Be careful! Watch your account after you leave. They changed a $6 tip into $60, without approval. This has to be a crime

Cool dive bar. Stiff drinks. VERY MINIMAL BEER selection and it is a $20 minimum on credit cards. However, they do have a cash machine so it's not a problem. Grab cash or have at least $20 worth of booze. Fee bowls of chips & pork rinds! Great jukebox!

Came in for a quick drink before I headed to my usual spot. Real mom and pop spot. Cheap drinks only downer is I seen bugs crawling on the bar when ordering my drink. I left immediately. They also have pool tables.

Colorful regulars. Sports on the TVs. A pool table. There's some surprisingly cute midcentury decor. Service is friendly. Prices are ok.

I am a native San Franciscan and have been drinking at this bar for over twenty years. This place is like a second home and I love it.I drank here while working at City Hall. I drank here after army deployments. I drank here between tours in Afghanistan and Pakistan. I drank here to celebrate my birthday. I drank here to celebrate my divorce. This is NOT a place to come and demand HiSo (high society) service while getting your ego stroked. This is one of the last unpretentious, down-to-earth bars left in San Francisco where you can stroll in at 3PM, shout at the bartender for a cheap beer and bourbon shot, crank Van Halen on the juke box, and drink your sorrows away or watch shitty college ball on the idiot box. This place deserves five stars because it's a San Francisco institution, a place where an honest, hardworking, wage-earning man can get simple, cheap drinks without having to suffer through a menu of overpriced cocktails with unnecessarily exotic ingredients that no one will remember imbibing. If this place ever closes down, it will take a piece of my native San Franciscan heart with it, and I will die just a little bit more.

I'll have to come back again to get the real deal of what's up in this bar, but I'm guessing it's your usual mix of interesting folks from all walks of a fucked up life that all congregate at this surprisingly clean bar for pool and other shenanigans, if you catch my drift.

This place is more of a 2 and a 1/2 stars. And it's not that I didn't have a good time here. I did.But that was largely due to the fact that I was with a lovalicious group of buzzed, weary Santas.Taking a break from the red and white packed bars on Polk Street - during Santacon - we wondered into the Outsider. The space was dark and empty and - the crowd - eclectic. We grabbed some seats, kicked back, and made friends with the jukebox. With holiday songs in full swing - we couldn't help, but notice the eccentric Outsider crowd - who appear all too familiar with this place. From the casual pool hustler, to the guy who repeatedly used the women's room (despite the men's room being free) and always left the door unlocked, to the dazed bleary eyed regulars nursing their drinks at the bar. To the smokers in the corner. The Outsider is bizarre. There's something off about the place. And usually I embrace the different - but there's something about the Outsider - that doesn't feel right, and that only works - if you're with a solid group of people.I appreciate that there are plenty of seats and room in the place. I appreciate that their bathroom is clean enough. That they have a pool table. I especially appreciated that they didn't mind when we brought in egg nog to make festive toasts. But I don't see myself coming back here. There are definitely far more charm and character filled bars in the hood to end or begin your night here. Trust.

Drinks, people, pool, people, ambiance , pool, people. Awesome all around. Although across the street from my fav , The Outsider is a different experience. Much stronger Latino ( or Latinx if that's your word) influence in a Korean owned bar, the style , tempo and temperature of the game here at Outsider has a slightly different flavor which this author absolutely loves. When I cross Geary I've left the comfort of BOS District 5 and Nob Loin and am now arguably on Nob Hill. Either way I really enjoy playing at Outsider and as a Spanish language learner and lover of all things Latin, I am as happy as a Pig in a Mud Puddle here at outsider.
