What a great addition to San Carlos! Highlands is a fantastic compliment to San Carlos. It's refreshing to have a casual, community centered restaurant and bar on Laurel, which has unfortunately been filled with overpriced upscale dining for years. Highlands is our new go to spot for games, get togethers with friends, and family nights. Great food and friendly staff! A great addition to the city of good living!

Great selection of beers and great food options to satisfy every taste bud from salads, burgers to sandwiches and soup. Definitely comfort food to satisfy your craving! Also if you want to watch a sports game, they have several tv's throughout the dining and bar areas that one can view anywhere in the restaurant.

Since we live less than a block away, this is one of the main places we watch sports games.Pros:- Lots of TVs, including some booths with individual TVs- Plenty of bathrooms - almost never a line- Many beer options on tap- Large space - can fit a lot of people, which makes for a fun atmosphere on certain game daysCons:- Often out of beer (or espresso martini) that's listed on the menu- Food is hit or miss. The nachos are a good size and decent flavor, and the wings are pretty good. Pizza was more of a grease soup, and the app trio is tiny. - Sometimes they open at different hours than what is listed on their website.

AVOID IF YOU'RE NOT WHITETrust me, I had really high hopes here seeing the big crowd out usually. But boy was I wrong.Maybe I should've known since this business is in San Carlos, CA but the wait staff there are RACIST! Not once did they come to refill our waters. In fact, they were kinda trying to rush us out despite a whole table of white USC/UCLA fans were tended to and taken care of two tables down. The white patrons were tended to and they kept getting their waters topped off. They were also really loud but that's fine it's a sports bar. But my point is, we were not given the same service and the only difference between us and the other tables was our ethnicity. The waiter that took our order kept making side comments about us understanding the menu...My friend had her soup from her French dip taken away before she was even done. They kept delaying giving our drinks despite us being able to physically see the drinks are ready at the bar. They charged us an automatic 22% tip despite only having 5 people in our group (the menu said 6 ppl or more)Overall the staff was rude after they took our orders. Never coming back.

Very nice sports bar located in downtown San Carlos, Ca on Laurel Street. The service was amazing and the food combination was superb sport bar food cuisine. We started with the triple play appetizer which provided potato skins, buffalo wings, mozzarella sticks, side carrots & cucumber, with sour cream & marinara sauce. I followed up with the Smash burger with fries and washed it down with a cookies and cream milkshake. The owner is a hometown hero who spends multiple days a week in the restaurant providing good food, good drinks, and good vibes daily.

Johnny and Bo...thank you! You guys scored better than Green Bay! Great to be back at this sports bar since it's new ownership! Good food, great beer, sporty grill ambience but super service all around! Can't wait to frequent the place again!

Came to Highlands Sports Bar during their soft opening and we really enjoyed it. There's no shortage of high tops, booths, and tables to fill up the space along with MANY screens to show just about everything. Booths even have a smaller screen which could be neat if you need to entertain someone who isn't all about the sports. When it came to food, everything was tasty and very filling!I had the crazy fries and which featured sidewinder fries topped with sauerkraut, finely diced pastrami, green onions and thousand island dressing. Even though it was smaller than a quarter tray in size, it was surprisingly filling. I also took a bite of boyfriend's bbq chicken wrap which was tasty and very hefty. We shared the onion rings too which were tempura battered and panko crusted. They were light, crispy, and sweet! The batter did have a tendency to shatter off but the bits and pieces were still tasty with that nice thick ranch sauce. To wash it down, we tried the away team flight as we both enjoy fruity undertones and I enjoyed most of the flight - even the sours, which I'm usually not a fan of. The menu is still expanding and they expect a full opening in maybe another month, so really looking forward to some repeated experiences - hopefully during big game craziness!

My salad was fine but the kids burger was too rubbery according to my son. So we sent it back for Mac and cheese. He didn't like that either (I tasted it too, no bueno). My daughter also ordered a Mac and cheese and didn't touch it. Can't recommend this spot.
