Updated review. It's been a few months since my initial visit. The restaurant is quite crowded today. I'm glad they are getting more business. The good took a bit longer to come out but the server did disclose that before we ordered. Some changes I noticed are increased menu offerings as well as some price changes. Previously there wasn't really any pork options but now they do. The Eggplant Teppan costs a dollar more now but the cost of the potstickers went down a little bit. BTW, the potstickers were delicious. Lots of crispy surface area! Also, an improvement I noticed was the temperature of the spicy pot. It was nice and hot this time, which I really like. Flavor is still amazing. This place is great option if you want to chat and catch up with friends over Chinese street snacks and small eats. The atmosphere is warm and food is delicious!

This was my first time coming to this particular Chinese restaurant and I was surprised to find out I could get at least three dishes!! Sadly, I'm allergic to MSG/mono sodium glucosamine! Yes, I am Japanese/Hapa and allergic to my own cultures food! So frustrating! Get the broth for the soup. Here was delicious as well as the extra perk of having three different types of noodle options!!This particular place actually has homemade noodles and that's what my family got! The noodles were so long and soft!! They were delicious!! I really want to come back and try the shrimp and dumpling as long as they don't have MSG. My family really enjoyed the Beef Noodle soup and it comes with wontons as well as the ribeye soup! My nephews loved the beef pancake, and it smelled delicious! The lady that served us was really sweet and realized we were a larger family of eight and asked another customer already dining on one side of the table if she could move to the other side so that we could all sit together. The other Customer was so sweet and moved over. The hostess and a chef came up from the front to move around the tables and connect two of the wooden tables as one long bench style table, so everybody could fit! Very sweet and I love the ambience! Very simple, clean and smelled like my in-laws kitchen!! We are all fans of this restaurant and can't wait to come back again!!

I have been missing Chinese street food, so am very glad to have found this place. Most of the Chinese food in the Bay Area is Cantonese, so it's not easy to find good western or eastern Chinese food. The dishes here are from Chengdu (western Chinese) and Shanghai (eastern Chinese). Although each dish is served on little plates, they are pretty filling. It's almost like having Chinese tapas here. I'm not going to call it "dimsum" because that's a Cantonese term. Here is a list of what we ordered...and we loved *everything*!* Golden buns: deep-fried dough dipped in sweetened condensed milk* Beef pancake rolls: beef with five-spice powder is sandwiched between thick sesame pancake rolls and fried; you will notice a subtle sweet flavor which is from a classic sweet bean sauce used in Shanghai* Pan-fried dumplings: they are a little different than the traditional potstickers in that they have open ends* Braised beef noodle soup: you can choose between thin or wide noodles, and the broth is very flavorful* Lamb skewers: the seasoning reminds me of the cumin lamb skewers I had in the Middle East* Chicken wings skewers: first time seeing chicken *wings* on a menu, and they were crispy and flavorfulThe staff is very attentive, especially with food allergens. This is not something that I have encountered at most Chinese restaurants. The food came out pretty quickly too.If you still don't have enough reasons to come here, let me leave you with this. There is a hilarious sign above the toilet in the bathroom that you should check out. ;)

Nice to find a skewer place in the Richmond that is open late.Taste of Old Street has cozy seating and family owned with good prices. It's not the best skewer place I've had but it's decent for an option in the area

The soup base tastes good, I even had a few sip. I gave four star mostly because it's not a very good value considering the portion. Got 20 skewers for $26 (pre-tax), but each of them is tiny I also wish that they had de-veined the shrimp.May try other items on the menu next time, the old Chengdu skewers look popular since I saw it on other tables, and it sounds the way how it's cooked is healthier than average, it was mentioned that there is a pan between the skewers and the when it's cooked.Service is good. There was only one person running between table and cashier, she was busy but pretty nice.

Solid four out of five. The store is a little bit small, it can sit around 20 people. We went on a Saturday night and there was no wait. The food was delicious. We got a pork belly skewer and beef ribs as our protein. The seasoning was amazing. The beef ribs were pretty tender and shredded. However, the portion size was quite small. We had to order an additional garlic noodle to add on. The garlic noodle is fire though. I like how chewy the noodles were and how garlicky the dishes was.

Always enjoy food on sticks. They serve Chengdu style food which is something I'm not familiar with, but I have eaten some similar dishes in other restaurants. This is a small restaurant but feels very comfortable and familial. Let's talk about the dishes we like.Smashed Cucumber - refreshing and delicious.Beef Pancake Rolls - delicious! My husband's favorite since Dong Bei Mama closed down.Old Chengdu Spicy Pot - I love how this looks but I personally prefer skewers.Pan fried dumplings - it's basically potstickers. Okay.Black Fungus Salad - Found this to be too salty, otherwise it's good.Dan Dan dry noodles (requested non spicy) - although delicious, found it to be different from other Dan Dan noodles we tried. Is this more authentic? Also very skimpy on meat.Skewers (different ones) - I enjoy these the most! Very satisfying to eat!Service friendly although my first dine in experience we encountered a payment issue with my Visa CC. They said they can't use it for some strange reason and requested that we paid using another method. Good thing I had cash on me. Second visit I just use cash to avoid repeat problem. But I use the same Visa CC elsewhere and no issue, so not sure why they had problems.

Authentic place for Chengdu food. Came here on a week night and it wasn't too busy. Just one waiter but service was good. The skewers were cooked perfectly - not too much meat on each stick but the flavor was solid. The beef pancake rolls were also good, similar to what you would get at most northern Chinese places. Highly recommend the black fungus dish! The inside is a bit small but cozy. Good place for this type of food in the area and I would come back.

I honestly really wanted to love this place and was debating whether to give 3 or 4 stars, but decided to still go with 3 as a very honest review. The food was decent, but nothing special in my opinion (and wasn't particularly cheap?), and portion size wasn't very big. We ordered the cold pot, which we thought was customizable (since there were slots on the menu), but after we had selected everything on the menu, our server told us that the cold pot wasn't customizable and came with a default selection of items. The default selection of items was pretty interesting, as they had throat thrown in there which I feel like is a pretty hit or miss for people.Overall I think it's a decent place, not bad, but personally I think you could find chinese food for cheaper and better

Came on Sunday morning around 11:30 PM and there was no wait. Parking can be a little difficult to find. Waitress was attentive and refilled our tea multiple times. Medium amount of seating inside My thoughts of the items is below. Beef pancake - delicious, would be better with some sauceBeef skewer - meh, small pieces Pork belly skewer - meh, nothing special Pork intestine skewer - yes, must tryDan dan noodle - it's okBbq ribs teppan - it's okOverall, it's cool place to try but easy to rack up a high bill if you are ordering a lot of skewers.
