Food: 5/5Service: 5/5Ambiance: 5/5Been looking for a classic British style HK food other than Venus Cafe, Top Cafe which I feel have gone down a bit. This is a newly relocated restaurant and the decor is so unique, fun and clean.Their pork chop rice, spaghetti bolognese, hainan chicken rice are delicious! It's great value for the price and the service is kind and accommodating. Definitely would come back often!!

We were excited to try this place, but it didn't quite meet all our expectations. Food: 1. Baked chicken with white cream sauce over spaghetti ($15.95) - this was the best dish. The melted cheese blended well with the sauce and the chicken was easy to cut and tender. 2. Baked ham and cheese with tomato sauce over spaghetti ($15.95) - this was not good. The red sauce was very disappointing and bland. I would not recommend this. 3. Rice roll with hoisin and peanut sauce ($8.75) - this was great and comes in a generous size. 4. Hot milk tea ($4.95) - yum! This comes in the iconic hk style milk tea cup. 5. Red bean iced drink ($7.25) - also really good! But a little pricey. Service: It was a little slow. Both main dishes came before the appetizer and we saw our drink sit on the counter with a few servers passing it without touching it. Ambiance: Typical Hong Kong cafe, which I love. Parking: There's a free 2 hour small parking lot to the side of the restaurant. Overall, everything was still good aside from the tomato sauce dish. We'd come back to try other items if we're in the area.

I've been missing HK cafes so I hit Yelp to find a place in the peninsula. Sunshine HK Cafe seemed promising so my friend and I came here on a rainy Sunday. There was a bit of a wait since it was lunchtime but nothing too bad. The interior was spacious and seems good for big parties as well. It is located pretty close to the San Carlos Caltrain station so that is convenient. There is parking around as well.Sweet Condensed Milk & Peanut Butter Toast (3.5/5): You can't go wrong with a sweet toast. I was expecting the bread to be a little fluffier but still good.Chicken Curry (4/5): I usually order a chicken curry over rice when I go to HK cafes. It could've been a little bit more spicy but still good. It was nice and hearty.Fish Fillet (4/5): We ordered this with the creamy corn sauce. They gave a good amount of sauce on top of the fish. We chose spaghetti but probably should've just done the rice. The fish was meaty. It had a good flavor and wasn't too salty or anything. It went well with the creamy corn sauce. I'll probably try the fish cutlet next time too.I am glad I found this place! I will definitely be back to try other items. The service was wonderful and attentive.

I grew up in HK and ate many many HK foods for the past decades. Here's my honest review about Sunshine HK cafe in San Carlos:Curry brisket rice (3.5/5) - the taste of curry is on the spicier side and it doesn't taste/look like the curry dishes you find in HK. It's also lacking a hint of coconut flavor that it should.Baked Pork Chop rice (3/5) - the pork chop is on the chewy side which is disappointing. Portion is on the smaller side and it's pricier comparing to other HK cafe in the Bay Area. Do not recommend.HK milk tea (4.5/5) - It's pretty authentic. Taste like home for me. I'll come back for their milk tea.Service (3/5) - IDK if it's just me but I always expect Cantonese-speaking staff working at a HK cafe. None of the staff on the floor speak Cantonese nor they smile at you and greet you. Yes, they get the job done, but I don't feel like home coming here as a customer originated from HK.Given the price point, I wish they offer some sort of lunch set meals that include a basic small beverage like milk tea, coffee or lemon tea. If you're the business owner and you see this review, feel free to DM me for further insights of my experience! I want to love this restaurant but currently I do not.

