I had the best cheeseburger here at the Cove! We walked in the night before thanksgiving and it was a quiet night. We had the sweetest server, Estella. She was kind, genuine and gave amazing service. Thank you Estella for your kindness! We definitely appreciate these old coffee shops with great food!

The Cove has some of the friendliest people working there, everyone is just so nice. The Cove is a classic diner serving all the things you'd expect. Whether you go for breakfast or lunch, you'll find something that makes you feel happy. I'm a fan of the tuna melt, as well as the 2-2-2 breakfast (2 eggs, 2 pancakes or french toast, 2 sausage or bacon), and a half carafe of mimosa. Affordable, cute and has outside seating.

So we wanting a good breakfast before our hike up to twin peaks. This place is great!! Very welcoming and cozy. Our server was so sweet and nice. I got the bagel breakfast sandwich with bacon. It also came with some yummy hashbrowns. I got very little portion. My husband got his go to, steak and eggs. All was delicious. I can't wait to come back.

Nothing fancy just yummy classic breakfast options. Had the biscuits and gravy and the carnivore scramble. They even split it up on two plates for us!

Since I started working in the Castro District back in 2022...I discovered this restaurant because I work next door to this place. What I love about this restaurant are the people who serve our community in this fine establishment plus their "Comfort Food Menu" (that's my opinion)...you will partake in food that is simple but delicious. My favorite dishes vary from their Turkey dinner entree (when I want Thanksgiving dinner year round), Irish Eggs Benedict, Large order of Fried Cauliflower with Bleu Cheese dressing, and any of their slice of fruit pies (cherry is my favorite), their burgers, salads, soups & sandwiches are all good options as well. Their menu items change every week and I get to try different things every time I go to this restaurant. I myself like to try different kinds of dishes from this restaurant because it's not boring. So if you're a local, a World Traveler, or someone traveling Domestically my suggestion would be to try The Cove on Castro Cafe and tell 'em that Russell from next door sent you in to taste their comfort foods menu! And stop by next door to say Hi to Russell!!!

Wonderful spot in the heart of the Castro, particularly for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Large, so easy to get a seat. Some of the waitstaff have been here since the early 90s, and they are simply wonderful! Food is tasty. Prices are fair. Throwback feel with good tunes inside; nice parklet for outdoor eating. Bravo.

Came here on Wednesday before Thanksgiving because I was craving some Turkey. Sat down and it took over 20 minutes for me to be served. I didn't make a big scene or anything, but yea, it wasn't great. I ordered the open faced Turkey sandwich and it was fine, thus the 3 stars. Ambiance was typical diner dive Americana. I don't know if i will come back to this place given the slow service, mediocre food, and astronomical prices (bill was 32 bucks. A lil insane.)I support small businesses in the Castro, but yea, it feels a bit racist when all the other patrons, all white, get served before me.

I have loved this restaurant since it was called the Norse Cove in 1970.I don't know what's going on with the way in which business is being conducted and I will say as a business consultant I don't know how they are managing to keep the doors open. Today, I ordered a Belgium Waffle for $13.95. WTH? It's flour, egg and milk. My friend talked me into ordering the waffle. To accompany it with PURE Maple Syrup an extra $3.45. OMG! $17.40! Okay ... it is what it is. The waffle arrives. It is NOT a Belgium Waffle. It is a waffle made on a regular waffle iron and they're telling me it's a true Belgium Waffle and made in a Belgium Waffle iron. UMMMM. NO WAY JOSE. Not to mention Belgium Waffles are crispy on the outside (the server tried to blow that off by telling me it hadn't been cooked long enough to make it crispy on the outside. UMMMM, again, NO WAY JOSE. I also ordered two pieces of sausage for $3.95 and the sausage was delicious. After requesting a glass of water with no ice, I took a pill and drank some of the water to swallow the pill. Dear Jesus! You have got to be kidding me ... there was a piece of grated carrot at the bottom of the mug.My friend was unhappy with his breakfast: Vegetarian Omelet with Tofu. He said the hash browns were burnt (one can taste the "burnt") and he didn't like the omelet. This is a guy who has been frequenting this place for about 50 years. I kindly told the lady my experience. She apologized profusely and was very nice. I walked away from the conversation knowing "Nothing is going to change. It's all about making profit these days. The cook is in his own world. The kitchen is filthy. I really don't get how they pass Health Inspections, the health department really must not care. There is no way the bathroom and the kitchen can receive an "A" from an inspection."I have been a server for several years when I was young. Even then I knew how to take care of customers whom were unhappy, so they became happy. Occasionally, I would comp a meal ... which should have happened with the Belgium Waffle. And that water ... God help us all.Lastly, the photo of the toast at the top of this page: My friend's toast looked like it had never made it to the toaster. Come on, people!!!This is my personal observation and experience. YIKES!!!

It was old fashioned like the 1970s-1980s. Almost a good setting for a movie. I love when you stand outside of a restaurant anticipating your visit. It's homey. I ordered two pancakes and two eggs and then the orange juice made my meal overpriced at $24. The service was good. In the Castro.

Very convenient location in the heart of the Castro. No matter what you order, it's not going to break the bank. Though at the same time, you'd probably expect to pay less for the same food at a diner in Any Town USA. Seems to have a loyal old timer crowd, which gives it more of the diner atmosphere. Wouldn't recommend this place for foodies though, but I could see other folks digging the vibe.Meatloaf: Pretty standard diner fare. The meatloaf was indeed quite loaf-y, so it had a decent amount of mix-in in addition to the ground beef. A little dry though, but the generous amount of gravy helped mitigate that. The mashed potatoes were adequate. A little mix of veggies on the side, which veered way too heavy on cauliflower for my tastes. Kinda feels like what you get at any old diner across the USA. But in San Francisco, with so many foodie destinations, it feels a bit meh for the price.Iced Tea: Not sweetened by default, but the server had some simple syrup in reserve. With a generous pour of that, it starts tasting very much like Southern sweet tea. Comes with a carafe in reserve, so you don't have to wait for refills.
