San Francisco Meat Co. is an outstanding butcher shop that truly delivers on quality and craftsmanship. The staff are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable, always ready to offer great recommendations or answer any questions about their meats. One of the best parts of this shop is that nearly everything is made in-house, and you can even watch the butchers in action through a viewing window as they cut meats or craft sausages. The selection here is top-notch, offering everything from freshly cut portions to beautifully dry-aged meats. They also stock a variety of locally made products, making it a great place to support small producers. I also love the way they showcase the high-quality Wagyu they bring in, with signage paying homage to the different grades and origins. If there's one thing that could make this place even better, it would be swapping out the Kirkland hot dogs they sell and replacing them with house-made hot dogs--especially since their sausages are already made in-house and are excellent.Overall, this is an amazing butcher shop that I'll definitely keep coming back to. Highly recommended for anyone looking for high-quality meats and a great local shopping experience!

I read a bunch of reviews on Yelp about the hot dogs at this place so I had to try one. The good news: they are as good as advertised. They have them on a cooker on the counter. They warm up the bun and you get to select what toppings you add. And at a reasonable $5 it is a easy decision to get one.

The hot dogs are amazing. They are so flavorful and remind me of Dodger Dogs at the LA stadium. We will definitely be back because you can't beat them for $5 each. They are super big and worth every penny. They said they stop seeking them at 6pm so even though they are open past 6pm, get there earlier for a delicious hot dog. They also said they will be offering classes in how to cook their meat because they have such a great selection.

There's a new vegetarian kid in town, and trust me, it's soo delicious! The new veggie sandwich caught my attention with the mushrooms, the snow peas spiked my curiosity and it delivered!! This sandwich is so savory, nutty, crunchy, and slightly sweet from the bread that holds up and is the perfect vehicle for the filling. Thank you Cort for always making the most delicious sandwiches and providing great service. The staff here is always welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly. Hope you give it a try. Cheers!

I had a very good sandwich from this neighborhood butcher shop! It was a $20 sandwich (including 20% tip) but I thought it was fair considering the quality and the size of the product.Pastrami sandwich on a Dutch Crunch was delicious and such a nice feel to hold, it was a good choice. The shop also sells various cuts of beef, pork, sausages and duck as well as Wagyu A5 beef.Very friendly service and a bright welcoming shop for those of you like me, living in the neighborhood and likes good quality meats and sandwiches.

San Francisco Meat Co is a neighborhood gem. There are so many things to love: - The beef here is excellent, I love getting the American wagyu as a treat, so rich and delicious, beats a restaurant steak 9/10 times.- Don't sleep on the prosciutto. I love how thinly sliced it is, and the flavor is great. Plus it's pretty much the same price per lb as prosciutto from the grocery store, so it's a no brainer to get it here. - Their sandwiches are surprisingly good. I got a turkey sandwich on Dutch crunch and honestly it beats turkey sandwiches I get at most sandwich shops. I only meant to eat half but it was so good I ate the second half. - They have a great selection of specialty food goods from some of my favorite (relatively indie) brands

I was sad to see Fatted Calf had moved from this Hayes Valley location other to the Ferry Building, but thought my local, quality meat needs would still be met when I saw another butcher moved in. If you know exactly what you want, this would be a good place to stop for meat, sandwiches or hot dogs, and light groceries, but when you don't know the staff aren't quite as helpful as what I've come accustomed to with Fatted Calf. The majority of times I visited the location is when I'm looking for some charcuterie to put together a last minute happy hour board. Unfortunately, the charcuterie selection is pretty limited with SF Meat Co and the staff doesn't seem to know how to pull an order well. I order some salamis and prosciutto one time and the salami was sliced super thin you could barely taste it while the prosciutto was sliced super thick like ham! It should have been the opposite, and the portions sizes weren't even close to what I ordered. After that visit I decided, I would trek to the Ferry Building for my charcuterie needs!A recent time I visited while looking for something small to cook up for myself so I scoped out their marinated meats. As someone with dietary restrictions and particular tastes, I asked about the marinades and wasn't given much info. For example, I asked what was in the sauce of a meat that said black pepper sauce and the only answer I got was black pepper...not helpful. I left empty handed and probably won't come back unless I want something specific.

The sandwiches were pretty good, the store was clean, and the staff were friendly. I really like horseradish but felt little overpowering the sandwiches. It was still a good sandwich. My husband his one was not bad

I went in for a roast, which was super easy. Then, I saw the sandwich menu and had to try the mortadella on rustic roll, heated up. As a New Orleans transplant, I recognized it as 2/3 of a muffuletta with interesting substitutions. Taste-wise, it's pretty much on. Salt and other seasonings pretty much what I remember. Lack of green olive, cauliflower and carrot chunks normally in New Orleans olive salad was actually a huge upside... no veggies all over my lap. Instead, it seems they pile on extra meat with the olive relish being more compact. Lack of salami was fine since that can make some mufuletta's too salty anyway. I recommend leaving the lettuce and tomato on for added texture. Be prepared for a really good mess!

Just ordered from SFMC's update sandwich list. Ordered their take on the torta and throughly enjoyed the sandwich. The bread was fresh and toasted. The meat was well seasoned, not too salty, and with a little kick of spice.First shop I've seen offering torta and banh mi on the menu.
