If you're looking for mind-blowing sushi without the Michelin price tag, this is the spot. The quality of the fish was out of this world--some of the freshest, most buttery cuts I've ever had. And for $50-$75 per person, You don't get this level of craftsmanship and flavor anywhere else at that price. The chefs and waitresses make the experience even better. They seem to know every customer by name, treating each person like a regular, and they went above and beyond to make us feel special. It's that rare mix of world-class sushi and warm hospitality that keeps you coming back.Also--GET THE DAIYO SHOTS. Those are to die for.

10/10 omakase experience and also an excellent value considering some of the other top omakase restaurants in the city.Every dish we had at Shoshin was unreal. The chef uses small amounts of custom seasoning to help each dish taste unique but all complemented the fish, none of them overpowered it. All of the nigiri was excellent but I loved the extra care, like cutting the hamachi toro in a unique way that changed the order of what you tasted in the piece. The service was also excellent at the bar. The chefs were very personable and friendly even though they were working hard.

What a pleasant surprise! A small restaurant with a causal date night vibes. The service was excellent, friendly, with constant drink refills and regular check-ins. We made same-day reservations and were seated right away on a busy Friday night. All the nigiri was high-quality and flavorful, but my favorite was the baked scallops roll. The Lost Island roll, wrapped in crisp cucumber with sashimi served in ponzu sauce, was refreshing and unique. Another standout was the Daigo shot, which was both creative and delicious. The hamachi kama was perfectly cooked and paired beautifully with the garlic ponzu sauce. To end the meal, the matcha tiramisu was the perfect sweet touch. Overall, I'm excited to return and try more dishes!

I was in the neighborhood and needed to eat so I took a chance on a sushi place I wasn't familiar with. What a pleasant surprise. This place is a 10/10. Not only is the food excellent the service was excellent. I had never been there before but was treated like a local. I tried things I never would have tried per the chef's recommendations and he hit it out of the ball park. The food is so fresh you just enjoy every bite. I can't wait to go back and take friends with me. If you get the opportunity to sit at the sushi bar with Gary making your sushi choices, don't pass it up.

Food was amazing, service was even more amazing, and the ambiance felt so homey and welcoming. I've tried ALOT of sushi places in the Bay Area and this spot although new is my top #1 fave sushi spots now! The food here is so delicious (I absolutely love their wagyu nigiri and salmon nigiri, me and my bf couldn't stop ordering them) Definitely coming back again and would highly recommend!

What a neighborhood gem!!! Apparently under bew management, this place rocks in the heart of the Richmond! First off, the service is so great and fun. This family run joint has loads of charm and folks who actually talk to you upon arrival. No BS. Charming sushi chefs interact with the patrons. The interior is well designed and cozy...feels like a real sushi bar!! The menu is expansive and creative. The food is so great ...from edamame to hamachi to conger eel. Crazy good. We had tuna wrapped in cucumber, edamame and rolls. Our main roll was tempura fried and filled with delicious fish. Even the ginger was tasty! Huge sake menu and a variety of beers as well non alcoholic drinks. Try this place, you won't be disappointed!

Nice place to satisfy my sashimi cravings. Omakase was great quality of fish and decent price. Another highlight were the handrolls and the Eryngi tempura.

Cozy corner restaurant on Clement Street sits Shoshin, a popular sushi restaurant in the Richmond District. It's a pretty tiny place with two guys working quietly at the sushi bar that can sit six across from them. Altogether, there's about 5 tables, so if you come as a large group, make sure you book ahead. I ordered Chef's Omakase nigiri: 8 nice slabs of raw fish on delectably vinegary rice. We also had tempura, caterpillar roll, tekka roll, hotate carpaccio (raw scallops), hamachi kama (grilled yellowtail collar - no pic), and a bowl of rice. Might sound like a lot, but let's face it: it's hard to get really full on sushi. We had a complimentary sesame ice cream for dessert, which was a real treat! 'Check-in' here on Yelp, so you could get yours, too! Overall, excellently-made fresh sushi, but for those who might not like wasabi, warning: these guys might put some in it.

I had an incredible experience at Shoshin and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a more affordable omakase experience. I had made reservations for 2 on Valentine's Day. Coming up from the south bay, it had taken 2 hours with rush hour and the rain, and I had to call them to see if they could push back our reservation given that it took longer than expected to get here with the traffic. I was worried they might've cancelled our table, but they were super accommodating and understanding and allowed us to still dine in worry-free. Let's talk about the food. My partner and I ordered the 10 piece nigiri + 1 handroll omakase, which was $84 per person and comes with a choice of 1 piece uni or wagyu from the 10 pieces of nigiri. We went with wagyu. The fish selection from the chef was excellent. The nigiri was already seasoned, so you do not need to add any additional soy sauce or wasabi. It was seasoned to perfection. My least favorite was the squid, simply because I did not like the texture of the squid. I really enjoyed the ebodai (butter fish) and the chu toro (medium fatty toro), but all were excellent and had their own flavors and textures. The wagyu was phenomenal. So delicious and tender, and the flavor was on point. The chef also gave us a tamago on the house. There was a party that was celebrating someone's birthday, and they also gave us a slice of cake to share, which was really nice. We also got a carafe (9 oz) of the Wakatake "Onikoroshi" Sake, which was $33. A light, fruity sake that wasn't dry. I'll definitely be trying to snag a bottle of this for my home. At the end of the dinner, they also gave us a red rose in spirit of Valentine's Day, which was a cute gesture. Overall, I had an amazing time at Shoshin. While I did come for a special occasion, I would imagine the service and quality to be on par with my experience even for a regular meal. I'll be coming back here for sure!

What an amazing find! This cozy little sushi spot feels like a hidden gem. The service was impeccable - our waitress and even the sushi chefs went out of their way to make us feel welcome, and we weren't even sitting at the sushi bar!The attention to detail was next level, from beautifully plated sushi* to the freshness of every bite. Prices were very reasonable for the quality, and to top it all off, they surprised us with a free matcha cheesecake (which was delicious!).My friend and I felt like we were having dinner at home, and we didn't want to leave. Highly recommend this spot for an intimate, relaxed, and unforgettable sushi experience! *Food we ordered: miso soup, edamame, moriawase nigiri, albacore roll, baked salmon roll, unagi nigiri/roll