I haven't had HK style food in quite a long time. Ever since I stumbled on this place on Yelp a couple months ago, I've been having cravings for this style of cuisine.Me and my friend decided to order their special 4 set menu to-go. This essentially consists of a chicken and rice over Portuguese sauce, baked pork chop w/ cheese and tomato sauce over rice, Bolognese sauce baked with cheese over spaghetti, and lastly garlic and pepper fried chicken wings. We thought that everything was okay as an entire meal. The Bolognese over spaghetti and baked pork chop over rice were our favorites out of the set. Good flavor, the sauces were fine, and it tasted pretty good. The Portuguese sauce over rice was alright; it didn't have that much flavor to it but it was just okay. But I felt like the chicken wings were a disappointment. The wings were kinda burnt; it didn't have that golden texture/crispy that I usually look for in wings and my friend felt like they reused old oil instead to fry the wings. They definitely didn't taste fresh. That was our biggest caveat with the four dishes as a whole. I personally thought that the food was pretty underwhelming for HK style food. But having a restaurant here in San Carlos is probably the best you would get if you're in this city. I liked the bolognese spaghetti and the baked pork chop was pretty good. Those would be the two items that I would personally order again if I were to come back. But you could definitely better places more north in the Bay Area.

Sunshine Cafe is a welcome departure from the typical Mediterranean and American fare that line the street of Laurel Ave with its comforting hong kong cuisine. Having arrived on a Wednesday around 1130 I was able to snag one of the last 2 tables before the lunch rush. I ordered the fish filet with corn sauce over fried rice. Although the fish and sauce were delightfully comforting, the fried rice lacked wok hei. As we turn our attention to the milk tea, it was a good size, without having too much ice either. The flavor was well balanced for my taste. Service here is very utilitarian as you order through the app and your food comes. I felt the wait to be a bit lengthy for this dish, but it could be due to the timing of my arrival. After tax and tip I felt this to be pricey, but not inappropriate for the area.

Fun cafe, cute Hong Kong style decoration inside. Ordered the baked spaghetti bolognese (my favorite at any HK cafe) and the bbq (cha shiu) over rice. Baked spaghetti 5/5: great taste, and good amount of cheese, you can actually taste some meat and tomatoes which at most HK cafes you can't (it's usually like tomato paste and starch), so this is a win Bbq over rice 3/5: the cha shiu was ok but they literally POuRED a clear sugar syrup on the plate before putting on the veggies, rice and cha shiu. Like the rice was sooo sweet and dunked in this clear sugar syrup it's like you're eating dessert rice? And the vegetables were so sweet from being on this sugar syrup. The bbq itself was good, but again, also sweet. I think it would be SO much better if they skipped the sugar syrup. Or perhaps they accidentally spilled a drink on our plate?!?!Appreciate the complimentary borscht soup. Come early, fills up quickly during lunch (though we did come on a holiday week day)

Delicious Hong Kong cafe tucked away in downtown San Carlos. We came on a Saturday for lunch and it was super busy. There aren't many tables so you should expect a wait or do take out.You order online but the service can be a little on the slow side and water is self serve.Salt and pepper chicken wings 5/5These were crispy and juicy and had the perfect amount of seasoning. It was hard to stop eating them.Rice rolls 4/5Crispy and chewy. I wish the sauces were on the side so we could control how much for each bite.Fish and beef ball noodle soup 4/5This was standard Chinese style noodle soup. The broth was clean and the noodles were so comforting. Can't go wrong with classic noodle soup.Would love to come back and try the combo! Wish there was more seating however.

A great no frills HK cafe that has pretty good food! You order from a QR code and the water/utensils are self serve. My favorites were the curry fishballs, Rice Roll with Hoisin and Peanut Sauce, salt and pepper chicken wings, and the baked pork chop with egg rice and the baked ham spaghetti. The minced beef with egg over rice was different than the classic I am used to but it was still good, just more tomato-y. This type of food is pretty hard to find nowadays in the peninsula, so I'm excited to come back and try some more items!Overall the service was very friendly and parking was pretty easy too. There is limited seating, so you probably want to get there early to avoid a wait.

Finally, a Hong Kong cafe is in the area! I came with some friends for a gathering, and we were excited to try it. The food was amazing! Tender beef tongue over fried rice, flavorful Hainan chicken, and a great variety of dishes... everything was delicious. Definitely coming back to try more!
