Date: Tuesday, April 18th, 2023Time: around 3pmMeal: Lunch Takeaway*Shrimp Dumpling / Ha How*Chicken Feet / Feng ZhaoMy parents came over and brought a few items for a late lunch. Any time they drop by, they normally hit up a Chinese spot to grab takeout. This time, it was only a few items as the hubby and I ordered more food via DoorDash to add to our meal.If memory serves, the dumplings were good. The filling plump and the wrapper soft with a nice chew. Tho I kinda remember it being a tad on the thicker side. The chicken feet was a good serving in terms of size. And I recall it being nice and savory.Good spot for dim sum takeout. I kinda wished we tried more items.REVIEW #3605

The notecard said $3 and so I asked for a box of dim sum to go..it was $6.50 and then I ate it while pretending to document the Italian Heritage Parade in North Beach near Chinatown...It was good dim sum and I felt like I could satisfy my hunger on this wonderful San Francisco day..with the Italian parade and Fleet Week 2024! Patriotic and super festive!San Francisco post review #1999

I usually buy dim sums here now and then. Today, I came here to pick up a reserved order for my aunt to visit her late father-in-law for Ching Ming. Their shop is small, one table inside, so I don't know why it's called a restaurant when it's not. They have hot cooked food to order to go as well, displayed in the front. A line was formed, around 10-13 ppl, 10:20am. They were in a hurry to buy dim sum to visit their late loved ones as well. We ordered a lot.All fresh and all the fried crunchy pastries were still crispy when we arrived at the cemetery. We had- 2 kinds of savor pork puffs, MaLaGo, flat mochi red bean & custard filling, rice mochi, sesame balls, beef & shrimp chung fun. Their price is pretty fair. It's affordable. It won't break your wallet unlike the other dim sum shop on Pacific.

We did a egg tart tour of Chinatown buying tarts from 6 shops and taste tested them to find our favorite. The egg tarts from New Moon was the 2nd place choice of our 4 taste testers. This one was a bit messy and sort of crumbled apart. The custard was a good flavor.Follow me to find out what tarts were our favorite.

New Moon has more than just dim sum. They also have fried rice, chow mein by the pound and fried chicken. I like this restaurant because the food is decent and there isn't a long line like some other over-hyped dim sum restaurant on Stockton St. The Chinese donut, fried chicken and porridge tasted fine. Service was fast. Good job staff at New Moon.

Obviously there are plenty of down home dim sum places in SF Chinatown. By trial, error, and dumb luck, you'll eventually find places that make a certain type of dim sum that is consistently better than at other places. Now I haven't tried everything New Moon makes, but these 3 items are why I give this place a solid 5 stars:- Radish Cakes (not taro cakes)...nobody makes it better as far as I've experienced. - Shrimp and Chive dumplings. It's always awesome here. - Deep Fried Stuffed Tofu Squares. Simply epic, and I'm getting a Pavlovian response as I write about these. This five star rating has nothing to do with atmosphere (hole in the wall take it out) or with service (which is plenty friendly). The other dishes I've tried here range from average to solid, but the above 3 is what makes this place 5 stars in my book.

I was very hungry, so my eyes were bigger than mine stomach. I ordered a bunch of dim sum, it tasted ok to me. I'm not sure if the texture of the food was right or the taste was on point. It felt a bit off to me. However, the lady selling seem nice and friendly, so the 3 stars is for her, not the food.

My mom and I came here on Saturday afternoon to grab some dim sum to munch on. We ordered a chive dumplings, har gow, char siu bao and veggie meat bao. The dumplings had a decent amount of shrimp for the price and the skin was not too thin nor too thick. There were good; will definitely order again. I wasn't fond of the veggie meat bao, it had different ingredients than other places and tasted odd.

We were looking for a small snack so just swung in here. $3/3 shumai and for chive dumplings. I came in not expecting much since it was near end of day. The shumai was actually pretty delicious! The shumai were big and had lots of flavor. The chive dumplings were also very large and the rice wrapping was not too thick or thin - great consistency and flavor! Would definitely swing by here again!

Took a day trip to SF. Walked by this place and thought we'd get some food. It's been 15+ years since I've really eaten in Chinatown and I've only fond memories. This definitely left a bad taste for me.If I could give them 0 stars I would. Paid just under $19 for 4 items; small box of chicken feet, small box of braised beef w/ radish, 2 pieces of their rice rolls, and an order of their turnip cakes. Not cheap so I would expect some ok quality food.Chicken feet - Was not cooked enough. Skin was still tough and chewy unlike what you'd get at a traditional sit-down dimsum restaurant where it's fall off the bone tender. Braised beef w/ radish - The flavor was ok but the beef was way too tough and the radish wasn't prepared properly. I don't want a mouthful of radish fibers after biting into it. I'm sure everyone can understand.Rice rolls - The rice rolls aren't bad but they're not good either, just average. It's not exactly something you could get wrong. The rice rolls itself was pretty flavorless which is better than tasting bad. The sauce they gave us was just soy sauce. Regular soy sauce!!! Maybe I'm too picky but I expected the sauce to be what one would expect to get with rice rolls.Turnip cake - Probably the 1 item we ordered that was decent and I was willing to finish. I'm a sucker for turnip cake so when I saw it I had to get it. They used large pieces of turnip slivers in this so you know you're getting some with each bite. The biggest let down was that there wasn't much of a turnip flavor to it. It was also only gently fried which, to be fair, isn't a big issue; I put it in my air fryer at home to crisp it up to my liking. Will avoid this place at all cost the next time I'm in the area.
