If you're looking for a cozy spot with a touch of home in the heart of San Francisco, this restaurant absolutely hits the mark. I showed up mainly on a friend's recommendation to try their famous mole, and it did not disappoint. It's not overly sweet like some moles can be; it manages to be rich and flavorful without being overpoweringly chocolatey. Plus, they have this rotating menu that always includes something intriguing, like the pozole they had when I visited - definitely keeps things fresh and interesting!I decided to dive into a plate of their Choriqueso ($13.50). This starter was spot on, with just the right pull in the melted cheese, and the chorizo added a nice savory kick. Soft tortillas were on the side, which were pleasant, though something a bit more robust for dipping would have been perfect. On the main dish front, I settled on the beef soup for one of those colder SF nights, and it was like a warm hug in a bowl--lovely savory broth packed with tender beef. If you've got a taste for something sweet, don't miss their fried plantains; the portion is generous and they fry them up beautifully. The service here was seriously the cherry on top. The staff is super friendly, making a point to suggest different dishes and check in without hovering too much. It's like they genuinely want you to explore the best their menu has to offer! And the restaurant itself has such a vibrant, lively feel to it, with those charming Lotería-themed tables and the occasional mariachi band cruising through--it's the kind of warm environment that makes you want to linger.Do note that while I wasn't particularly wowed by their horchata, as it seemed to come from a syrup and didn't hit the spot for me, it didn't drag my experience down. This place is perfect for bringing out-of-town guests who want a taste of local flavor. Whether you're going for a hearty meal or just popping in for something light, the ambiance and flavors make it well worth returning to. Definitely a top pick in my books!

Came here recently to try their Breakfast Burrito (12.50) and Choriqueso ($13.50). Both were tasty and filling. The Choriqueso is basically melted cheese that is grilled then sprinkled with chorizo sprinkled on top. It eats like melted cheese with a pretty substantial pull, and not liquid like some other queso's. Also, they serve soft tortillas on the side, which were good, but I would have appreciated something more rigid to "dip" with. The burrito was filled appropriately, and everything was seasoned well. While I can't note any particular faults with this burrito, I also didn't find it to be anything extraordinary, so I'd recommend it if you're just looking for a solid option in the area that is no-frills and hits the spot. They also serve complimentary chips & salsa, which was a nice addition. The vibe in here is a little campy, but the crowd is local and it's definitely bustling. Come alone or with a group.

This place was nice! Great ambiance and service was quick and friendly.Steak was cooked extremely well, and I appreciated the free chips and delicious salsa at the start. The beef tacos were a little dry, but the portion was huge.

This is only for the food as the service is good. The chilaquiles not good at all. The chips were soggy and looked as it sitting for a while. The chilaquiles Veronica also suffered from way too much sauce and the chorizo not even visible. Seems liked they use the tube chorizo which is more like American Chili. Disappointed

This place is great! I've tried many dishes from here and you really can't go wrong-- the coctels are especially delicious! Service is excellent and the interior decor is lively. If you're lucky, you'll catch the mariachi band coming through. Highly recommend!

For sure this place gives you your abuela vibe. From the look to the service everything was great. Just popped in for something light before dinner. Ordered the beef soup and when I say it was everything and some I mean that . The flavors the provisions the tender beef The broth. Just drown me in that soup. Imagine walking in on a cold San Francisco day and having a bowl of this makes me feel all warm inside.

I was looking for a sit down Mexican spot for dinner and decided to check out this place. The ambiance was nice, and I liked all the decor. But the food was lackluster and not worth coming back for. I got the green enchiladas, and honestly everything on my plate lacked flavor. With each bite I took, I never felt the desire to want to take any more bites. The enchiladas also were hardly lukewarm, and the cheese was barely melted. I ended up barely finishing half of the items on my plate because it was all too bland. The chips and salsa were just okay too. The chips were a bit too thick and hard to bite into. Also note that only the first serving of chips are free. Additional chips and salsa costs almost $5. This worked for us though because we didn't want any more.

Had the pollo y mole as my main, it was sweet and savory! The service was friendly, sat our table quickly. Place is decorated from the ceiling to the floor and played some Spanish classics.
