MoDo Hawaiian BBQ

4 stars for it's potential but honestly 3.5 stars today. Mochiko chicken was giving me hypertension for being too damn salty. Some ppl reviewed that it was too bland so maybe they tweaked it to be more salty. Portion is great. Quality of meat, rice and mac salad is excellent. Less sodium would have been amazing. Keep up the good work!

Tried the Mochiko Chicken plate. It came with rice topped with furikake and generous amount of Mac salad. The chicken reminded me of Filipino Chicken tocino. It had the same sweet, soy sauce saltiness flavor with hint of garlic. They used dark meat which made it not dry. Meat was thoroughly marinated. You can taste the flavor throughout the meat. The outside of the chicken had most of the flavor. Some spots are more caramelized which appeared burnt. Definitely good flavor. The Mac salad was also on the sweeter side and simply. It goes well with the chicken because it does compete with stronger flavor of the chicken; it actually helps mildens the taste of the chicken. I can see the Mochiko chicken served as a musubi.They're drive thru only. Best to order ahead and pick up at derive thru but I didn't have to wait long even though I ended up ordering on site.Good portions so reasonably priced.

DO NOT COME HERE. Got there at opening time along with a bunch of other people. The place is one heck of a mess from outside, pillows, trash on the floor etc just a hot mess. They don't even have the decency to let people who actually wanna try their food let them know it's NOT open despite having open hours. We drove 25 min to try it-pretty pissed.

Drive through, spicy June plate. It was bad. The macaroni salad made me sad, didn't even finish it just threw it away halfway.

I live closeby (10-15min drive) and I came on Saturday around 4pm but was bummed that the chef wasn't there but the staff working there told me that he/she had a really bad stomach pain so it was totally understandable cause we're humans. Came back the following day and the food was amazing and not too salty. they give out a great portion of rice and mac salad so after eating the Meat Jun plate, I was honestly really satisfied, Coming here next time for the Mochiko Chicken Plate. The Spam Musubi size was also on point.

I live near MoDo and saw the banner for the Hawaiian bbq and decided to try it. I got the Mochicko chicken, Meat Jun, and spam musubi. Honestly it was not that great. The only thing that was good about everything was the Mac salad and spam musubi for having a good portion with the rice. The mochiko chicken tasted dry and plain. Not only that it was burnt. The Meat Jun was something I haven't tried before and it was okay, tasted kind of plain as well. I wouldn't crave for it again. Felt like something was missing. Or would taste better with sauce. I've always loved Modo for their mochi doughnuts and pick them over anyone else. I think they should stick to making doughnuts. (Not pictured: the whole meat Jun and spam musubi)

FAKE BUSINESS HOURS - "open" at 12pm Thursday's all lies I stopped well after 12:30 and no personnel. Even the car in front of me had to drive straight through. The interior looks a dam mess like it's still pending a grand opening - mess all around with a contractor walking out with a wooden plank although their sign drive thru says grand opening it's misleading . they only have 3 menu items lol based on reviews I'm glad the store was closed during business hours - I Will stick with L&L thanks!!!!!!

Tried this place once, was delicious. Today tried to go here (thursday at 2 pm) and it was closed. Although it says everywhere it is open. Not sure whats going on.

I expected so much more from this place. I got the meat jun plate via the drive through, which took a bit of time. Not many places offer meat jun, so I was excited. It was only ok. But the mac salad was disgusting and probably on the verge of being spoiled. This was definitely not homemade, and seemed to be bought from smart and final or some other low quality store. Very disappointing. Will not return.

Yesterday, we drive out to San Jose from SSF to give this place a try. Got to the drive thru and was told no food available because cook went home early. Please post signs that says no food available Today so patrons are not waiting in the drive thru lane and maybe also update on IG so followers are aware.
