Rasa Rasa Kitchen stands out for its amazing Indonesian food, but on my visit, it was surprisingly empty! which seemed a shame considering how underrated Indonesian food is. Many people tend to bypass Thai and Burmese food in favor of what's being served here, and I don't understand why. The sambal with chips is a must-try -- the perfect blend of spice and flavor, accompanied by crispy chips that give it an addictive crunch. The coconut rice is rich and flavorful. For a true indulgence, the beef rendang is tender, slow-cooked to perfection, and packed with deep, savory flavors. Don't forget to try the mie goreng with chicken -- the noodles are stir-fried to just the right texture.Despite the emptiness of the place, Rasa Rasa Kitchen is great for those willing to explore the vibrant, flavorful world of Indonesian cuisine. It deserves far more attention and recognition! Selamat Datang! (Welcome)

Came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon, overall loved the vibe of the restaurant- but the food was a huge let down. I do not recommend this place when compared to other indo restaurants. I would not come back since the food just didn't hit. Service: we were warmly welcomed upon entering. You order through QR code and gratuity 18% is automatically added. They checked up on us a few times. At the end of our meal, we did not get our dessert and had to get up and ask for it-- seems that they forgot about our order! Food: everything was SO sweet, the gudeg, bakmi ayam, rendang... too sweet and it lacked the authentic Indonesian flavors. The chicken satay didn't have a great BBQ flavor - NOT worth the $20 price tag IMO. the best part of the meal was the Martabak dessert and the chicken broth soup that came with the noodle dish. The krupuk chips were STALE and not freshly made!!! The price for what you get is sooo bad.

Came with a few friends to check out this restaurant since we were nearby and wanted to to grab a quick bite! The ambiance of the restaurant is inviting, though a bit on the cozier side. I enjoyed all the Christmas decor as well as the Christmas music! The service was also good, with attentive servers! For the food, my friends and I ordered a plethora of dishes, and I definitely tried a few! The main dishes I ordered myself were the pempek (fish cake, boiled egg, cucumbers, noodle) and yellow coconut rice. I also tried the chicken mushroom noodle soup, rica rica (pork belly), and shrimp fried rice. We had also gotten cassava fries to share! At this restaurant, we order online after scanning a QR code, and pay prior to getting food, which was convenient for splitting costs! All food was great, and I enjoyed it thoroughly.Food summary:Cassava fries 8/10I enjoyed this, and this was my first time trying cassava fries! They come with melted cheese on top and a sweet tangy sauce on the side!Pempek 8/10I enjoyed this as well, but it was a bit on the spicy side for me- though I don't have the best spice tolerance. It was fun trying this dish, and I would definitely like to try more in the future!Yellow coconut rice 9/10This was good as well. I ordered it as a side so the portion was smaller, but it tasted very good with lots of coconut flavor!Shrimp fried rice 9/10I enjoyed this dish a lot, and I would definitely order it next time! It has good flavor and a great blend of veggies and protein!Rica rica 8/10This one is also spicy, but the flavor is very good. A little sour to my taste, but blends well with the saltiness of the pork!Chicken mushroom noodle soup 8/10The soup comes separate from the noodles. I tried the noodles only, and the flavor is good! I definitely enjoyed this dish as well :)

Ordered take out from Rasa Rasa and got the Padang Platter. I had high hopes as I really enjoy Indonesian food and have had Indonesian food I really enjoyed before, but the Padang Platter was a huge let down. The meat was not very tender and every part in the dish had the same seasoning I felt. The beef was tough and I personally wished that the beef was slightly more saucy as well. They added these dried corn kernels but they were so dry that they really retracted from the whole taste. The same aspect for the anchovies. I could not finish the meal unfortunately.

