3.5 STARSNew hole-in-the-wall Bánh Mì & Coffee Shop in the TL but not that kinda ( * ) ( * ) shop...The storefront awning says, "Mom Bamh Mi".I don't know if someone made a boo boo on the spelling and they were like, "Welp, that's our new name now!" because we ain't paying for a new awning!Formerly Can Tho, Mom Bamh Mi ($4-$4.50) sells six kinds of Bánh Mì and Cà phê đá, Vietnamese iced coffee ($3): https://bit.ly/2Dfw4cR. Cash only! There's only one lady making sandwiches and our order took 30+ minutes. She was apologetic though. It was dead but it seems a lot of people called in their orders. My co-worker and I ordered the Dac Biet [Combo] Bánh Mì ($4.50): https://bit.ly/2RIVwwE and Pork Belly Bánh Mì: https://bit.ly/2RLw5dZ ($4) to share. For the price, it was decent but not balanced. If you love carbs then you will enjoy the long toasted baguette with a nicely crispy exterior and fluffy interior (reminds me of Lee's baguettes). I hate dense bread that cuts the roof my mouth. Legit Bánh Mì aren't meant to be stuffed with meat but I found the fillings to be skimpy - the pork belly one was like 85%+ bread and the combo one was mainly cha lua (steamed pork roll). Plus, there wasn't enough pickled veggies, mayo, and maggi sauce so it was missing that salty, sweet, sour, and spicy layers of flavor (jalapeños were cut so thick and placed on top of the cilantro so they fell out). Regardless, it was decent and less than $5 so I can't expect too much. I'm sure the Bánh Mì will improve and it was grand opening kinks. Plus, I don't think they anticipated to be busy with phone orders so they may have been low on ingredients and were trying to stretch things out. Three tables for seating but one seems to be occupied for "friends".If you're in the hood and craving Bánh Mì, Mom Bamh Mi is a decent option.

Spoke with the lady making the banh mi today. Her new hours are Monday - Friday 11:00am - 7:00pm. Not open on Saturday or Sunday for family stuff. Sometimes will run out of sandwiches so always, always call ahead. Very, very sweet lady.

This place is really great and affordable being in the city. 4 dollars a sandwich! All homemade and made fresh to order. The lady was so nice and treated me as if I was her son. Definitely lives up to the name Mom Banh Mi.

Not even called this on the outside-- it just says, "Vietnamese Sandwich and Coffee" as far as I could tell. Super cheap, super great BBQ Pork hero.

$5 for a combination banh mi which is much better than $10 for one. No frills, hole in the wall. A few Vietnamese men playing cards at 11:30am.

Picked up a banh mi. Was willing to pay double the price fo most Vietnamese sandwiches because I read they were great. All in all it was mediocre. Bread was not the best roll and it's flavor was ok. Disappointed.
