This place is such a hidden gem! The food was absolutely so flavorful. The kategna (their well known appetizer ) is amazing. The service was amazing and our server was so attentive and helpful. Though she was the only one there she gave awesome suggestions and service! The ambience is so amazing every table is set to perfection and its a perfect casual/elevated casual restaurant. My friends have tried other ethiopian places and by far have loved this place the most!

The ambiance here is really nice. Dim lights, very peaceful and clean. Was disappointed with the food. Injera was not fresh, and smaller servings than I remember.A nice experience overall, but don't know if I'd come back!

Kategna Ethiopian Restaurant offers a warm and welcoming dining experience, thanks to its incredibly kind and friendly staff who make you feel right at home. The food was enjoyable, though it leaned a bit on the salty side for my taste. That said, the textures were spot-on, adding a nice balance to the dishes. One standout was their generosity with the injera, which was plentiful and perfectly soft--an essential part of the meal that didn't disappoint. Overall, it's a solid spot for Ethiopian cuisine, made even better by the hospitality. With slight adjustments to seasoning, it could easily become a favorite.

My significant other and I were really in the mood for some authentic Ethiopian cuisine. After trying out a couple of spots in the South Bay area without much luck, we stumbled upon Kategna, and let me tell you, it was like hitting the jackpot! INTERIORCozy and welcoming mom-and-pop shop with a spacious interior.SERVICE There was only one waitress working when we visited on Saturday evening for dinner. She was friendly and efficient, taking care of everything inside the restaurant.FOOD The food was fantastic. We ordered the vegetarian combo platter, which included yesimer wot (red lentil), kik alitcha (chickpeas), gomen wot (collard greens), atakilt wot (cabbage), and a side salad. We also added Ye Bere Tibs (beef cubes) and requested it to be juicy instead of fried. All the dishes were well-seasoned and flavorful. The injera was perfect - thin and not too sour. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

Great experience, great ambiance, cozy Tuesday night! The stand outs to me were the classic Ethiopian chicken dish and the Swai fish - both served with sides on top of their injera breadThis would be a great place to go with a small group , sharing and eating with your hands! We also bought a bag of coffee beans to go, excited to try that out!

Solid Ethiopian place. Enjoyed the vegetarian combo and added an entree. The injera portion was perfect relative to the dishes. Service was fine, restaurant space was ample, and left feeling satisfied. I thought it was a great idea that they had an easily accessible sink for hand-washing, because I definitely needed to wash my hands after diving fully into the meal.

A favorite. Been coming here for more than 10 years. Never too crowded. Thank goodness. They have a few special Ethiopian tables and chairs for the Ethiopian meal and coffee service.Ethiopian beers and honey wine are usually available We started our meal with a vegetarian sambusa, which in India became the Samosa. Dry to my taste but the wife likes it.The wife is vegetarian, but this time we had a friend of hers along who is an omnivore like me so the wife got the vegetarian combo, which is always tasty. Her friend deny had the lamb chunks and chicken chunks along with the red lentil side dish.Generally, all dishes would arrive on a single platter, sitting on a base of Injera breadHowever, because the wife is vegetarian, her combo arrived on a separate platter from ours. Additional pieces of Injera are served so that you can use the bread like naan to take pieces and wrap around your food to place in your mouth or to sop up any stray sauce. Add a shot of Zaya rum to start my meal. They have a small but thoughtfully selected bar. Not enough to make a Negroni however, even though that is an Italian cocktail.I forgot to take a picture of our dishes, since they arrived a little later than the vegetarian combo. However, here is a picture of the vegetarian combo. In addition, if you check their calendar, you may find that some evenings that will be live performances by Ethiopian singers. These are more in the nature of concert nights, not dinner accompaniment.

A really beautiful little place hidden in one of the most bland strip malls imaginable. We went in at an odd time (about 3PM) in the middle of a workday with a storm so there weren't many people in at the time. We were still given great service and really enjoyed the food. We ordered vegetarian; a rarity but something we tend to do with Ethiopian. I would love to go back but it is a ways from home.
