i learned that this ice cream shop is apparently one of the oldest black-owned businesses in the fillmore. i am especially interested in food places when there's historic and cultural significance!! i'm happy to support this ice cream parlor despite not being a big ice cream person, and even though it's cash only, the man running the small stand is super sweet - inside the standing-room-only shop is a bunch of pictures from the community, thank you notes from kids and families of regular customers, and some newspaper clippings about relevant local events and developments. It was very interesting to look at for sure. This kind man also adds on a LOT of ice cream (even if you only want one scoop). One scoop in a regular cup is $4. There's a lot and variety of flavors, including filipino classics like macapuno (coconut), langka (jackfruit), and ube. definitely go if you're in the area and are craving something sweet !

The cutest little shop ever! As an ice cream fan, I've visited most places in Japantown and finally gave this place a try based on all the rave reviews. And it definitely didn't disappoint! Upon entering, we were greeted and took our time trying to decide what flavor to get. The decorations are all so adorable and show how the place has withstood the test of time. Once we decided on the green tea flavor, we got a huge scoop for a super low price! While I've only tried the ice cream here, honestly the other food seems like such good deals! Would definitely try to come here again for one of their sandwiches if I'm in the area (:

I went here long ago with a friend of mine after the cherry blossom festival and I forgot to review it somehow. I can't believe I forgot to review it because it's hands down the best ice cream shop in San Francisco! I've had it twice so far and it never disappoints. The owner is so kind and he gave me many samples. I loveeeee the Ube flavour. The portion you get is amazing for the price. I will always recommend this place to everyone who is in San Francisco. It is the best ice cream place I have ever tried! There are so many flavours to choose from and the owner is really the best! I always ask him to recommend which flavours he likes, and he gives me samples of them. He is so kind and genuine and I will always look forward to seeing him when I'm there. Please come here if you're in San Francisco!

Such a cute store! They had a great selection of ice creams as well as candy. I asked about a few of the flavors I was unfamiliar with and the owner atom was so sweet and gave me a scoop of the Peruvian fruit ice creams. It was really yummy! Will definitely be back soon to explore other flavors!!!!

The Yelp reviews DO NOT LIE. Everyone says "oh I love Japanese food, I can't wait to visit Little Tokyo." I am just okay with most food in Japantown. The main food that would drive me to Japantown is unironically this place, for their absolutely bomb hot dogs and ice cream. This place has been around forever and you can literally tell, there are newspaper clippings about stuff that took place when I wasn't even alive, which was a long time ago because I am decaying, decrepit being.First, the ice cream is good, extremely cheap, and well, it's ice cream, you're gonna get what you expect when you order it. They have an insane amount of flavors, so another plus.Second, the hot dogs are great. $3-4 for a hot dog is basically pricing you don't see anywhere anymore except for like Costco, where the hot dogs are a famous "loss leader" (ie, Costco legit loses money on those, they exist to largely lure people to Costco). All of them are big, come with tons of toppings, are intricately made, and are carefully wrapped. Honestly, these are the kind of hot dogs that are sold for like $11.99 at normie restaurants. Unbeatable at its price point and just good at any price point honestly. Third, I've heard good things about the sandwiches AND I WILL eat one the next time I am here. I have pledged this. It is destined.Anyways, the Yelp reviews do not lie, I absolutely totally recommend everyone try out my FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN JAPANTOWN.

Dropped by for dessert after dinner. We recently moved nearby and walked past it several times without popping in, but it caught our interest with their signs of unique international flavors. The place had very old-school ice cream parlor vibes, filled with candy, ice cream, and various signs. The owner, Tom, was very friendly and offered us any samples we wanted. They had a mix of various ice cream brands, but most of the unique ones were from Mitchell's.After some sampling, we settled on a lucuma milkshake. It turned out to be a pleasant surprise, with a nice maple caramel flavor that wasn't too overpowering. The milkshake was $6 included whipped cream. I think this was a decent price, but I think regular scoops or sundaes here are probably the best deal you'll find. Before careful though: it's cash only. Overall, a pretty nice spot, and we'll definitely swing by again when we're in the mood to explore one of their other unique flavors.

There's just something about those places with that old time feel. This certainly fits the bill.Almost weekly, I stop at the Chinese restaurant chain next door. Their street sign always tempts me to walk in and get something but my schedule is usually tight so it took until now to finally try it. There were two students ahead of me, waiting for their order to be prepared. After studying the freezer display, I ordered a double scoop of Mitchell's New York cherry ice cream (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=RCUP-yp7e_wdjvDOl0BD2g&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). The gentleman was very thorough in not only scooping a generous serving, but wrapping the cup with aluminum foil in keeping it cold as I drove to my next stop. Though Mitchell's shop is only ten minutes from my home, I haven't gone for a long time and there's usually a line of people and parking is difficult despite their private parking area in back. Back to this shop, I thought about the customers before me and I believe they got a sandwich which the gentleman meticulously packed and wrapped. In looking at the wall menu (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=edjz91GewNWCqAYrQkCgvw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) before leaving, I noticed several items that I would like to try. I actually got a pint of the cherry for a friend a week later. Will be back to try one of those hot dogs.

The man behind the counter makes this place what it is. It feels so special and he gives the feel of a grandpa who simply cares about each customer. When you order a sandwich, the owner puts every bit of thought and care into each one, picking out each vegetable that goes into your sandwich and carefully making sure it's to your liking. Got pastrami and Turkey sandwiches with potato salad and Mac salad. FYI there are limited options for meat and bread choices depending on what is available, but it doesn't mean you aren't getting quality. Everything is very fresh! Can't wait to come back again when we are in the area! You definitely can't beat the prices of $4 plus tax for a large sandwich w the works and two sides! Plus love being able to support a small business owner with a big heart! My only issue is that the hours on yelp are incorrect. We've come a couple of times at various times in the day only to find this place closed. According to the owner this place opens around 11am, but even at noon or later the place was not open. The phone number listed doesn't work either to verify if they are open.

First off I want to say that the man who owns the shop is very nice and we were excited to go support this small business. We went here to get a sandwich, which recent Yelp reviews as well as multiple signs both inside and outside the shop advertised as $3.95. We were very excited to try it and even told the man it was our first time there. We got a pastrami sandwich. When it was time to pay, he said "let's call it $9.50." I was super confused because of the signs but I was flustered as I wasn't expecting that and a line was building behind us, so I just gave him a $10 bill told him to keep the change. So I'm disappointed - hope it was genuine confusion (even though he charged the people in front of us correctly for their ice cream) but am really disappointed - hope it wasn't taking advantage of our first time there :(
