Shabuway Japanese Style Hot Pot

Highly recommend their Kobe beef! The marbling is distinct, and the texture is tender yet not greasy. It has a pleasantly chewy bite and pairs perfectly with rice. The slightly salty and tangy dipping sauce enhances the flavor, making it even more enjoyable. The restaurant is clean, the service is friendly, and there's almost no waiting time whenever I visit. We were walking around San Mateo looking for a spot to eat on Sunday for lunch and luckily shabuway had no wait. We came in and was seated immediately. The restaurant is a little on the smaller side but it works. We had a party of 5. We ordered miso and spicy miso broth, and the meat trays we ordered were angus beef and Kobe beef. Both were cut fresh to ordered. We ended up ordering 2 more trays for the kids. I'm surprised they don't give us more sauces or anything, and rice is extra.For our table there was a 2 meat order minimum.

Shabuway is a great option if you are looking for quick and simple hot pot. Nothing fancy but it will do the job. That's all you need sometimes!Service: 4/5- Went in on a Monday around 11:30am and the place was empty aside from 2 other parties. Service was quick. Server was friendly and started heating up our broth base while we decided on the rest of our order. Value: 4.5/5- On weekdays, they have a lunch special. I ordered the Angus Prime Beef for $19.49. Originally, it would have been $24.49. It also comes with a Traditional Veggie Plate with things such as bok choy, Napa cabbage, spinach, tofu, carrots, mushrooms, etc.- There is an AYCE option as well but I believe the entire party would have to participate in AYCE. Food: 4/5- Food was tasty and what you would expect at this price point. It's nothing crazy and the meats aren't premium or anything but it is still a great value overall. Veggies were fresh and a great assortment. Spicy Miso Broth had a nice kick to it and great flavor. I left feeling perfectly full. Not overly full but not feeling like I wanted a few more bites.Overall, Shabuway is a solid option in Downtown San Mateo and I'll definitely be back for their lunch specials.

Came to Shabuway for an early birthday dinner with family around 6:30 on a Saturday night. We opted for the Ayce Angus and Pork for $37 pp. broth of choice was spicy miso and seaweed. Despite the busy night, all the servers were very attentive and quick. Nowadays I stay away from ayce because meat quality is normally not that great, but I was surprised by Shabuway's meat quality. Meat was lean and not too fatty and each round was generous. I normally walk away feeling crappy but not this time. Even though the broths are simple, they become flavorful with the meats. The sauces are a great addition and you can add as much green onion or garlic. I will surely be back especially now that we're entering the chilly seasons.

This is easily my favorite shabu spot in San Mateo. In fact I'm here right now. Been going to this spot since 2016.

This is my favorite Shabu Shabu. I love the amount of meat and the refills of rice and sauce. Although I miss the enoki mushrooms the food is quite delicious.

Stopped by on a whim with a friend and enjoyed our dining experience. We were seated at the bar, which was a unique experience for shabu. The service was friendly and attentive.We ordered à la carte, and I chose water as my broth with Angus prime beef (large). While there was an ample amount of beef, I wish the veggies had been proportional to the large size of the beef. Otherwise, I thought the quality of both the meat and the vegetables was fresh. For sauce, they offered two main bases: ponzu and sesame, with garlic and green onion as additional ingredients. If I'm in the area and craving shabu, I would come again.

I was visiting the area, and a friend recommended this place - it did not disappoint! The food was fresh and flavorful, with delicious meats, and rich broth. The cozy ambiance and super friendly staff made the experience even better. Highly recommend!

Great customer service! We did not order the ACYE and decided on the large meat choice. I enjoyed the choice of meats (beef, pork, and lamb), vegetables, and soup base which also comes with rice. We ordered a side of ramen which is the thicker ramen noodle similar to most shabu places. They do not have a large selection of soups and we felt their Tonkatsu was not rich enough even if costing an extra 3.00 which is the reason for the deduction of a star. I am not sure if they refill the soup with the same broth. May I say their sesame sauce is very good! After Shabu house closed, we decided to come here and they did not disappoint. I only hoped the soup would be comparable.

a solid shabu shabu place to go to! shabuway is a small restaurant with quick service and a simple menu!we came right at opening and got seated right away, but the wait definitely built up fast on this saturday night! they have tables and bar seats, and i'd recommend the bar so each person can have their own shabu pot!we did the a la carte large american kobe beef set, and it was honestly so worth it for the price! the vegetables were all my favs, and the miso soup had a good amount of flavor! my parents thought the beef was a bit too hard, but it was still okay overall.this is a fairly simple restaurant but perfect for satisfying hot pot cravings!
