I've only had this item here. I'm sure their BBQ is very tasty. But we are talking about a pretty important fusion here. We are doing Bao and BBQ fusion? This should be a bigger deal. It's a unique and delicious item. I'll come back and try other things. But this Bao's need to get you in the door. (4.7 Stars)

Went to come here and check it out over the past weekend the Bao is really good there's a spicy one and non spicy which both are really good I personally like the spicy one.Total came out to about 18 bucks for two baos which is really good pricing especially how filling it was.Service here is very fast ambiance is a small restaurant but very easy to read menu make sure you come early as they do sell out of items.

I've tried a good variety of BBQ places around the Bay Area, but nothing beats Smokin D's TBH. It's funny because my husband actually saw a YouTube short of this place and really wanted to go. At first, I didn't believe him when he told me the name of this place but I'm glad it exists!!We asked the staff how long they've been there and they've settled on Irving 5-6 months ago so it's still fairly new! This shop is pretty small and is only meant for to-go orders, so I would recommend that if you have a larger party to order what you need to and to find a spot nearby to eat. They do have a bar table set up against the wall, but super hard to grab seats since there's only like 4+ chairs available. When my husband and I got here, we waited in line for I believe 20-30 minutes. There's only 1 cashier and depending on what you order, they have to weigh it out to give a fair price. The line moved slowly, but I didn't mind. When we got to the front of the cashier, some items were out of stock (ex: mostly the ribs), but everything else seemed available. I would recommend also coming here early in case you want to try some hot items. My husband and I ordered the following:-1/2 brisket - $20 per 1/2 lb-2 OG Brisket Baos - $9 each-2 sides of cornbread - $6 each-1 Banana Brulee Bliss (BBB) - 9 eachOur total came out to be around ~$42 before tip.REVIEW OF EACH ITEM:-Brisket: HOLY!! This was a THICC slab of brisket and it was delicious!! The brisket itself was juicy, tender, and well seasoned. It was smokey, not super salty, and very fatty. It was so tender to tear through plastic utensils, which is a plus for me. Absolutely thought the portions were huge for this slab of brisket. I do wish that they gave you more BBQ sauce because it paired so well with it. Definitely recommend asking for extra or purchasing more! 5/5-OG Brisket Baos: I really wanted to try this out after looking at so many pictures and this was good to say the least! The bread itself was VERY soft and was baked perfectly. The only thing that caught me off guard was the slight bourbon/whiskey taste after the first bite. It's not that strong - if you like dark liquor you might not notice it as much, but I did and I wasn't a fan. the brisket itself is shredded very finely and it was delicious overall! I'll have to try the other variation. 3.75/5-Mrs. D's Cornbread: Sweet and moist is truly what it is! I really loved how massive the corn bread was and it was delicious! If you pair this with some butter or eat it with some brisket/ribs, it makes the perfect paring! 3.95/5-Banana Brulee Bliss: OMG I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU GET THIS!! I was afraid that it would be too sweet, but somehow the miso caramel is SOOO delicious and not as sweet. The whipped cream was nice and light, the Nilla cookies were still crispy, and I loved the bananas running throughout. Absolutely the perfect way to end your meal. 5/5I'm thankful that there is another BBQ spot nestled in SF now!! It's hard to find GOOD BBQ and I'm glad Smokin' D's came to SF!! Welcome and I'll definitely be back!!

Finally able to sample there mythical dino rib, it is one of those items not really offered during the sunset market, but since they have a brick and mortar spot now I was able to guarantee two of their dino ribs for consumption. Also got 6/6 of cowboy baos and korean baos, the baos is their take on porkbun from my understanding, lets just say the knocked it out of the park, these are heavy, flavorful and delicious, overall the Korean bao for me was better then the cowboy, semi sweet with a kick again not your traditional steam bun in any way.The dino rib was good, heavy, tender, i think they may need to offer a spicy sweet bbq sauce or regular oddly dipping in a spicy sweet completes bbq meal for me.Brisket nothing to say here, still delicious still juicy slight smoke taste but delicious as when I first had itThe cornbread are fairly large mixed with jalapeno definite must try had 3 to myself during the day lolDefinite will be back for more dino and cornbread and pick up the brisket for outings or partiesHats off to the chef definitely if your in the mood for some good bbq this is one of the spots that knock it out the park

The gimmick is "good barbecue" - but with an Asian twist. And I've had good barbecue. So I was far more curious about the Asian twist, which turns out to be good barbecue in a bao bun (instead of a regular sandwich). I liked both, but preferred the Korean-inflected barbecue a little more. No need to go back (it's pricy and out of the way for me) but it was a nice experience.

Updating review on the tamales:Note: Smokin D's reached out to me and offered me a new batch of their tamales after reading my review. This is just my honest opinion. This batch of tamales had more flavor than the last batch I received. All the meat (chicken and beef) were smoky and flavorful. The tamale was still a little dry for me but nothing a little hot sauce couldn't fix. Great respect to them for reaching out and making sure their food was up to par!

Stopped by to see my favorite BBQ folks and to get a serving of their S'mac 'N Cheese and a couple of tamales. So nice that they now have regular hours and more items on their menu. They're now open noon to 6 from Wednesday through Sunday, but, once in a while, the schedule changes (Open Thanksgiving week from Monday through Wednesday, 11 to 5); they're family oriented, so when there are holidays, the schedule might change to accomodate being with family! I was *still* amazed by the taste of the S'mac 'N Cheese, the little cornbread muffin, and the tamales; the deliciousness matched the memory of them! So glad they have regular hours now and they're close enough for me to make a run there!

Overall the food here is pretty good. Is it amazing bbq? No but it's good for the Sunset area. It's strictly take out here and there is no indoor seating. On my first visit I had the brisket bao, the ribs and the banana pudding. The brisket bao is priced at $9 and is a play on a cha Siu bao where there is brisket inside instead of pork. The bao itself is very good. It is soft and chewy. The brisket was a bit dry and tough. For the 3x premium I don't think it's worth it.The ribs came without any sauce. Luckily I had a few chick-fila sweet siracha packets at home and it pairs well with the ribs. With the sauce I enjoyed the ribs but without I wouldn't have liked it. The banana pudding was very good. They make there whip cream in house and you can really taste the difference.

It's ok. Very little seating. Kinda pricey for what you get. Also - pretty lame that they won't give you a cup of water to go with your $18 sandwich.

I was excited to see that this BBQ place recently opened on Irving! It's great to see a farmer's market vendor get their own brick and mortar location. I've had their brisket bao and brisket sandwich and they were both delicious and full of flavor! The brisket was tender and moist. The brisket bao is like a Chinese bbq pork bun but with brisket inside. Very yummy combo! We don't have many bbq places in SF so it's nice to have this spot.
