So glad Pinche Sushi is open again! Currently this location is only open Monday and Tuesday, but it is a must try (and go back to) place. We had a mix of their vegan offerings (Pass the Dutchie, Vegan Royale with Cheese, Peanut Miso Soup, Oshitashi) as well as some of the non-vegan options (49er roll, Lion King, Octopus Carpaccio). All of it was delicious, and while I wasn't initially sure about the vegan rolls, I was blown away by how tasty they were (creative flavor combos, texture, appearance). Portion sizes were also generous, and we left very stuffed. The fruit infused sake (we had the pear) was really crisp and refreshing. There are a decent number of sushi spots in the neighborhood, but this is now our #1 favorite by far!

Pinche was closed for so long I was starting to think it was some kind of a front (lol) so I was beyond thrilled to see them back open for the first time since early 2021! The servers are warm and friendly, everything we ate was a 10/10, the vibes were immaculate, and they're able to accommodate gluten allergies with sensitivity and ease. A must try, get in there and support their re-opening! We will be regulars, for sure!

** The following review reflects my takeout experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. **This shoebox sushi spot is easy to miss as I must've walked by it a dozen times before I realized a restaurant even existed in this space on South Van Ness. OK, I'm not the most observant pedestrian as I try to focus on not getting run over by the more aggressive drivers in the Mission. I finally stopped to look at the menu taped behind the yellow plexiglass and decided to give it a go (photo: https://bit.ly/3ox92Et). I discovered it has connections to Elephant Sushi, so I didn't think I had much to lose.I first went for the $10 Hamachi Kama, which struck me as a good deal, especially since it came with a serving of sushi rice. The yellowtail was charred right though I have to admit it was a tad overcooked for my taste (photo: https://bit.ly/2VLXd0w). Under the Sashimi Salad section was an item called Add Chef Tamir's Blessing for $10. I had no idea what that would be, a salad presumably, but it turned out to be an amuse bouche of sorts as it consisted of a heaping spoonful of fresh uni and another spoonful of hamachi topped with tobiko that was downright luxuriant (photo: https://bit.ly/36LWYJu).But surprisingly, what I liked the most was the $10 Spicy Hamachi Rritto which mixed the hamachi with togarashi pepper, lemon, masago, spicy mayo, avocado, and cucumber and wrapped it in a large nori roll (photo: https://bit.ly/3mNLVF8). It was like a higher end Sushirito creation with frankly fresher ingredients. They offer a Create Your Chirashi Bowl, which is something that appeals to my renaissance nature since it provides variety at my discretion. Kinda like an edible Build Your Bear and who doesn't want a custom teddy bear?FOOD - 4 stars...top-grade sashimi, kama needs a bit of workAMBIANCE - n/a...took it awaySERVICE - 4 stars...friendly server, thankful staffTOTAL - 4 stars...there's an Elephant in the roomRELATED - Looking for sushi? We ordered sushi for delivery tonight. I am in love with sushi and eat it multiple times per month. We have gone to many of the omakase-style restaurants in the city, as well as cheaper neighborhood spots. I saw this spot on Yelp with good reviews and decided to give it a try.The good: Prices were very reasonable. In addition, the portions are enormous. I ordered what I thought would be "a lot" for 2 people. When it arrived I realized it would have been "a lot" for 4 people. The sushi arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The bad: I was so excited to see uni included in the 8-piece nigiri set. I've had uni at 10-15 different restaurants and my reaction varies from liking it to love-love-loving it depending on the place. However, this uni was unbearable - literally the strongest, worst flavor. I managed to swallow half of it but had to spit the rest out. I'm so worried about what my stomach will do tomorrow. My husband agreed that it did not taste right.I made my husband throw all of the rolls away because the uni was clearly not good, and I don't take risks with bad seafood. I feel bad writing this review because this seems to be a newer spot and I'm sure COVID has made this a difficult year. But this piece of uni was so bad, I couldn't not leave a review. I hope the review can get posted quickly enough to prevent the restaurant from sending out any more of that batch.

