This is my absolutely favorite bakery in SF! Not only is it reasonably priced but everything is so well baked / cooked! They have warm sandwiches and can warm up any of the baked goods too.THE BLUEBERRY SCONES Are my all-time favorite but they sometimes run out in the mornings so you have to get there early. They have an amazing variety of pastries and breads with seasonal ones each time. Just to note - they do NOT have ice so they can't make you an iced coffee or anything. The vibe is lowkey and they have the funniest signs outside and always have some fun display in the window. PS. There is a really cute patio in the back! Service is always good - they're very attentive and ready to help you. :)HIGHLY RECOMMEND

As a loyal customer for years, I've always appreciated this bakery's wonderful pastry selection, delicious lunch options, and the inviting back patio. Unfortunately, my recent experience left me disappointed. I purchased pastries through the Too Good To Go app, only to find that they were a day old. This was a noticeable decline in quality compared to other SF bakeries on the app, which provide same-day surplus pastries.I value transparency and consistent quality, even for surplus items, and feel this experience missed the mark. I'm sharing this experience with all my friends and not going back. Other bakeries have been above impressive on TGTG app!

Thorough bread is my favorite bakery in San Francisco. At the time of writing, you can get their freshly baked sourdough batard for less than some grocery store loaves. This is my workhorse loaf, an evenly airy and soft crumb with a delightful crispy crust.Though I usually just stop in to grab my bread for the week, their cafe seating is nice too. In the warmer months I order their ham and cheese baguette sandwich and watch the birds hop around, looking for leftover crumbs.I have yet to find a bakery in this part of SF that matches Thorough bread's value and quality. And on top of that, the staff make bread sculptures and dioramas for every season and holiday! Where else are you gonna find a giant bread skeleton??

I wanted to love this place... I really believed in them when they won 3rd Best Croissant in SF in 2023. I cowork a lot around this part of Church St and I am very dissatisfied with the amount of bakeries nearby for a sweet treat. Everytime I've come here, the service has been so welcoming and caring but the items themselves have left a lot to be desired...Their plain and orange croissants were not bad but I was not amazed at all. It felt like they were both missing something - like it just wasn't buttery or flaky enough and the orange flavoring tasted a little strange.I also was tempted by their olive fougasse & challah breads - both were a little too hard and I want to say stale but they definitely were made that morning. I really want to love this space because the decor is so fun and inviting and tongue-in-cheek and it's a nice space to sit and relax right near Market St. I would be willing to try again - maybe I just keep getting items that are not their best items.

I got a cappuccino here and appreciated the service because the employee brought my coffee with whole milk but immediately realized that he was supposed to get me oat milk as soon as he saw me . I was more-so impressed by how he forgot and then instantly remembered. The coffee was yummy! And the back patio area is so cute and cozy.

This place will forever be my favorite! Every time I bring friends here, they instantly fall in love with the fresh bakery, the warm and welcoming staff, the charming and cozy patio, and the lively, inviting atmosphere. I tased almost everything. Also they serve soup and sandwiches which is great option to stop by for lunch time

The apple almond croissant was light and flaky filled with a warm cinnamon apple puree and topped with a strudel crisp. Tastes like a lighter version of apple pie. Pairs perfectly with an unsweetened coffee or latte to offset the sweetness. 10/10 recommendWent in shortly after they opened and there was no line and service was fast. Would be a good place to sit and do some work or read for a bit.

Such a cute spot, it's perfect to get some work done and sit outside enjoying the birds. The service was as expected when ordering at the counter. We got a complimentary croissant since they rung us up for a loaf of bread they ended up not having. We also got a refund so it really wasn't a big deal. The sandwich was also really tasty but kind of bland, it just needs some sauce on it

The pastries are really good and it's a great spot for a nice coffee shop read. I really like the orange chocolate almond croissant. They have a back patio which is the best over the summer. Highly recommend. Nice and local . Only downside is they don't have WiFi but if you bring your hotspot you should be good.

Hands down the best croissants in San Francisco. This city is full of overpriced bakeries and cafes charging 6+$ for croissants that barely surpass a crummy grocery store bakery. Thorough Bread is both more reasonably priced, and on par with the quality I'd expect in France.
