First time here after driving around for a bit and craving pho. Fast service. Beef rib pho is impressive. I would have liked the broth to have a bit more flavor without having to add a huge amount of Sriracha and hoisin. My taste test dish of BBQ Pork Imperial Roll with Vermicelli was very good. All veggies were fresh and not wilted. Will make follow up visits for sure to try the rest of the menu, which has some interesting variety.

Me: "Awwww that pigeon is limping."Also Me: "Mmmmm, this squab IS delicious!"Since opening in April 2022, Viet Quan has been a popular staple in Parkside because it's the only phở spot on Taraval. Co-owner and chef is Chinese but raised in Vietnam and formerly owned Quán Ngon on Noriega. It wasn't on my list to try until my nail tech was raving that Viet Quan is the place to go for their chef specialties and off-the-menu items (and not the usual Viet items).Viet Quan is open for takeout and indoor dining only. You can order ahead on their website.Visited on a weekday at opening time so no wait but I heard there's usually one during peak hours. M E N UVietnamese Cuisine - usual staples: apps (chả giò) phở, bún (cold vermicelli noodles), and rice plates. Call to inquire about off-the-menu specials. Complimentary hot tea served. F O O D* French-Style Squab w/ raisin + onion sauce ($26.95): https://tinyurl.com/2u6vb54rA chef-specialty, the squab is marinated overnight (soy-based) and fried to order. The cookery was on-point with a crispy skin and juicy dark meat (nicely rendered and not oily). The breast was tender, not dry. Squab tastes like duck with a slight gamey flavor. While the raisins and onions added sweetness, I wasn't too crazy about it. The marinated squab was good on its own with the accompanying tangy lime and pepper dipping sauce. * Cơm Đỏ: Tomato Rice ($4.50)Usually love Viet tomato rice but this one didn't have much tomato-ey flavor. S E R V I C ECordial and prompt staff but don't expect check-ins. Raise your hand if you need something.A M B I A N C ELow-key with gold basket pendant lighting and colorful paper parasols hanging from the ceiling. There's 12 tables.P A R K I N GStreet parking is a little bit easier since the L Taraval Project was completed last fall. Still can be a challenge tho. Overall, great to see a pandemic born business thriving in Parkside. Def worth trekking to Viet Quan to try their chef specialties!

I'm on a mission to try a few bookmarked spots to find new local favorites. Viet Quan is close to the ocean on Taraval, and they offer a small cash discount. Nice ladies run this local spot. In truth, their grilled pork vermicelli and egg roll at $18, was a just okay rendition with super thin grilled pork missing that char and caramelization that can make this dish, and vermicelli with a barely fish-sauce tasting sauce. The egg roll was delicious. For me, this simple dish is a staple that I appreciate for the quality of its limited ingredients: the quality of the charred grilled meat, the freshness and level of the veg, and the flavor. Here it was unfortunately bland.I did see a customer eating a fun, enormous French bone marrow dish (Henry VIII sized) which looked promising, but a dish like this depends on the quality of the bread and marrow, and given other favorite Vietnamese restaurants, I don't know if we'd return to try it.

Food was good. I got the rice and bbq pork plate. It was very filling. They brought out the food real quick. I really liked that they gave you hot tea for free because you usually have to pay for it. Plenty of seating.

Came here on a Sunday night and actually found parking close by. It's right on the corner of 28th and Taraval so that was a surprise. Had a friend sign in while I got parking so sat immediately. Ordered the bun rieu and the filet mignon cubes, or I guess they call it French style meat here. I don't often see that at viet restaurants so I was interested to try. Bun rieu I might not get again, the fried tofu was way too fried and dry and the crab meat just okay. Good broth! Still I suppose a solid choice but I don't think it's their stronger dish. Filet mignon cubes and tomato rice were good though and would recommend it. I do wish the pieces were cut a little smaller as it was more rectangular and less bite size. Still, decent flavor and texture and would recommend. One thing I do wish is if they wouldn't serve boiling hot tea out of a flimsy plastic pitcher, which probably isn't meant for warm let alone hot liquids (does it really cost much more to get a non-plastic pitcher? After seeing my boiling hot refill poured I did not drink another..), and also if the utensils were slightly cleaner.

There were around 20 people here on a rainy and cold Wednesday night. We were seated immediately and had many items to choose from on the menu. We felt a bit rushed ordering and were given special items slightly pushed at us without us asking, but nevertheless they had wide selection of Vietnamese/Chinese food. Our group ordered the Hanoi Fried Rice, the Crab Meat & Tomato Rice Noodle Soup (think it's supposed to be Bun Rieu), and Five Spice Chicken & Egg Roll with Vermicelli. The proportion for the Hanoi Fried Rice was generous and was quite yummy; we had enough for leftovers for a couple of meals. The soup could have been more favorable in my opinion. The vermicelli dish was also good, but I wish there was a greater portion of protein and meat compared to vegetables.Overall, I would like to visit this place again and give the other dishes a try.

This is a very nice addition to Taraval St, especially since this neighborhood gets so much chill from the ocean. We need more hearty, warming restaurants like this! Echoing what other reviews have said, the portion is generous, and the beef was tender and well-prepared, but the flavor was a smidge underwhelming. We got the #1 pho, the bone marrow appetizer (which came with some bread and a small salad), and the shrimp spring rolls. Everything was pretty decent, and the bone marrow was a highlight (I'll definitely come back for this). But the pho was missing a bit of authenticity, in that the broth wasn't flavorful enough. They also offer flat rice noodle as an option. Portion was good! The decor was nice, though the space was a bit too quiet before more customers showed up, like a party that hasn't warmed up yet. Some music or movies would've been nice. There were these giant TVs that were turned off, so that felt like a missed opportunity.Overall, I personally feel like the food was a bit... Americanized? It's still good, and I do plan to return. I really enjoyed the bone marrow and the tender beef, and I'm hopeful the pho will get even better. I think there's lots of potential here!
