I understand the hype. This is a cash only institution which usually has lines. The line moves decently quickly tho. There are many options for pineapple bun and they are not the ones you'll get at the Chinese bakery! There are much much better.Highly recommend going for one of the "butter" pineapple buns. These don't actually taste like a slab of butter but rather custard. The buns are warm out of the open and in contrast to the cold custard slab it is an absolute treat. I don't recommend the sesame seed one as much tho.

Super popular spot in the outer sunset. We love ordering ahead online to save time from the long wait.Perfect for a yummy savory or sweet treat. They are well known for their pineapple tarts, custard tarts such as matcha, original. My favorite is the guava butter stuffed inside of a warm pineapple bun! Droll worthy! Prices are very fair and affordable.

This is my favorite place in Sunset for pineapple buns! They have a huge variety of pineapple buns including regular, mini, salted egg custard, custard stuffed, pineapple filling, and so many more...but the best is the butter series! My favorite is the guava butter! They also have pandan butter, salted egg butter, chocolate marshmallow butter, and Kerry gold butter. They are sooo good! The guava butter, salted egg custard, original, and pineapple filling are my favorites. The biggest downside about buying pineapple buns here is the extremely long wait. One time I waited almost an hour in line before it was my time to order. It is recommended to order online, however, even the pick up windows has a long line of customers waiting to pick up. This store is only to-go now. Pineapple King is the best store for delicious pineapple buns.

I'm not a huge fan of butter so I've never tried their original butter bolo baos, but I was so excited to see they had custard puffs! The deluxe box was $8 and sooooo good. It was fun to try all the different flavors like original, matcha, mango, and the butter! My favorites by far was the matcha and mango, which is what I was expecting based on my preferences. I was originally just going to get the set of 2 matcha puffs but this was a great way to try more flavors!

One of the best bakeries in Chinatown for a sweet treat. I personally like how there's a variety of sweet and savory options with a pairing of teas. This is a local spot that always has a long line with cash only. You can also order ahead of time online to pick up. Ambiance seemed very authentic and they answered all my questions. I got an egg tart, Portuguese egg tart, pineapple puff with cream, and original pineapple with butter.Perfect place to go after a nice meal.

Stopped by here after a jog in Golden Gate Park for the perfect treat! I tried the egg tart and pandan coconut butter, salted egg custard, and BBQ pork pineapple buns. All of these hit the spot, with the pineapple buns definitely being the highlight. I loved the flavor of the pandan butter, but probably would get this just once in a while for a treat, since the serving of butter is quite large. My favorite was probably the BBQ pork pineapple bun, the savory pork paired very well with the sweet pineapple bun.Note that the line and wait can take quite a while, and they take cash only. The line wraps outside the store which is located on a pretty busy street with other shops and restaurants nearby. Only other downside is that there is no seating.

You'll still catch me coming here as a major repeat customer because I'm just addicted! It's super easy to grab what you need--either at the window (cash only) or through their website to pay with a card and pick up at the window.I've been working my way down their list of buns, from sweet to savory, and I'm still a huge fan of their egg and ham bun. The steamed egg paired with that nice sauce hidden at the back of the bun brings me so much joy every single time. My second go-to is their BBQ pineapple bun because it's perfectly crunchy on the outside and savory-soft on the inside. Simple, delicious, and always consistent! This place is takeout-only, and while parking can be tricky due to the busy area and the bakery's popularity, the experience is worth it. Lines can get long, but watching the anticipation and excitement of other customers while waiting to order gives me the same energy. The workers inside are incredibly efficient, keeping everything running smoothly. They did make a rare mistake today, giving me a custard pineapple bun instead of the sesame bun I ordered--but no complaints because I love everything here! Pineapple King Bakery is a must-visit for anyone who loves buns. I can't get enough!

Delicious spot that offers a taste of home for many of the local population, though these buns are a tad pricey compared to the many other Chinese bakeries that offer pineapple buns, even with the flavored fillings and butters offered.I was telling a family friend that the last time I visited Hong Kong, I missed eating a Hong Kong bakery classic: pineapple bun with a slab of butter. They said there's a place called Pineapple King here, let's go!I was surprised to find a long line outside the order window. And wow, all the different flavors and selections made my mouth water. They carry a few merch items like caps, t shirts, and tote bags, which were all super cute. I got the deluxe variety box of mini pineapple buns (flavors: original, original with butter, mango filling, matcha filling) and the pandan coconut butter pineapple bun. The wait after ordering was about 10 min.The pandan coconut butter pineapple bun was so gratifying and comforting. Perfect wintertime treat. I ate it while it was fresh and the pineapple crust topping was crunchy and perfectly sweet. The pandan coconut butter got all over my face, but that's how you know it's good. The original pineapple bun was good as well, but I much preferred the flavored butter. Next time I've got my heart set on trying the guava butter and sesame pineapple buns.

We love Pineapple King here. If the line looks long I promise it goes by pretty quick. I always drop by when I'm in the area which isn't very often. Ambiance-wise it's just a window so you order and then when your order is ready you pick it up at the window, there's nowhere to eat it. But that's fine, Golden Gate Park is just a short walk away. I always get antsy though and eat my bread once I get it because it's 1029347 times better when it's warm.

Guava butter bun is sooo good. It is a warmed bun with cold flavorful fruity butter. Still my favorite I also got the salted egg butter bun which was also delicious and has been sold out multiple times I tried to get before. This has salty umami and rich flavorThe salted egg filling bun was ok, not the same dim sum style I hoped for and had less filling. This is slightly smaller and less expensive than the butter versions of the buns
