The only proper Thai place I have found in SF so far. The popup restaurant is only on Monday nights at 272 Claremont Blvd. the rest of the time, they have a ghost kitchen at the address with not sit down meal.

Thai food is sometimes a hit or miss, in the Bay Area. Thankfully Sowl Bowls brings true authenticity to the flavor palette of Thai cuisine. The dishes are a blend of home cooking with modern finishes! The staff and service is amazing and you can tell they put their customers first! The interior is super warm and cozy, perfect for date night or catching up with friends. Highly recommend!

I've gotten the 7pc spicy wontons (only 4 is my picture because they are so delicious I forgot to take a pic first) from their stand at the Stonestown Sunday farmer's market 2 weekends in a row. They are SO delicious - very generous amounts of tasty filling & the sauce is almost drinkable. The crispy shallots on top add a great texture. Averagely priced at $11.95/7pc, the service at the pop up is super fast & the woman working the cashier has always been friendly!

I am ecstatic to say, Sowl Bowl is still up and around and is still providing folks in the neighborhood great Thai dishes. Now, they've added new items to their menu.Their bowls are solid as ever and the party platter is golden. Most folks at work rave about the garlic noodles (and they're not wrong) but their garlic fried rice is my starch of choice. I'm also a big fan of the pork and always ask for the green and brown sauce which you later combine to form Voltron (that doesn't work because Voltron is composed of five lions and two things combining would really be more like a character fusion in Dragon Ball or maybe Wonder Twins powers activating? twins analogy would kinda be flawed too.). Forget Voltron. But do mix the brown and green sauces. Now for the new menu items:Gyozas are a hit. Love the presentation. It showcases perfectly pan fried gyozas. More importantly, I can taste the care and the preparation with each bite.Spicy wontons are a must try. The wontons are bite sized morsels of goodness. But the way they layer an initial sweet which yields to hints of vinegar and then finishes with just a touch of spice will leave you wanting more. Thanks Sowl Bowl.See you soon.

In today's installment of 6th Street adventures, my co-worker and I saw a woman who kept telling the five-o that she was "ok" as she excitedly tore her hose to expose that it was a jungle down there! Whoa.Ok, not what we were expecting. Poor rookie cop didn't know which way to look. Sorry buddy, I didn't know either. If you can look past the grittiness of 6th Street, you will be rewarded with an array of small mom and pop businesses serving delicious AND cheap food....Formerly Split Pea Seduction, Sowl Bowls is a new fast-casual eatery serving Thai Street Food: BYO Bowl ($10.95), Sticky Rice Burgers ($7.75-$8.75), and Beef Sate ($8.50). For the BYO bowls:* Base: White Rice, Brown Rice, Garlic Rice, or Garlic Noodles* Protein: Thai Marinated Pork, Roast Chicken Short Ribs, or Garlic Tofu (they allow half/half mixes)* Sauce: Thai Style Eastern Sauce, Spicy Sour Sauce, or Spicy MayoYelp check-in deal: FREE Thai iced tea (which I forgot to check-in until after I left)! It's not on the menu but I highly recommend grabbing a co-worker (or two) so you can order the "Party Combo". For just $22.75, you get a sample of everything: Thai Marinated Pork, Roast Chicken Short Ribs, Garlic Rice, Garlic Noodles, Sticky Rice, and Salad: https://bit.ly/2SwzbVd. The spread feeds three people. (+) Everything was SO delicious!!! -- All the proteins were properly cooked (tender and moist) and very flavorful. -- The Thai Style Eastern Sauce (tamarind) and Spicy Sour Sauce (cilantro based) were packed with complex flavors. -- The garlic noodles were thick, chewy, and super garlicky. Many places can't seem to get garlic noodles right with not enough garlic. Your breath will be humming afterwards (in a good way). -- The garlic rice was also very good and beats most pinoy versions. -- The sticky rice was warm, sticky, and shiny. (+) Excellent value! The Party Combo works out to be about $7.50 pp which is incredibly cheap for SF. You can't even get one slice of toast at the new Tartine location for that price. (+) Everything is served in compostable bowls and trays with compostable utensils and cups for water. (+) Great service from the owner-couple (?). As we were eating, one of the owners came by to make sure we were enjoying the food and to ask for feedback. No negatives. My only feedback is to forgo the spicy mayo and add a Thai chili pepper sauce. It's a small space with just 10 counter seats so it's more of a to-go place. Overall, fantastic new fast-casual Thai eatery on 6th Street serving cheap and delicious food with a smile. If Sowl Bowl was located in the FiDi, they would have a line out of the door. These guys need more love than they're currently getting. If you work in the area, definitely give Sowl Bowls a try!

Golly, I didn't even know Split Pea Seduction, well...split. They survived on one of the most intense blocks in the city for over a decade, but the owners apparently left to raise their children in a nicer environment. Sixth Street isn't a nice environment? Somebody call the papers. Now another young couple from Bangkok have taken over, and recognizing this country's strange and rather enduring proclivity toward meal bowls, they opened this spot in its place right across the street from the tinier Falafelland (review: http://bit.ly/2ToIk2r). It's a multicultural oasis. Tear down the wall, Mr. President, and build safer walkways around here. But I digress. The menu consists of Chipotle-style bowl combinations, a beef satay (sate), and something called sticky rice burgers which I presume to be the Thai response to ramen burgers. I stuck with the bowl selections and was asked what "carb" I wanted. Look at me. What carb do you think I want? So I asked him if he could make a bed of salad instead, and he happily complied. What I got was the $10.95 Roast Chicken Bowl with veggies and "sauce", and it was quite delicious with the portion more than generous (photo http://bit.ly/33sOVNI). I treated myself to a $3 Thai Iced Tea (photo: http://bit.ly/33qQV9l). Not tooth-achingly sweet. Neither are the owners. Nice couple. They deserve your business.FOOD - 4 stars...hearty bowls of meaty goodness with a salad option if you askAMBIANCE - 4 stars...not much seating but nice compared to what's outside SERVICE - 4.5 stars...like I said, a nice couple TOTAL - 4 stars...Sowl food...with a 'w'RELATED - Stressed out on Sixth Street? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: http://bit.ly/2NNz312

Came to this new place based on a Yelp search and friend recommendation. This place is more Thai fusion. They call themselves "street food" but not entirely. While the menu is limited, either a bowl or a sticky rice sandwich and satay beef sticks (5). The pricing was reasonable, $10.95 for the bowl and under $9 for the sticky rice sandwich and/or beef sticks.I ordered the build your own bowl as did my friend and we were both pretty impressed. I also wanted to order the satay beef sticks, but they didn't have any on this visit. I decided on getting the bowl with the Thai marinated pork with garlic rice. It was served with a side stir fried assorted veggies and topped with undressed greens (salad). There were 3 sauces to choose from, but for our meal, we chose the traditional spicy tamarind sauce and spicy cilantro. The garlic rice had good flavor as did the garlic noodles. The pork was good, some fatty pieces too. I topped my bowl with the tamarind sauce, even on the greens and it was nice with a slight spicy kick.I was pleased with my meal and I sure hope they do well. Definitely worth a return visit!Note: If you do a Yelp! check in, you get a free Thai ice tea. Also, if you can't decide on your protein, if you ask, they can give you a combo of the pork and chicken.