*date visited: 09.03.2024*ordered: beef rendang plate* owner was so kind and allowed me to get the plate (usually only for lunch) instead of the dinner bread bowl.he was so kind, informative, and the food came out so quick! lot of seating and the interior is decorated nicely* portion was huge and i loved all of the components on the plate -- the salad was refreshing given the heaviness and saltiness of the beef, the shrimp chip offered a fun crunch, and the rice was cooked perfectly. the beef was so tender and literally addicting to eat, however for $19, this is a treat meal and not a frequent meal :) would go back to try their other stuff!

Heard about this spot from two SF locals! Went with a group of five for lunch around 12:30 PM on a Friday. There weren't a lot of people in the store. Seems like a place for people to casually eat, there wasn't a ton of seating. I liked the design of the store, somewhat quirky. The service was excellent. The ordering system was easy--you just order from a QR code. We got chicken satay for appetizers. It came with 6 pieces. it was tasty and the peanut sauce was thick, although it was pretty expensive. It also came with pickled vegetables that had a sharp acidity to it that I did not enjoy.I got their shrimp fried rice. I was intrigued because it had shrimp paste in it, which I loved. It was also my first time trying stink beans, which I've always wanted to try! The taste was interesting. The texture of the rice and shrimp were good, and overall it was flavorful although way too salty. I ate a third of it and took the rest home, but after the next day, I couldn't finish it because there was just way too much salt. It must've been from the shrimp paste. I ate the cucumber slices and tomato because it felt like it was the only carb cutting the saltiness. I liked the crispy bits though. Overall I'm sure there are better dishes here, and my coworkers enjoyed their meals. It was a nice experience overall but I would not get the same dish again.

service is amazing. Place is great, but food is not so good. Fish cake: very tough, bland, and VERY watery cuko. Hella sour too. I get that it's vinegar, but there's not a single spices went into it. Very disappointing. Gudeg: hella sweet, terrible. No other flavor but sweet. Some peanut tofu: mediocre seasoning, it's as if they're using old peanut. You can taste the "old"ness in it. Cassava: so hard. They could have boiled first before frying it. Crackers: for $5??? It's so hard it actually makes the roof of my mouth bled.

Came to check out this new Indonesian spot for dinner on Sunday. It's a casual spot on the corner of the street. Its small but decorated well. They have a menu QR code where you order and pay from your phone. The staff is nice and there is an 18% service fee included in the bill. We got the Pempek (fish cake), pan fried noodles and turmeric fried chicken. The pan fried noodles were our favorite! Very flavorful. It looks like it was made with an instant noodle but I enjoyed it. The turmeric chicken had a nice crispy skin but I wish there was more flavor and seasoning. It came with sambal that had a lot of flavor but was a bit too spicy for me. Will try the beef rendang next time. The canned soy milk drink was perfect to go along with the meal.

Rasa Rasa began as a food truck but has now opened a brick and mortar restaurant to showcase their bold Indonesian-inspired food! One of my favorite dishes was the Pempek, a chewy fish cake with a stuffing of hard-boiled egg, served in a sweet, savory, tangy Cuko sauce. The Gado Gado was a salad of chopped lettuce, cabbage, cucumbers, bean sprouts, carrots, tofu, and tempeh, all mixed in a creamy dressing and topped with peanuts, a sliced hard-boiled egg, and garlic chips, and served over a fried tortilla (in a nod to the taco salad). Gado Gado is usually one of my favorite Indonesian dishes, but this one lacked a strong peanut flavor in its dressing (usually my favorite component). The Chicken Soto Kediri Soup was a spiced broth (made with turmeric, lemongrass, ginger, and lime leaves) with slices of chicken, tofu, potato, and egg, served with a bowl of rice on the side; and the Beef Rendang Bowl was a dry beef curry made of huge chunks of tender beef cooked with spices and served (of all things) in a bread bowl! The dish wasn't particularly authentic in its flavor or presentation but was super creative and interesting for what it was. Finally, we had the Balado made of large shell-on prawns in a deliciously sweet and mildly spicy red chili sauce. The huge prawns were super juicy, and the sauce was addictively delicious (and made this one of my favorite dishes)! Overall, the food here was super creative, and the flavors, though not authentic, were definitely on-point.
