Date: Friday. November 8th, 2024Time: around 5:30pm*Banh Mi - Dac Biet - ComboA friend of mine came over and brought some banh mi. I typically get grilled chicken with extra pate, but I think the last time I got a vietnamese sandwich, I got a combination, so he probably remembered that and just ordered the same. I wasn't super hungry when arrived, so I saved the sando for the next day.The sandwich was a good size. A fair amount of meats as well. Tho I think it could have used a little more pate to make for a more melded creamier bite. And maybe even more veggies to add a bit more crunch and tartness. I tend to like a lot of vegetables, so my ratio may not be the preferred one.Pretty good banh mi. And very filing as well.REVIEW #3620

The sandwiches didn't have mayo. Service was ok, I told the lady 2 combos and 1 bbq chicken, she gave me all combo the nem was tasteless, no flavor no good. The only thing that was really good was the coffee but it kept dripping on my shirt and made me look sloppy all day. I think the lid was loose or broken

Four stars for their Banh Khot (crispy Vietnamese cupcakes)$9 for 10 pieces, can't beat that. Most places charge and upwards of $13-$15 for 7 or 8.I tried the shredded chicken with pate banh mi and the egg rolls. The pate is a bit to salty, but the eggrolls are good.Would go back for the banh khot, to go foods, and eggrolls, for sure. Not so much the banh mi.

Independent Vietnamese deli. Popular with the locals for the large bahn mi sandwiches for $7.00. There is a $3.00 version on the bottom right of the menu made from rolls which are about 1/3 the size. Many of their customers are older 60+ who can't eat an entire sw. In a hidden location behind a fence. Very crowded in the weekend morning as people are preparing their picnics for the day. Some things like eggrolls and banana fritter only available on the weekend. They make everything in house, roasted meats, baking bread to keep costs down and portions large. Not Americanized. There is a person in the back who speaks English. Mostly Vietnamese customers who don't speak English. Very authentic The locals who frequent this place aren't Yelp reviewers. They have lunch specials including carmelized catfish and sardines on the table. Limited quantity to cut down on waste. The sardines arent boned, eat the bones with the fish. No Calcium in Asian diet; no dairy products like cheese or milk. Eat fish bones instead. Banana Fritter: unique. No other Vietnamese deli has this. Unknown outside the local Vietnamese community outside of ESan Jose. Banana inside with hollow interior for crunch. I would go here just to try this on the weekend. Not available on the weekday. Egg rolls; closer to homestyle without mostly cabbage. Filling carrots, tree fungus mushrooms, pork and bean thread noodle. This is the closest to home style filling I have seen. Not cost optimized with cabbage. 1$ each. Can buy them frozen and air fry or fry for later. Bahn Mi: large amount of filling inside. hard to finish in 1 sitting. Number 1 is the pork special with 3 types of pork, ham, steamed pork, pate. Very filling. They don't skimp on the fillings. Feels like 1/2-1lb of meat in there. Mayo, cucumber, daikon/carrot standard for bahn mi. Number 2: cha siu roast pork. incredible how much pork there is in here. They put subway to shame. Definitely a foot long sandwich. At least 1lb.

We found this small shop by accident (couldn't find parking spot near the restaurant we planned to go). What a gem. This truly hole in wall. It's next to a supermarket at the far end of a strip mall. We picked up a couple of premade Banh Coun (rice roll) togo (no seating). Oh boy, we are pleasantly surprised. They are good, VERY Good! Tasty and quite a lot of food, I couldn't finish it, but my wife did though. We will definitely come back try other items.

The Dac Biet (combination) and Cha Lua (fancy pork) sandwiches are good, and always safe choices anywhere. The Thịt Nguội (grilled pork in this case) was surprisingly good since included lots of butter. Each is a foot and is filling. The baguettes are fresh but cold (i.e., meant to be taken home and heat or toaster oven?) and side garnishes are packaged separately if you want. At $7 each, they're not cheap relatively, but are still cheaper than regular deli sandwiches. Current promo is B5G1. Opens everyday 7am - 9pm.Note this spot used to be called Banh Mi Baguette (and Saigon's Bakery before that). Friendly people.

I went in to check out the food and deli. The lady was telling me how good the banh canh cua cha ca is and I should buy it. Looks good. Felt bad he was trying to sell it. Went home and something doesn't seem right. I smell the food and it smelled rotten and expired. She was trying to push rotten food to me. I am so upset. I'm all about supporting small businesses. I hope all businesses would smell their food to see if it's still good before selling. I even bought a cha ca sandwich and it was salty. Granted nice ladies but disappointed in the food quality. Never again. I had to toss the food because I don't want my family getting sick before new years!!

I forgot to check in yesterday, and when I tried to check in at Great America after I left, Yelp won't let me. I bought #1 combination bahn mi $7, Tamarind canned drink $1.50, green sticky rice $3.75, and a plate of purple and yellow desserts $5. My parents who were born in Vietnam but ethnically Chinese really raved about the dessert and sticky rice. I don't know what it's called since I was born in San Francisco, but it tasted like mung bean jello but not quite like American jello. I've never seen this before in SF and it was so delicious that my parents said that I should've bought more. The sticky rice here is a larger plate and comes with a box of crunched peanuts, sugar, and salt to sprinkle on it. In SF, it only comes with sugar. It definitely tasted better with the crunched peanut and salt in addition to sugar. The banh mi was also really yummy with the authentic Vietnamese ham and white pork meat. The tamarind drink reminded me of the tamarind candy I ate before, but I'm surprised to see that it's from Thailand instead of Vietnam. The lady was friendly and spoke to me in Cantonese, since she knows both Cantonese and Vietnamese. I'm shy speaking Cantonese since I don't speak it except to my parents and aunt now, but we had a moment of connection when she understood me. I hope to travel to Vietnam for the first time someday, but until then I would love to come to this place and Little Saigon more. Little Saigon in San Jose is so beautiful and clean compared to SF and Seattle.

Loving their banh mi to the point where I bought 2 the next day. Their banh mi is quick, affordable, good portion, and has a nice ratio of bread:meat:veggie (see picture next to a standard kitchen knife for comparison). This place is just an unfussy deli. There is only one table and two chairs, so don't expect for ambiance and table service. But that being said, the service is quick. Most of the food is ready-to-go and some (like the banh mi) are assembled on demand. To me the star is their banh mi. If you're ever in the area and is looking for a quick, cheap lunch, get their banh mi dac biet!

For $10 for 10 pc. This is a pretty good deal around the San Jose area if you want a quick bite. Crispy. Make sure you get it fresh!