My girlfriend and I came here after a hot yoga session and wow, the refreshing raw fish was exactly what I needed. Our overall experience was great with a minor hiccup, but I recommend giving this place a try. Upon arriving the waitress brought us over a complimentary couple bites of ponzu marinated butterfish. All together we ordered a one pair of hamachi nigiri, two garlic hamachi handrolls, a spicy tuna handroll, a sushi roll and I got the omakase for myself. The plates were brought out one by one slowly but surely, as they seemed to have one sushi chef working the kitchen. Quality food can take time though. The handrolls were definitely interesting, as the fish was marinated with other ingredients, seasonings and sauces. I prefer simply the fish but to each their own. I'm addition to the butter fish, the chef gave us a complimentary spicy tuna handroll so we enjoyed two of them. Complimentary is tough to find in San Francisco. It may be because the restaurant is new, or they were feeling generous, but either way we were happy. As for the minor hiccup, I was getting a bit frustrated as to how long it took to get my omakase only to find out the waitress forgot to put in the order. Nevertheless after waiting a bit longer, it was brought out and worth the wait. Even here, they gave me two extra bites of fatty tuna on top of the 8 piece omakase. Also, 8 piece omakase for $25 is well worth it. A part of the omakase was some delicious uni, toro, and for the first time I had monk fish liver in nigiri form. The nigiri here is also a good generous portion, fish is to texture and delicious. I will be back!

Found Pinche Sushi while scrollling through DoorDash and decided to give this place a try. Saw all the 5-star ratings on Yelp so the food should be bomb dot com right? SIKE.Ordered 4 "Four Item Bowls" and boy, they were HUGE! Very generous amount, so if you haven't been starving for days, I would suggest the Three Item BowlThe Goods:-BIG portions with LOTS of fish-Huge variety and selections on their menu-Came with half of an avocado at no additional charge (although it was uncut which was weird lol)The Bads:-Rice was too mushy and vinegary-Fish seemed like it was frozen and thawed (slightly mushy and had no fish taste)All in all, it's totally worth the price! But if you're looking for more quality fish, I would suggest looking somewhere else.

One of my favorite sushi meals I've had recently! This newly-opened restaurant is from the former husband-wife owners of Elephant Sushi. They're bringing the same quality, creativity, and generous cuts of fish to this restaurant too!We had the 8-pc nigiri omakase ($25), the "I got chives, buddy" ($20), the "mom's right" roll ($16), and the grilled kama collar ($5). They also served us a complimentary bite of torched walu (butterfish) with truffle oil and ponzu to start the meal.Everything was delicious, and it's one of the best values for quality and portion you can find in SF. They have a few tables outside with heat lamps, or you can get delivery through doordash.I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu!

Have you ever written a positive review with an almost panicky desperation, like, "please, people, read this and eat here so they stay in business and I can KEEP EATING THIS"?! That's how I feel right now. So damn fresh. Such good fish. I got the $25 omakase to-go, and oh my WORD. I've had to-go sushi a few times during the pandemic from places that charge $60+ per plate for very high-quality fish, and Pinche absolutely met that level of quality for a way more affordable price, and way larger portions. I cursed to myself under my breath out of surprise. Seriously, this place is blessed. I do agree with the person who said that the rice texture could be improved somewhat (a bit moister would be good), but it was still totally fine... Not worth docking a star over because the fish is 6 stars for the price. Perfect uni, smooth scallops, and a dollop of caviar on top of the toro -- divine! Also, I saw on their menu that they were showcasing an uni-on-flan dish (a dessert, I think)? UNI FLAN. Whaaaat. Must-try next time.

Incredible seafood, subpar rice (at least tonight was like that).I've had their Pinche Poke bowl as well. WAY too much rice for my liking but still delicious.I got the Omakase with Chef Tamir's blessing. It was fun to order it (+$10) and be surprised! The blessing is not much more filling compared to the rest of the box but it's fun.The portions are HUGE and there is an abundance of rice. You can see in the photo that even the rice portion is kinda thick, and the fish is SO big that it makes the rice look tiny. The part that was disappointing is that the rice was just not right. It felt old--a little bit dry. It was also long grain, which isn't super authentic. I'm not sure if this is like a stylistic choice or just an error.I might get a sashimi set next time. Absolutely killer seafood.
