I always get my sourdough from California bake shop at farmers markets! I have seen them at the foster city farmers markets as well as a few others. The employees are always super kind and the loaves often go quickly. This photo is from the Tuesday farmers market at the PJCC.

California Bakeshop has become my go-to for delightful baked goods, discovered at local farmers markets across the peninsula. The pain de mie stole the show with its freshness and perfect pairing with Belgian butter--I could easily devour the whole loaf without toasting. What sets them apart is the option to buy smaller portions, making it convenient to indulge in a variety of their delectable offerings. The flexibility to pull apart some loaves or opt for smaller versions of round loafs encourages exploration of their diverse range. The attention to detail and quality is evident, and it's refreshing that the flavors shine even without toasting. And let's talk about their cookies - generously sized at half a pound, each bite is a heavenly experience. California Bakeshop has truly mastered the art of creating baked goods that are not only delicious but also cater to a variety of preferences. I can't recommend them enough for those who appreciate high-quality, flavorful treats.

A hidden little gem that is frequently seen at local farmers markets serving naturally leavened artisan bread, pastries and cookies but also occasionally can be found through the Too Good To Go app.We were fortunate enough to secure and reserve a bag of goodies via Too Good To Go and made our way to pick up the baked goods. The place is a bit hard to find but there are a few small signs that led us to the right place. The staff were friendly despite busy with preparing more goods to be distributed and sold at other locations. If you're able to find them at a farmers market, make sure to check out their wares! You're bound to find some tasty treat or hearty loaves to take home to pair with your morning coffee, tea or other beverage of choice. The breads are tasty and if kept in cool storage, can last a week or two. The loaves we got were delicious (we warmed them up in our toaster oven)! We had a what seemed to be a white milk bread, cranberry Nutella, and a jalapeño cheddar. We were also able to try their scones which are quite big. They're not as crumbly as I like but they're good with some jam or butter.Overall, reliable bakery with innovative creations as well as hearty classics. Perfect for those days when you just need to load up on carbs!

I saw this place on the "too good to go" where I paid $11.67 for $35 of products. So for starters the shop is on the opposite side of the building where the map will take you. This place is very dirty. When I found it and walked in their front area is very cluttered and messy. I rang the bell and was looking around trying to find somebody. When the lady finally came out I showed her my app and she gave me the food that was in the freezer and said that they don't use yeast so it needs to go in the fridge or freezer. I said OK that's fine. I put the breads in the fridge and the next day I went to eat it and I couldn't even cut into it because they were all brick hard. so they must've sat on the shelf for a couple days before they froze them because I literally just threw away my money I had to throw everything away because nothing was soft enough to eat. I did get a couple cookies and it was the same... Very hard. I would never recommend this place.

I was on my way out of the small Farmer's Market at Redwood City Kaiser held on Tuesdays, when we passed by the artisanal bakery tent. I know these types: over-priced baked goods that I really should be making at home myself if I weren't so darn lazy. But, I caught a glimpse of "kalua" empanada. Done. I reheated it at home in the toaster oven for under 5 minutes. The empanada came with a seasoned olive oil dressing that I poured into the open parts of my empanada. It was delicious. It was actually good even without the dressing, but way better with. I'm sorry, I don't have any photos, because I ate it so fast! This was a banger empanada. They had a lot of choices and I 100% cannot afford all of them, but this one empanada, 100% recommend.I recently wrote a review for an empanada shop near UCSF and the owner was a little disappointed, because I said their empanada NOT spectacular and I gave them 3/5 stars. This empanada was spectacular - THIS is what I want - THIS is what should be sold in SF. 5/5 stars, go Redwood City small business!

Tried these guys at the farmers market. They had a huge selection of flavors and everything from cookies to scones to breads to sweet breads to empanadas. Wow.Chose a the bacon cheddar scone. Brought it home and reheated it in the oven. Normal for all scones I've bought and they usually come out better than cold from display box. Let's just say the scone was missing flakiness, the top was flaky then got cakey towards the bottom. Flavor was ok- bacon and cheddar were there- but the flavor was overridden by the denseness.Unfortunate ending but glad I gave them a shot!

I got a bag of bread from the warehouse location through Too Good to Go. I got several loaves of bread and could only guess at what they were. When I got home I sliced up the one that looked like it had fruit and nuts in it and toasted it. My goodness. That was the tastiest bread I have had in a long time. I don't even know what flavor it was. Maybe walnut raisin but in a sourdough background with a faint onion flavor? But it worked. It worked so well. All I could think is that with bread like this, I totally get how humans subsisted on just bread for so long. I'd like to try it myself if I can do it with California Bakeshop bread. Those two slices of toast alone are worth the cost of the Too Good to Go bag.
