Yank Sing

4 stars for online reservation, validated parking on weekends, overall cleanliness and service.This is not your average Chinese dim sum restaurant, Yank Sing is expensive (my average tab is $120 for 2 people) and the portions are small. Do not expect to get your monies worth. The food is good, and their hot sauce and mustard are excellent.I particularly like Yank Sing for lunch with the family. Because they offer validated parking, it makes the family outings very safe and convenient. There's usually enough time to explore the Ferry Building or nearby places before the parking validation expires.Tip: always book a reservation (online) before coming, otherwise you may experience a long wait time.

Wow. Yelp is basically spot on with the 3.5*. I had a very mixed experience with Yank Sing. Came here on. Sunday around 11:30. There was a nice buzz going and we were able to get seated right away. You have both the option to order off the carts and they have some sort of digital tracking system. And there's a QR code on the table that you can order from and pay -- the food is brought to you when ready. I did a mix of both. The food is delicately portioned and mostly delicious. I am obsessed with the wonton soup, but it came out lukewarm -- I would have liked it hotter. So, why 3*? I'd rate the food 4 - 4.5*. Everything we had was well executed: siu mai, cha siu bao, lotus leaf sticky rice, phoenix shrimp, wonton soup and green beans. It comes to the portions and pricing. The delicate portioning means you can try more items. However, for how much the items are priced, a casual lunch here with the hubs and daughter clocked in at $100. So 2-3* on value averaging to 3-3.5*. Somehow, experience-wise -- if we wanna be going for a $100 lunch, I'm looking for something where the service & ambience feel special and serving temp of food is more on point. I guess I'd say: the pros are* easy to get seated* food is on pointI would come back if I felt like we could be very focused / disciplined in ordering.

If you've ever had dim sum before, I would not recommend Yank Sing. The service was great, and they were overly friendly. The restaurant was very clean and looked nice. I think this is why it's a Bib Gourmand on the Michelin guide. Because the food is not it.I've had dim sum many times, and the food did not live up to anything I've had before. Additionally, the prices are really high for the portion sizes. $15 for 4 egg tarts? Yikes. I thought $12.50 for green beans was very reasonable, then when I got the dish, there were like 10 green beans on the plate. If you've never had dim sum before, I think this would be a great place to start since they are very friendly and willing to explain the entire menu. Plus, you don't know what you're missing.

Great for quick cart service keep in mind we're paying for an experience. Very delicious and authentic tasting selection of dim sum with limited other Chinese dishes. I love the Mandarin dumplings! Pricey but a somewhat elevated casual vibe. The ambiance was good we sat inside & it was cozy and fun bringing back the nostalgia for me as a kid eating dim sum as an outsider. Highly recommend this SF staple. No frills, the service is fast and surprisingly attentive! Will try the other location eventually.

We had a great time at Yank Sing! I went with a group of six, which made it easy to share and enjoy a variety of dishes. The restaurant is more on the elevated side. It would be a great date spot!At Yank Sing, servers walk around with carts filled with different dim sum plates, allowing you to see the dishes before making your selection--a feature we appreciated. They also provide a menu for ordering additional plates, so you have plenty of options.Some of our favorites were the pan-fried pork dumplings, xiao long bao, steamed shrimp dumplings, and the fried rice, which was delicious. Every grain of rice was coated with the perfect amount of oil and the rice was packed with a delicious mix of proteins like sausage and shrimp. The only dish I didn't love was the cold Chinese broccoli, but everything else was great. For dessert, I'd recommend the egg tarts. They're served warm and fresh, and they're the perfect way to end the meal.

Some of the best dim sum I've ever had and some of the worst service I've ever had.The good:All of the food was good and fresh. The only things I didn't like were just a personal taste preference, but everything was made well and had robust flavors. The gyoza is the best I've ever had and I lived in Japan for 10 years. The carts come around often so you'll always have full plates. The restaurant is clean and feels higher end.The not-so-good:They don't bring water unless you ask. Then you have to ask for refills. Also, most of their items are on the carts, but there's a menu where you can order things like beef and chicken dishes. It's maybe a dozen items? Anyway, for some odd reason you have to use a QR code and go to a site where you order and pay for that item. Super convoluted. It also took a long time for the food to arrive. The bad:The service. The cart waiters are very, very quick to leave your table. To give you an idea a gentleman at the table next to us leapt out of his chair to stop the waitress after she turned and left before he was finished. Their English wasn't great and they don't seem to realize that you're still looking at your options. If you mention a dish, for example asking people at your table if they want X, the waiter will put X on the table. There are just a lot of nuances they miss. We paid the tip in cash and there was no thank you or anything like that. Just took the money, turned around, and left.So....if you can handle bad service with really good food then give it a try. I just thought the bad parts really took away from the overall experience. Would I go again? Yes. The food really is that good.

This location feels smaller than their other restaurant near Embarcadero. The dim sum menu isn't as comprehensive, but has all the usual classics. Tasty food and decent portions. Prices are on the higher side but that's normal for San Francisco I guess. The servers speak English decently well so it caters to a different crowd. Also, they accept reservations via open table.

Personal favorite if i am in San Francisco, great place! Love everything. My usual taro puff, soup dumplings, and mochi balls are must order every time.

We got to Yank Sing right as they opened on a reservation and were seated pretty much immediately, and man are they fast! The food-carts have very friendly and patient service for a Dim Sum place, which we really appreciated. They took their time to walk you through everything on each cart and gave you a little sales pitch for what you might like (not pushy at all, just excited for you to try).All the dim sum was very strong, their soup dumplings were great, and it was some of the best chicken feet I've ever had. My wife doesn't eat pork or shrimp, but they had a really nice large menu of veg and chicken -- she got the veg curry dumplings and loved them so much that we got a second order.SF has a lot of great Dim Sum, and this place definitely makes the cut!

Food was amazing, service was so great! Our favorite Dim Sum place in SF and in general!!
