We came here because we heard the food was really good and also that they are very progressive in their food prep practices and source their food from farms that leave very little carbon footprint on thee arth. On the menu they say they have "really weird Chinese food", but I would say that it is eclectic and creative and not weird at all. Where else can you get something like kung pao pastrami? We only had two dishes, the salt fish fried rice and the sautéed basil eggplant. Our server was so helpful, she said the portions are very generous and already those two orders were a lot of food. She was correct, the portions were so big that we had plenty to take home. We loved both dishes. The salt fish was very subtle in the fried rice which was chock full with other ingredients. The sautéed eggplant was one of the best I have ever had. Both dishes were truly delicious! The service was great and the prices are reasonable. The food is definitely excellent!

Very ok. Very expensive for what you get. I like the ambiance inside and service was fast.Kung Pao Pastrami was pretty salty which I guess might be expected.

service GOOD. but i went in for the traditional American dish egg foo young. There was a disgusting brown sauce. and by far did not look like an omelette like a humongous chicken mcnugget. i was wondering why i paid immediatel after ordering.pictures to come

Great delivery food. Really unique macadamia kimchi. I enjoyed it a lot. Vegetarian mappou tofu was awesome, spicy and mushroomy. The mushroom chowmein was a staple and the Taiwanese basil eggplant was incredibly unique it was like plantains almost. Such a unique and delicious way to prepare them. I really appreciate the hearty serving sizes too.

Having lived around the corner from here for almost two years, I finally made it a point to step in here and try some of the food I've heard about for so long. And it was so worth it.My roommate's and I decided to do a house dinner here tonight - we arrived around 7:30 on a Monday night and the restaurant was not too busy (a few other parties were inside). We were promptly seated and asked for our order.For our meal , we shared an order of the Westlake Lamb dumplings, the chongqing chicken wings, the Taiwanese eggplant, and the Kung Pao pastrami.Food arrived fairly quickly and was fresh on arrival.The dumplings while small in portion, made up in flavor. The lamb was juicy and tender and mixed nicely with the crispy exterior of the dumpling wrapper. Also, the sauces were super unique and the yogurt sauce in particular was a nice touch.The wings were some of the best I've had in the city - not only were the perfectly crispy (Well done), but the spice blend on them was amazing. It wasn't overly spicy in the traditional sense but it definitely had the Sichuan peppercorn numbing spice going for it.The eggplant was fairly standard, but executed very well. And last but certainly not least, the Kung pao pastrami was great. Pastrami paired with Asian flavors was not something I would have thought of originally but damn does it work well.All in all, the three of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I'm moving to Oakland relatively soon so since I won't be as close soon, I'll definitely be making a stop or two before I move to try some additional menu items (notably the Sichuan Carbonara or the thrice cooked bacon and rice cakes) and to get those wings again.5/5

Recently me and my uncle went out for a bite. We were originally heading to Bissap Baobab where I just went to a stellar Elite Event. They didn't open until 5:30pm so instead we opted to go to Mission Chinese Food across the street.I knew about Mission Chinese for years and it was in my hood aka the Mission yet never went here until now. Danny Bowien aka chef/restauranteur is known for his creative self described weird Chinese cuisine and Danny even put out a Mission Chinese Vegan Cookbook which is awesome. Many vegan options on the menu that are vegan by default or can be customized vegan. Mission Chinese Food is both veg and non-veg. Danny also opened up a MCF in NYC where he is based and where I am from originally and so is my uncle. Coast to coast CA to NY. SF and NY are two great cities yet very different.Service was just fine and appreciate the recommendations from our waitress. Upon the suggestion of the waitress we went with two orders of Classic Chow Mein with mushrooms and Mongolian Longbeans done up with horseradish and Sichuan peppercorns. The food was quite alright. Ample portions. The longbeans were unique and flavorful with some heat aka spicy and the Chow Mein was good. We each enjoyed our Chow Mein and longbeans we shared family style. Feedback would have been nice to have the option to add tofu to the Chow Mein. Would have liked more veggies in the Chow Mein as here seems you order the veggies separate. Ambiance was spot on with dragon and Asian art/posters on the walls. Hip hop music played which was cool and unexpected. I liked the music. I have dined in places where the music took away from the meal yet here the music was cool so kudos and props to whoever was playing tunes here.Monday morning quarterback for the Sunday game would have shared a Chow Mein, Long Beans, and maybe ordered a tofu dish to get more variety.My uncle gives it three stars. He is a tough critic. I give it four stars. I can make a mean plant strong Chow Mein yet good to mix it up dining out in this lovely little city by the Bay with my uncle. I would return to scope out more of the menu.

We arrived around 5:40 on a Saturday night and were seated quickly. Gone are the long lines of the restaurant's glory days (the restaurant did not fill up as the evening went on), but the food has not declined one bit.We ordered the Sichuan kimchi as an appetizer. It was mala and sweet, with a juicy crunch from the raw cabbage. We then got the kung pao pastrami and Taiwanese eggplant. The kung pao pastrami is just as I remembered from having it many years ago in NYC: cubes of beef stir-fried with copious amounts of peanuts and celery (though they could have increased the quantity of home fries since there weren't many in our dish). The Taiwanese eggplant was a simple stir-fry flavored with basil and garlic, but it was so delectable and full of wok hei. Overall, the dishes are a little bit on the salty side, but the flavors are really good.

Event: Very unique place in the Mission. We've been meaning to try and walked by this place every time! The decorations kinda cool! I like the dragon on the ceiling.Service: great service! Got food out quick and fast!Food:See pictures below!y favorite the cod fried rice, Mongolian string beans and sichun carbonara - definitely a must get! Portions are good size! Had to bring some leftover homes! OVERALL: such a great place to go and catch up with friends!

Excellent modern take on Chinese food. Generally very good at noticing custom orders. Tend to take out or get delivery but when I've eaten in have been very satisfied by the efficient service.
