age than I was. The staff that were kind and nice to me were the chefs and the older female server. The stars are for them The serve killed the ambience so i took my food to go.
