I've been eating at Chicken N Coop since Moses wore short pants. With the former locations being by my house in Excelsior and one near my high school on Taravel way back when. So coming here is nostalgic, the old school dining area, the 25lb plates that would survive the apocalypse, brown trays to hold all your sides, entrees, and utensils on. It's fallen out of favor with many people thru the years but not with me. I like instant gratification as I watch them carve the protein in front of me and put it on a plate. Scooping and dropping a few sides on my tray. Why would anybody eat fast food when they could get a delicious hearty plate of food from a Hofbrau for the same price? I'll never understand. But here at Chick N Coop, they give solid portions of food. The food is well seasoned. The staff are super friendly veteran employees that know what they are doing. The owner is part of a generation that understood what a Hofbrau style establishment was. Large portioned, quality food, consistent customer service, and enough dining area for a family of eight! I ordered a corned beef sandwich and a roast beef/turkey combo plate with mashed potatoes and Mac n Cheese. Everything was awesome. Once these Hofbrau/carvery style/cafeterias are gone, that will be it. So cherish the times we have eating with family and friends at places like Chick N Coop.

Old school hofbrau on the edge of Daly City with friendly staff. We'd been doing house chores all day and didn't have time to cook anything by the time dinner rolled around. And we were hungry! My husband and I both ordered a full turkey dinner, with mashed potatoes and green beans, accompanied by giant dinner rolls with foil-wrapped pats of butter. It was almost the end of dinner service so no more dark meat for me. Next time we'll try to come earlier. I also ordered a side salad for sharing but I ended up eating it all. I was THAT hungry. We ordered our iced teas from the drinks stand within the restaurant. The restaurant is quite large with interesting decor. Mostly empty on a Sunday evening but we weren't alone. And we did see a few customers order whole chickens to go.

Was still hungry when I left. It was kind of disappointing. If you are dining in, grab a cafeteria tray on the side and tell the lady what you want. I ordered the pastrami dinner plate $17. There was more mash potatoes than pastrami. They should have called it a mash potatoes dinner with a side of pastrami instead. The food tasted fine. The pastrami wasn't overly salty and cooked properly. Usually it might dry out because it is on a heated tray. They do give you some au jus. Service was fine for a cafeteria type restaurant where you pay right after you order. The restaurant was empty at dinner time 6:30pm with some go-to orders. No wait.

I was on the search for comfort food and was delighted to have found this place. I thought they sold chicken sandwiches here because of the business name lol. I'm glad I gave them a try! I ordered the half chicken plate with macaroni and cheese and mash potatoes. Everything was delicious! The roasted chicken was moist, tender and falling off the bone. Macaroni and cheese was a little too creamy; but it did not hit you with the taste of too much cheese. Mash potatoes tasted like real potatoes! Gravy tasted like chicken drippings and was seasoned well. Writing this review makes me want to visit this place again.

Didn't come in expecting much, but the food was more than decent and I felt like it had great value. Parking in the back was easier than the front. Wasn't too busy for a Sunday, staff friendly

Loved it would come back! The ambiance takes us back to the past, owners and servers were excellent. This is a "don't judge a book by its cover". Would recommend and keep coming back. The chicken is a must! Got chicken, rice and corn. Rice was also flavorful. Make sure to let them know what kind of sauce you want, they usually give bbq sauce but if you want normal gravy, just tell them. Also there is an option of having the sauce on top of the chicken or any protein you choose, or place them in the side.

Went to this joint close to closing time, but did not disappoint! I can't believe I walked by this place for about a decade.I got to roast beef dinner, and the roast beef was juicy and tender, and was great with the au jus. Mashed potatoes were really moist and went well with the gravy, and to top it off, the bread that came with my takeout dinner was so soft and fluffy, I wanted more butter with it!When the lady was cutting up the roast beef, I was not expecting much in terms of portion, but I was only able to finish half of what I ordered. It's definitely a great place to stop by for comfort food with no frills. Just a ticket straight to food coma!

This place is a few of it's kind. The first one I've every been to was on Taraval around 2007. Back then, a turkey leg would be $3.50. Not that I'm complaining about the price now cause the size is still waaaaay bigger and tastier than the ones in Disneyland. I normally come out for the roast beef or the turkey leg and never do they disappoint. You get your money's worth all for under $20 which is a steal in SF/DC. Don't mind the aesthetic as the place is a bit dim but the food will more than make up for it. The ladies behind the counter will occasionally hook it up. Try to leave a tip if you can.

Not much to say other than this is GREAT comfort food. Reminds me of when I was a kid and eating with my whole family at the old chick N coop location in sf.

I was craving Europa Hof Brau in Orinda but didn't want to make the trek all the way over there, so we figured it was high time we checked out this place in Daly City. Bottom line is, we'll be coming back for sure. The food was a lot tastier than the other reviews led us to think. Next time, I'll ask for the part of the roast beef that's less cooked since that's what I prefer. The coleslaw was a bit different in that it tasted like sweetened, cooked shredded cabbage. We'll pass on that in the future. But other than that, we enjoyed all the rest of it. My order: roast beef with mashed potatoes, corn, and a side of mac and cheese ... plus a side of extra meat to share ... with everything slathered with jus and gravyBf's order: roast beef, double mash, and Cole slaw The bread was included.Ambiance: very unassuming and relaxed. They share space with a coffee / smoothie place, which takes up half the restaurant. At first glance, it's a bit of a strange pairing but then after some thought it feels kind of symbiotic. I could see myself ordering from there after a hot brau meal next time.Service: friendly and relaxed... what you would expect from a neighborhood hof brau
