This hidden little gem is a great find! The women running this establishment are so very good at what they do! Personality above & beyond! It is dark inside. Quite eclectic. Bar was well stocked. Drinks were clean & delicious. A tad pricey to me.But by far, the star of the experience is the food! Thank goodness, right? Since it is a restaurant :)My absolute favs: fried chicken; Brussel sprouts; the butter served w/their delicious (but too small) corn muffins & their cranberry jam!We are going back for more fried chicken (maybe the bucket) & to try their blackened sole and buttermilk biscuits. We also enjoyed their Beignets. Which were fried perfectly. Their margarita was really great, but $14 seemed high for location/establishment.Our friend really enjoyed his full loaded impossible burger. No one cared for the chocolate bread pudding. It was the only miss, out of a lot of ordered dishes. We look forward to going back.Go, enjoy this absolutely casual, fun eatery!

Happened on THE FRONT PORCH while getting ice cream around the corner from Mitchell's on San Jose Avenue. TFP offers Southern cuisine in the Bernal Heights area. What caught my eye was Its quirky surroundings, both outside and inside. Then the menu...FRIED CHICKEN!!! Host and waitstaff are friendly and great with questions re: menu. Nightly dinner from 5:30PM-9:30PM. Brunch offered Saturday & Sunday from 9AM-2:30PM. I've not yet tried their famous brunch because it's simply so popular, brimming with people waiting to get in. ONE DAY... Thank goodness they offer their famous FRIED CHICKEN - both CHICKEN & WAFFLES and a 10-piece bucket for dinner as well. TFP's fried chicken is moist, crisp,well-seasoned with herbs, and one of the most delicious fried chicken I've had! Here's the kicker - it's a cornmeal-coated fried chicken! You have got to get this 4-piece dinner plate, Chicken & Waffles or 10-piece bucket!Ordered:ARUGULA SALAD - honey crisp apples, rojas family farms pomegranate, fugu persimmons, nueskes bacon lardons, smoked pumpkin seeds & sherry vinaigrette. Passed on Option to add blackened shrimp or chicken. Very fresh, green salad that whet my appetite for what was to come. BUTTERMILK BRINED CALAMARI w/ Zatarains aioli. Love calamari and this was nicely crunchy on the outside with tender calamari inside. Good starter!FRIED CHICKEN 4-PIECE DINNER - features Rocky Jr. free range chicken, garlic mashed potatoes , braised ham hock collards. The cornmeal fried chicken did not disappoint! Crispy, hot and flavorful with its seasoning! Very happy they offer it in a bucket. The potatoes and collards were a good accompaniment to the fried chicken. A must plate of yum!BLACKENED WEST COAST SOLE w/black eyed pea hoppin' john, sautéed spinach & beurre blanc. While this dish was equally as good, well-seasoned and tasty, cannot get past the fried chicken! I'd return again to try their GULF SHRIMP & GRITS, VEGAN HATCH CHILI JAMBALAYA, or GUMBO W/CHICKEN. The standing order is the FRIED CHICKEN plate or bucket!

Cozy restaurant and incredibly friendly staff with strong faith in their menu. We ordered 3 appetizers (not pictured), which were the beer battered pickles, fried okra, and fried calamari. All 3 were hot, crunchy, and perfectly sharable sized before the star of the dinner. While I feel they are on the saltier side, they are still really good. We were a group of 5 so we got 2 buckets of fried chicken, a side of truffle baked Mac and cheese, garlic mash potatoes, cornbread bites, and fries. The garlic mashed potatoes were fine. It was warm and savory. The fries were ok. The Mac and cheese came piping hot in an iron skillet, bubbling with gooey melted cheese. The flavor was mellow with a hint of truffle and the noodles were soft. The corn bread bites were delicious. Freshly baked and fluffy, the tiny muffin tops were crispy and delicately crumbly. The butter served was sweet and perfectly accompanied the corn bread which was one of best I've had in a long time. Now the fried chicken. These were fried to order so it takes a little time for them to cook. The chicken were crispy crunchy on the outside and juicy within. The seasoning flavor was on point. There were 3 hot sauces on the table and we requested the dips that came with our appetitizers for the chicken.I noticed each piece of chicken was normal sized with light breading (not KFC super sized chicken, thick with fried batter). Also most of the bones (ribs, spine, cartilage) have already been removed by the restaurant, which made it easy to eat. The bones that remain are the large ones like drumstick, wings, thigh bones.Definitely highly recommend this place if you are looking for southern comfort food that is fresh, made with care, and served by staff that just love their offerings.

Service is great, would recommend over and over. Ambiance is cozy neighborhood vibe. The shrimp and grits were amazing, can't remember the last time I finished a meal and licked the plate clean. I miss good southern food out in San Francisco. Can't wait to come here again. The eggs benedict were good too, maple sausage could have been a bit better but I hate to devolve from how good the shrimp and grits were! Good cocktails and bar vibe as well. Can't wait to try a dinner here next!

The Front Porch is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I've been coming here since 2016 to celebrate different occasions and it has never disappointed. Have always loved the vibe and the relaxing feeling that comes with the southern comfort food as well. The fact that they take reservations on Yelp is just the cherry on top. We ordered fried okra, gumbo, mac & cheese, piece fried chicken and beignets. Everything was delicious, as per usual, and everyone was so nice. Special shout out to Alan - such an awesome person! Friendly, funny and charming are all words that I'd use to describe Alan. Thanks for a great experience! Will always recommend and return!

Food was ok. Fried chicken plate 8/10. Mac n cheese 5/10, flavor/seasoning could be better. Short rib dish 7/10. Our waiter was a gem tho 10/10, very attentive & helpful when ordering. The ambiance is definitely a cute date night since the restaurant is small & intimen. However, their menu was intriguing & I'd go back to try other things on their menu.

Amazing brunch and dinner spot!!As a southerner, I will say the food is amazing, hearty, and made with love. Your eyes are bigger than your stomach so you might have leftovers. The fried chicken is sensational and crispy! I am such a fan of the brunch as well. I will be back on a foggy day for biscuits (homemade jam), and fried chicken with their house hot sauce!

The ambience at this place was really cute and the service was great too. The food was just alright though. I got the fried chicken and waffle. Unfortunately the chicken just really fell short. It was overcooked and lacked flavor. The batter on the chicken was thin, crumbly and way too packed. The dense-ness of the chicken meant you can't really cut into both the chicken and the waffle without crushing the waffle underneath.

It was easy to make a reservation for a party of 6. During the morning of our reservation, we called to ask for the reservation to be pushed back half an hour. The host was understanding and able to accommodate the unexpected circumstances. Overall, the service was great. The interior is cozy and rustic, also dark so it was definitely a vibe! Very casual too. | f o o d | We ordered beignets and fried okra to share with the table. Both were yummy starters for sharing. I order the stoner stack - I do not recommend for the weak. The sausage gravy was pretty yummy, and the biscuit was denser than I'd like. The house potatoes were really good though. Overall, really solid! I can only speak on my own dish, but my friends ordered the fried chicken and waffles, shrimp po' boy, and sausage eggs benedict. I did try a bite of the chicken and waffles - chicken was fried well, waffle was fluffy!FYI: food does take a while to come out so be prepared to wait a bit.*Note: when receiving the bill, I noticed a large party service charge of 20% which I understand. However, there was no mention of this charge prior to receiving the bill! No mention of it while making the reservation either.| t l ; d r | Friendly service and solid southern food!
