Food was good, hot, fresh. Ambience is definitely there for like, hole in the wall diner... which is the vibe for this neighborhood. Kind of secluded from most other food places in the area, so definitely go in if you're hungry and you see it open. Prices change depending on price paid for the food they have to prepare, so prices have escalated significantly since even January 1st, 2025 -- thank the RIGHT people for those increases, don't yell at the business owners! They didn't make your food cost $20 a burger, and French Fries $7 a basket.

There's a special place in my heart for local diners. V Cafe serves burgers, cheese steaks, sandwiches and salads. Missing are brunch egg dishes, French toast, milkshakes, pancakes and waffles. My bacon cheeseburger w/garlic fries $16.50 was OK. It was a 1/3 pound patty, kind of dry. The meat was cooked correctly. There wasn't enough garlic taste in the garlic fries. Service was OK for an order at the counter establishment. The kitchen was fast.

The steak sandwich was huge. Honestly it could've been 2 meals for me, which isn't bad for $20 pre tax. The steak was super soft and easy to bite through. The waffle fries are great. You pay and order at the counter. They brought the food to the table. Love the variety of hot sauce they have at the back of the store. The staff are hard working. Not friendly but not mean. I've been here multiple times and never left unhappy.

I have been coming to V's cafe for years and it is a staple in the SOMA community. They are most popular for their cheese steaks. However, I love ordering their burgers. Their fries are soooo good just eating that makes me happy. The service is fairly quick if no one is there but it can get busy for lunch. There is plenty of seating and a small booth with stools to enjoy your meal.

Ate here last Saturday night after a night of bar hopping. The staff were so nice and welcoming, didn't mind that we were more than a little bit tipsy to be honest. My friend had the cheeseburger and paid for an order of garlic fries for me and my boyfriend to share. The fries were hot, crispy, and doused in garlic; if you're a fan of garlic it's a must! Can't stress enough how patient and kind the staff were that night, would love to visit again next time I'm in SF!

It's an ok cheesesteak that just needs 20% more beef to really hit that bread/filling ratio correctly. The beef could be cut more thinly too, to really nail that texture. Wouldn't go out of my way to come here but it's not a bad option if you work nearby.
