La Sonorense always reminds me of my childhood as my dad would always stop here to get pan dulce in the area. It's still the only place I like to go for my pan. Obviously early in the morning will get you the best selection but even later in the day, you can still taste the freshness in the bread. There's a large selection of bread and they also have cakes and other hot food plus groceries up in front. The service is always great too! Parking can be a bit difficult but I've always lucked out and found a spot right in front so you just have to time it right.

Arriba La Sonorense

This place is a safety hazard. There are tons of fruit flies on the breads and pastry. Definitely would not go there anymore.

They have the best pan dulce in San Jose CA I'm a native here and I have tried a few bakery's in town but not one has satisfied me like La Sonorense Bakery. As a child my family would buy the pan dulce in this bakery and now I'm taking my son to this bakery and he loves it. Walking inside really takes me back when I was a child.

Bueno! They have fresh coffee in the evening, and the clerk is friendly. I don't speak Spanish, but they were very patient with helping me.

Came here because i wanted some sweet mexican bread. Since its chilly outside what is better than eating pan dulce with coffee. As i approached the store there were a few drunks outside the store. Which seemed a bit unsafe due to Covid-19. People loitering and not wearing masks seems a bit unsafe. Walking in the bakery they had many breads to choose from. I decided to get a pink concha. I only got one bread and it was $1. Seemed a bit expensive since before they were $0.45 cents. When i got home i took a bite out of the bread and it taste like nothing. It had no flavor. Therefore, i give this place a bad review. Bread is expensive. Is tasteless! And i will not be buying any more mexican bread from this location.so, sad!

Not the best I've had, but I love the concept of the place. A little liquor store, bakery and Torta spot. The bread rates 3/5 for me. There isn't a large selection but I did notice lots of breads I hadn't seen elsewhere. With covid, someone stands behind a table and grabs the bread with tongs for you. Once you're done choosing, you grab the tray and go to the register. Simple as that! One stop shop for all your needs.

I've been going to La Sonorense for about 15 years and I always thought their pan dulce here was great. Preferred it over El Rico Pan because I felt it was just as good, and I liked that I could grab the bread myself vs having to tell an employee what I want. I noticed within the last couple of years that some of their bread is stale every time (mainly the conchas). I think they must put out older bread mixed along with the new batches. Total bummer. Especially since they've raised their prices. I payed close to $19 for a dozen pieces the other day. The loitering outside is a problem. It's usually a group of guys drinking. I've never been bothered, but can't say others have or haven't. Not sure if they've tried to do anything about it since they seem to always be there. Other than that, their customer service has always been great and their bolillo bread is amazing. Aside from risking getting a few pieces of stale conchas, La Sonorense is a good pan dulce spot.

Attention about this place that isn't that good as of bakery and not only that if you happen to pay with debit / credit card always ask for receipt since the lady cashier tells you a total and then charges extra 3 to 4 dollars so you don't notice on your bank account. I called, asked why she did that and she was shocked when in person she did not have an answer to say about not handling over the receipt.
