This maybe our 3-4x in the last 2.5 months... They have a few rice plates and noodle soup options. Appetizers are available. We ordered their Hainan Chicken Combo: one with ramen, other with flat rice noodles. Their chicken broth was flavorful. Seriously, there is no need for additional condiments but we like our soups a bit spicy. Chicken is served cold with a side of peanuts and oil scallions. The staffs are friendly, service was quick and neat.Ambience was a bit loud, but not crowded yet, we got there slightly before the dinner rush. Waiting wasn't long at all previous times as well.

Small restaurant that gets pretty packed during dinner time. The main dish they advertise is their hainan chicken rice plate which tasted pretty good. The chicken is cold and I loved the pickled veggies on the side. I also tried their laksa broth udon noodles. The broth tastes exactly like the liquid from Hong Kong curry fish balls. As for the tentacles, they were pretty generous with the serving size. The flavor is on the saltier side and the tentacles are decent quality.

Used to be called 9 Noodle House, not sure why Yelp allowed them to keep the obsolete old reviews.Special Hainan Chicken is a restaurant specializing in guess what? This China based transplant has locations in San Leandro and Cupertino. A friend liked it so we gave it a try.Safety Pluses - Online menu, Delivery services available, online ordering. Food Review:Signature Hainan Chicken Over Rice ($14.95) is their signature dish. The chicken is decent and goes well with the garlic sauce mixture. The rice doesn't have a lot of flavor. Small wood ear mushrooms, cucumber salad. Simple, almost home cooking. A good value although we could have used more chicken. 8/10Special Hainan Chicken Combo ($12.95) with Flat rice noodles and Laksa broth is also a great value. Almost like have 2 different dishes in one. The Laksa broth noodles are vegetarian! 8.5/10Choy Sum in Supreme Broth ($9.99) is a Chiu Chow Appetizer. Nicely done in a solid broth. 8/10Overall - Very GoodFood - Very GoodDecor - Very GoodService - Very GoodValue - ExcellentWould we come back - Yes

Came here for the Hainan Chicken but upon being seated was told that they ran out of chicken. :( Since we had already waited 45 min for a table, we needed to eat so explored other items on the menu.1. Beef brisket noodle Soup - the broth was more clear and the brisket wasn't as soft as other beef noodle soups I've had. Some parts were more chewier and thicker than I usually like. Wouldn't order it again. For beef noodle soup in the area, Yuanbao Jiaozi is my go-to in the Peninsula.2. Brined Duck over rice - this was tasty however it was annoying to need to bite around the bones. Would love it if they were able to cut just the meat like some places do for Hainan chicken. Meat was tasty and wasn't gamey. Would have liked it to be served with garlic rice -- wonder if that's something I can ask for in the future.Ambiance was crowded when I arrived but it was bustling and cleared out toward the end of the night. The staff did a great job checking in to make sure we had what we needed and was very patient with a toddler (so, yes this is family friendly!). Would come back again to check out the Hainan chicken -- hopefully they don't run out!

Special hainan chicken is the same folks as before (9 noodle house). They have a variety of noodle soups and small dishes to share. Outdoor seating was still there, which is nice as they allow furry babies there. They now joined the special hainan chicken chain and carries the marinated duck - which was one of my fav dishes. Then marinated braised fried tofu was delicious too. Generally all is decent, though all was a tad salty for me. Will return for a quick meal. Total: $25/person

I came here before it became Special Hainan Chicken, when it was 9 Noodle House. I liked it back then, and I like it even more now. There are more seats now, and their menu expanded a little. They offer a good price on Hainan Chicken and the chicken itself is glossy and tender paired with good ginger scallion oil. The original soup broth was also good, it's light and tasty, with a sweet chicken flavor. I also got to try to Laksa soup broth which I thought was underwhelming. It tasted like watered down coconut milk with chili oil. It was quite bland in flavor. The other soup broth I got to try was the Tomato. It wasn't bad, but it tasted like a soupy ketchup. So far I would just stick with the original soup broth and add their chili oil to it, which is really great nice! Their chili oil has a nice texture and good amounts of spice and flavor to it. Their appetizers are very good. I personally like their salt n pepper chicken cartilage, very crunchy, fried very well. Flavor is good too. Their Fried shrimp cakes are also good, paired well with sweet chili sauce, crunch and good shrimp flavor. But their fried shrimp balls were really good. It's about 60% fish paste and 40% large shrimp in the balls. Fried really well and each bite you get a nice taste of shrimp, and it's not too salty.

