Awesome as usual. They now take credit cards. I was surprised to find out my date was vegan. She missed out on wonderful meat. This is a San Francisco institution with Metallica history.

Maybe I came in with too high expectations. Being around since 1947 would make me think that this old school Hofbrau has the food game down pat. Looking at the daily specials and the regular offerings, I just knew Tommy's would be great. But it was a solid just ok and pricey. I ordered:Lamb Shank: this was a nice piece of lamb shank in a gravy with nicely cooked potatoes and carrots but something was missing about it. Just didn't satisfy like it should.Side of spaghetti: the sauce was ok at best. Bland actually. I hate to go hard on them but I wouldn't order it again.Corned Beef Sandwich: this was ok at best too. Bread wasn't fresh. Really plain and the corned beef was about as tender as beef jerky. I really wanted to like Tommy's, but after a Hofbrau tour around the Bay Area, unfortunately this one comes in at the bottom of the totem pole for Hofbrau's.

Tommy's Joint in San Francisco is a historic restaurant that has been in business since 1947, known for its Hofbrau-style comfort food. Their menu features dishes like mashed potatoes, brisket, corned beef hash, spaghetti and meatballs, ribs, and pastrami. Unfortunately, my experience here was not good. I ordered a pastrami sandwich on white bread with mustard and cheese. The pastrami was cut far too thick, cold, and lacked flavor. The bread was stiff and chewy and the mashed potatoes were equally bland and cold.I also tried the brisket plate, which came with a side of mashed potatoes and a salad. The brisket was chewy and cold, the barbecue sauce was had an odd taste, and the mashed potatoes were the same bland disappointment. The salad was poorly prepared, with a dressing that tasted like mayonnaise rather than ranch.Lastly, I sampled the spaghetti and meatballs. The dish was a letdown as well. The noodles were mushy from sitting in water too long, and while the meatballs had slightly more flavor, it wasn't enough to redeem the plate.Overall, the food was consistently cold, bland, and poorly prepared. If you're looking for a hot meal with and with flavor, Tommy's Joint is not the place. Despite its long-standing history, my visit earned it only .

I hate feeling ripped off, especially on Thanksgiving, but it happens at Tommy's. I was there with my mom and we ordered two dishes - a full plate of the turkey and ham ($39) and the a turkey leg ($10). At the cashier, it turned out to be $74 ($84 with tip, which was dumb of me to do, but it was Thanksgiving). I actually mentioned to the cashier that the price was wrong, but he said it's counted as two full plates. As the line was crazy long behind me, I ended up giving in. But now that I'm looking at the online menu, the turkey leg itself is only $10 and I was right. I feel ripped off big time.Update in response to the manager response: we did not get two full dinner plates - we got one dinner plate (with two sides)($34.95 + $5) and a turkey leg (with one side) ($10). How does that add up to $75 and a good value? Seriously was a rip off and am planning on complaining to my credit card company for the overcharge.

Fast, friendly, good food, reasonable, and full bar. Easy to get here by foot, or bus. Parking is tight. Parking lots or go after rush hour for better parking or look for a parking garage. Nostalgic, old school charm of being here for over 50 years. Very cool to sit there and enjoy the interior.

If you're looking for a true San Francisco institution that serves up comfort food with a side of nostalgia, look no further than Tommy's Joynt. This place is a no-frills, old-school gem that has been dishing out hearty meals for decades, and it never disappoints.Let's talk about the spaghetti and meatballs--wow! The meatballs are generously sized, perfectly seasoned, and smothered in a rich, flavorful marinara sauce that tastes like it's been simmering for hours. Paired with perfectly cooked spaghetti, it's a dish that hits all the right notes. Comfort food at its finest! But the real star of the show for me was the brisket. Tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor, this brisket is everything you want it to be. The smoky, savory goodness melts in your mouth, and the portion sizes are generous enough to satisfy even the heartiest appetite. Whether you're a brisket connoisseur or just someone who appreciates a well-cooked meal, this dish is a must-try.Tommy's Joynt has that classic diner feel, with a no-nonsense vibe and a menu packed with comfort food staples. The prices are reasonable, the portions are huge, and the food is consistently delicious. It's the kind of place that feels like home, where you can always count on a satisfying meal.Rating this place with 4 stars because the service can be better. Sometimes they seem like they don't want to be there. Whether you're a local or just passing through, make sure to stop by Tommy's Joynt for a taste of San Francisco history. You won't leave hungry, and you'll definitely be planning your next visit before you even walk out the door!

Tried and true, Tommy's Joynt is one of my favorite casual restaurants in San Francisco. They have huge portions. I love going on Saturdays for their pork spare ribs with rice! I also enjoy their beef burgundy with rice. They let me substitute spaghetti for their rice. Spaghetti with that burgundy sauce on top? So yum! For drinkers, they have the largest selection of imported beers. I want to try Monday's oxtail with noodles. I'm usually too full to have a side dish or dessert, but they look good too. Come for the relaxed friendly atmosphere and good stick to your bones comfort food!

I had take out here so I cannot speak for the dine in experience which honestly does seem like a vibeWent for a signature tommys sandwich, meat of choice was brisket.Honestly the brisket was well cooked! The only downside is that there was not much added flavour. Flavour comes from the mayo and mustard, though I had to add my own hot sauce to make me feel somethingThe let down here was the bread, solid enough to not get soggy BUT you know you bite into bread and see that white stuff inside and think to yourself is this shit stale? Unfortunately this was that, hard to chew and get through

When you step into this place you are transported back in time. Back to a time where they carve meet right in your face and ask you if you want gravy on top of it. That's a dumb question (with all due respect) of course I want gravy. Tommy's is like if thanksgiving was a restaurant. Except if it was all good and your Aunt Willis didn't bring terrible potato salad and you didn't have to pretend you liked dry turkey. Tommy's Serves up hefty portions at a reasonable price. This is a no frills situation. What you see is what you get. It's classic American food. It's salty and delicious. I got the BBQ beef, baked beans, stuffing and a corned beef sandwich. There was no pastrami that day and I would have caused a scene if not for the corned beef. Make sure you add sauerkraut and mustard/mayo. Very good sandwich. The BBQ was good. Some of it was a little dry but make sure you got a little BBQ sauce for the top and bottom of that portion. Stuffing was fantastic and the beans were beans. Overall Tommy's is legendary and it's timeless. Like literally I doubt the insides of that place have changed in 40 years. It's a cool dive my type bar as well. It's a little treasure that's hidden in plain site on one of the busiest streets in SF. Tommy, you keep doing you. Never change. (4.5 Stars)

Yes to Tommy's Joynt! An almost late night pastrami and swiss sandwich was excellent and the meatball sandwich looked great too. I wouldn't hesitate to drop by if I was in the area. I wouldn't get their Thanksgiving day take away special though. It's solid, but I'm just not a turkey day traditionalist.
