If you watch the streaming service from NHK World, Japan's version of PBS, you will invariably see a documentary program about a ramen house in Japan and how the owner would spend an inordinate amount of time perfecting their broth. I don't think this is one of those rarefied places. This stretch of San Bruno Avenue in Portola is chock full of budget eateries. Some diners, a few Mexican but mostly Asian eateries. This ramen spot certainly offers a lot of choice - a dozen different ramen bowls, a half-dozen udon soups, lots of rice and fried noodle plates - but my order didn't impress me. I had the $14.95 Tonkotsu Ramen Combo which was a meal set that included a small salad, a couple of gyoza, and three slices of California roll (photo: https://bit.ly/3YDYshW).While the extras were reasonable enough, the ramen fell short starting with the somewhat paltry portion (photo: https://bit.ly/3QAS1dL). There were just two slices of pork chashu, and the noodles were a tad on the limp side. The biggest disappointment, however, was the thin broth. It just didn't quite have the depth of flavor that would've made the other elements more tolerable. Oh well.FOOD - 3 stars...thin tonkotsu ramen but with extrasAMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...kinda sparse in here, not that warmSERVICE - 3 stars...also not that warmTOTAL - 3 stars...ramen as more of a commodityRELATED - Hungry for ramen? I got the kuro black tonkatsu and an order of gyoza for take out. The food was done before the time frame it the yelp app said it would be done which was nice. The soup was delicious. I recommend two eggs as only one is actually a half. My only miiiild complaint is that the gyoza are a bit smaller than I see other places. Nevertheless, they were delicious also. I recommend this spot for sure.

A great place for breakfast, their breakfast items come with a cup of hot Hong Kong milk tea, my fave! It is not too sweet and the portion is generous. The beef noodle soup was tasty, the rice noodles were round and fresh, it really hit the spot! The rice roll with shrimp was thin almost translucent like I like it. It looked and tasted like it's freshly made and the soy sauce comes separately so you can put as much or as little as you want. The chicken wings had amazing flavor and texture, didn't look like much but it was full of flavor and I was pleased. The leek pan fried dumplings came with a bowl of soup which I didn't really understand, are we supposed to dip it? Luckily we had the soy sauce from the rice rolls and it complimented the dumplings perfectly. Lastly we got the ham omelet which comes with mushroom and cheese; a piece of toast and the crispiest McDonald's has browns. The service was quick and super friendly. The seating was comfortable. I'll be back!

I really wished I could share a great review for this establishment. It's a wonderful neighborhood option if in the area. But the food was lacking. We ordered ramen and the noodles were pretty al dente, the broth had no real flavor and the pork was unseasoned. Also ordered a rock and roll which was more rice, avocado and sauce. I did not taste or see the eel.My partner ordered a bento box, the chicken was also flavorless. The best part was my green peach tea drink but he ordered a boba which tasted watered down. The staff in the restaurant is super pleasant and wonderful. So I do wish that I could say I would go back. But that's not the case unfortunately.

If you're looking for an authentic ramen shop with thick broth this isn't the place. The food is good if you want to fill a craving but you can probably do that with some ramen. Their ramen and sushi aren't great and their umi meal has been above average at times. I would often get their popcorn chicken and onion rings instead of the ramen or sushi. Their curry tastes the best compared to everything if you want a hearty meal.Their service isn't great as you walk in through the door you would notice either one or two workers in the front. They would either take a long time to help you or help you immediately. Most often the first option. The decor of the restaurant is okay but with bad lighting, it isn't great for pictures.

Came here on a Friday afternoon. Checked for vaccination card before dining in. They sat us down next to the window. Restaurant was pretty empty but busy with take out. 「 O R D E R E D + V E R D I C T 」1. Karamiso Ramen Combo | $14.95: Both combos came with salad, 3pc California roll, and 2pc gyoza. Sides were good. Karamiso is a spicy miso soup base. Noodles were cooked perfectly. Perfect amount of spice. The chashu pieces were really soft and meaty. Overall 4/5. 2. Tonkatsu Ramen Combo | $14.95: The tonkatsu ramen on the other hand.. didn't look too promising. Im pretty sure pork bone broth is supposed to look milky but the broth in the ramen was clear. My friend had this and said it was aight. If you're a big ramen snob, don't get this. Overall, 3.5 stars. 11.26.2021 | Friday @12:40pm

We've called in a ramen order from here and picked it up a couple times, and been happy! Good ramen, quick turnaround, and friendly service. Our family of 3 got the following last night:1) Chicken ramen - very flavorful - we appreciated that the chicken was grilled2) Curry beef ramen - flavorful, but the meat was a bit too chewy3) Kids ramen - it's nice to have a smaller portion available for children The food is ready for pickup within 15 minutes of calling it in, which is very convenient. The lady who rung me up was very friendly. We look forward to returning!

Probably one of the worst restaurant ramen i ever had. I been to ramen house once and I mistakenly ordered from ramen house on door dash thinking it wasn't the ramen house on San Bruno Ave. when my sister and I tasted the ramen at the restaurant we both said this tastes like band aids. The broth tasted weird the restaurant itself had a strong Clorox/ammonia Oder that day. The ambience is weird it is either empty or has like 20 loud teenagers from the high school near by. The service was ok the ladies that work there are nice but it still no excuse to have bad ramen. When I ordered the ramen on door dash the broth tasted sweet for some reason like they poured sugar in it so weird. I will not be going back or door dash from Ramen house again. Plus the parking is bad.