About a year ago, I had the unforgettable experience of savoring the best Hainanese chicken rice in Singapore, and I've been thinking about it ever since.Last night, my in-laws took me to a spot they recommended, and while I won't say it's comparable to the one in Singapore, it was pretty impressive in its own right. The rice was fluffy with a delicate hint of coconut, pairing with the tender chicken. One standout addition was the cucumber and wood ear mushroom salad which was refreshing and delicious. The dish also came with a bowl of chicken broth, which turned out to be the best I've had. Every sip was pure comfort.Overall, this was an excellent take on a classic dish. I'd definitely come back for another round.

I stumbled upon this spot from Yelp while waiting for a tire repair in the area. Interestingly, I'd been here before when it was a different noodle spot. The updated interior is sleek and clean, making for a pleasant casual dining experience. Service was the no frills type, efficient and to the point. I ordered the Special Hainan Chicken combo which comes with noodle soup and Hainan chicken. They let me substitute the tiny rice noodles for the knife cut. The food arrived quickly (7 minutes). The 20-hour chicken broth was incredibly comforting especially on this chilly rainy day. The knife-cut noodles were slightly overcooked but still retained a nice chewiness. The Hainan chicken was flavorful, paired perfectly with the scallion sauce and crunchy salted peanuts. Chicken portion was generous. If I weren't so hungry, I would have had leftovers. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Definitely will be back to try other dishes.

Hainan chicken - lots of flavor, massive amount of chicken rice, and enjoyed their pickled wood ear mushroom and cucumbers. I also appreciate the soup included. Wish there was a little bit more chicken as the rice portion was so big but otherwise a very satisfying meal.

I came across Special Hainan Chicken and had to check it out! A fairly, new spot in Millbrae serving Hainanese Chicken and soup noodles. Their prices looked reasonable and the food pics looked good! The place was clean and decor is like a Hong Kong-style cafe.It was a Friday afternoon around 12:15 and there was a waitlist! When I signed up, we were #6. But this line went quickly and we were seated within 15 minutes. We got our order in after a 5-minute look at the menu. Then in 10-15 minutes, we got our food! Quick service!***OUR PICKS***BRAISED BEEF STEW AND BEEF TENDONS (appetizer/side) ~ A nice portion of tender beef stew and soft tendons! We enjoyed this and added it to the soup noodles that went with the chicken combo dish. 4/5SPECIAL HAINAN CHICKEN COMBO ~ Rice noodles in original broth, with a quarter portion of Hainan chicken with green onion sauce and roasted peanuts. I chose the flat rice noodles and kept the original broth. You get a large bowl of noodle soup and a side of chicken for $13! What an awesome deal! The chicken was tender and the noodles were fresh, slurpable, and silky. Though the broth was a bit sweeter than expected, it was still good. The sweetness may be from boiling it for 20 hrs. 4.5/5CHOICE OF NOODLES: *Thin rice *Fish *Knife cut *Vermicelli *Udon *Flat rice *Instant CHOICE OF BROTH: *Original special chicken broth boiled for 20 hrs *Laksa *Tom yum *Chiu Chow Soup*Tomato PORK KNUCKLE OVER RICE ~ Braised pork knuckle, served over a bed of freshly steamed rice, and seasonal vegetables with original broth. We got about 5 pork knuckles with a side of pickled ginger, smashed cucumbers, and wood ear mushrooms. It was tasty and good! Love the chewy texture! 4/53 plates fed the 3 of us. We were quite full and could have possibly saved some, but took it all down! I can't say it's the best we've ever tasted, but it was certainly good and satisfying. And the bill was only $30 (not including tip), because we chose a few discounted dishes. If we're in the neighborhood craving Hainanese Chicken, we'll be sure to stop by again!
