Shake Shack Hillsdale

First let's start off with the location, nestled right in mall of Hillsdale in San Mateo. Wow this place has changed since we moved away from the Bay Area. Crazy! The food was great, our oldest kept saying it was better than In and Out, for me being California raised I thought that was sacrilegious to make such a statement. But wow, the burgers are delicious, they're smash burgers if you're ordering beef, their chicken is amazing and you can customize them extensively. The ambiance was a bit crowded as it was a weekend and the usual hangout for kids in area. Make this place you're must try, when you are craving a smash burgers! Their chili's included are delicious and offer the right amount of heat!

We walked in and there was nobody to greet us except a machine: and no atmosphere. At least put some tasteful decorations to make an impression. I could forget that place in two hours if I wanted. We put our order in for a chocolate milkshake because that was the only milkshake up there even though we saw people with other milkshakes. We put a 10% tip (remember no service) and sat down.We waited for like an hour before we could get a single milkshake. My dad wished he hadn't have given them that 10% tip. The only thing that entertained me was a soundless movie of the Simpsons which was boring me to death since my phone was dead. If you're reading this BUY A SPEAKER!I don't know if this is me because I'm not a fan of chocolate milkshakes, but it was too rich. It reminded me of a bitter protein shake rather than a delicious chocolate dessert. Anyway thats my review. I would not recommend this place unless you want to waste your time. I ordered one thing and it took an hour to get to me. I hope if you choose to eat here you get better luck.

This will likely be my last visit to this Shake Shack. After four tries, it's time to share my experience. I still remember my first visit during the pandemic. My friend and I ordered through the app while standing right outside. It was straightforward--place your order, get an estimated pick-up time, and check the monitors to see when it's ready. We waited a long time, but our names never appeared. When we asked an employee about our order, the woman rudely told us that if our name wasn't on the screen, our order wasn't ready. We ended up asking another employee, who was able to locate our food, but the experience left us with a negative first impression. As for the food on the 3 previous visits, I've always thought the burgers were just okay--nothing exceptional. Every burger I've had here has been lukewarm at best, never hot and fresh.Tonight's order was particularly disappointing. I got the ShackBurger and a frozen custard (vanilla & chocolate). The burger was a mess--sloppy assembly with tomatoes sliding out, a pickle against the cardboard box, and a sad, wilted lettuce leaf between the top bun and cheese. The buns were flat, and once I reassembled the burger, it looked so unappetizing. As usual, the burger was lukewarm with a soggy, flat bun. It wasn't worth the $7.99 as I was still hungry afterward. The only bright spot was the frozen custard.Another annoying detail: despite checking the box for napkins, they never include them, and I always have to ask. I've had great experiences at Shake Shacks on the East Coast, but this location consistently disappoints.

Another review because lately they've been getting our order right! Doesn't hurt that I make sure my kids count the items in the bags before they come back to me parked illegally by Palette lol - tried the chicken nuggs this time - did not disappoint - the burger buns always deflate but that's becasue they are wrapped up and steam in the drive home - our bad - maybe we will eat in house some day - also had the custardy ice cream and shake and cheese fries - it's not haute cuisine, but it is yummy and I'm glad they've started paying more attention to getting the orders right, so I don't have to hate myself for spending more money there when I've been burned lol. I'd suggest to them to get their app figured out - we can't seem to get to the point where you pay and we had to go to four devices before we succeeded - these aren't old phones - finally worked on a PC. Mmmmm just think about their burgers rn is making my stomach growl - yes please to the burger with sweet peppers on it!

My favorite burger spot in the area! The burger was tasty and the fries were crispy and flavorful. I had the shack burger with bacon added which was a great combination. I also tried the black truffle Parmesan fries which were delicious. Their strawberry peach iced tea is made with real fruit puree and was the perfect compliment to my burger + fries.They have both indoor and outdoor seating which connects to a nice outside area of the mall with other shops to walk around in.

Food- 8/10 I had a double Shack Burger and fries, and my mom had the chicken nuggets. The patties were cooked perfectly and they were juicy. The lettuce and tomato on the burger also made it very refreshing. Their crinkle-cut fries were a nice golden color and they had a nice crisp to them. And last but certainly not least was the chicken nuggets I tried from my mom. The seasoning was very good and the chicken was also very juicy! Very yummy!Service- 10/10We ordered off of a kiosk but the staff who brought our food was kind.Ambiance- 10/10The restaurant was clean and had members cleaning tables as customers would leave. The looks of the restaurant were simple and appealing for a burger joint.

Had a quick bite after a day of shopping. Service was fast. Place was busy but an attendant was quick in straightening up the tables which I appreciated. Love our burgers, ice cream, shake and fries.Self order counters may need a bit of organizing. The touch screens were a bit hard to use, customers ended up clicking the screen many times.

Mmm that angus that beef that cheese but oh yeah they also have a really good vegetarian selection. That shroom burger is good go to order for me. They don't let you down with there shakes, they're delicious.

I hadn't been to shake shack in a while but I was at the mall and needed a bite, so burger was an easy choice. I got the smoke stack, because I love the peppers. The potato pun was soft and pillowy. The meat was good but small, I should've gotten a double. I also got a side of cheese fries, and not sure how it's possible but the cheese was kinda clumpy and cold. I still ate them, but it was definitely not the warmest which made it kinda mid. The fries themselves are ok, definitely prefer them over the other popular burger chain. For a burger and fries, it came out to $15 before tip. And I was still hungry. Definitely don't feel like the value is there for what it is. Whenever I'm in Vegas, the shake shack there hits way different. Dunno what's up with the Bay locations but the quality isn't on the same level. Dining room could use some TLC as well. I'm never mad at eating shake shack, but it's not somewhere I'm going out of my way for.
